- Q: my son has an 2000 impala ls and he has these huge 26 inch rims so to his suprise like i told him he will have to get his car lifted and he dident want to listen so he spent all his money on these rims and dosent have anymoney for a lift like i told him so since i have a little bit of money on the side i thought for his birthday in a couple weeks i will take his car without him knowing and get a lift put on for him without him knowing but i need to know wat inch lift kit will i need? and how much will the lift kit cost? and how much will a shop cost me to get it lifted? and will it be cheeper if i buy the kit and they jus put it on?

- I wouldn't really recommend a lifted pickup unless you actually need the ground clearance. They get worse mileage because of increased wind resistance and the lower gearing caused by the larger tires, and tend to wear u-joints and other suspension parts quicker causing higher maintenance cost. You could easily drop your mileage to around 10mpg with a large lift making it very expensive as a daily driver. I have one and love it, but frequently use it off road, in snow or mud or in other situations where the lift is helpful. I personally of the three would buy the Mustang since it is probably a much better car than the Dodge, but if you need more room the Charger is more of a sedan.

- Terrible vehicles all around. The best would be to get a STOCK F-250/350 Powerstroke and treat it nicely. You can make money with those trucks doing odd jobs plus have all kinds of fun with it and if you keep it STOCK and don't chip it or lift it or mud it. you can get a decent return on resale. I've passed guys in lifted trucks mired in mud up to the window sills in my family car. simply because I went around the mud instead of through it. I've also schooled a few Vette's because in traffic, nothing is worse than a long, wide, and expensive car with too much power and not enough visibility for darting in and out of lanes.
