Q: Source 115V 20A breakerI have 12/2 wire and want to wire this:GFCI 15A receptacle -to- 15A receptacle -to- 15A receptacleI have basic wiring skills, just need reassurance. Thanks.
Do you have 12/2 with ground? Use three wire cable. Start at the last receptacle. Connect the black to the brass colored screw, white to the silver screw, bare to the green screw. At the middle receptacle, use a wire nut to connect both blacks to a 6 inch piece of black wire. Fasten that short wire to the brass colored screw of that receptacle. Connect the white wires together with a 6 inch piece of white wire and connect that to the silver screw. Do the same thing with a 6 inch bare wire to the ground of the middle receptacle. Secure those receptacles to the boxes and put the little sticker (GFCI protected) on the cover plates. On the GFCI receptacle you will find two terminals across from each other marked load. Connect the black and white wires going to the middle receptacle to those terminals, keeping them on the correct side. The terminals will be marked. Connect the white and black coming from the circuit breaker to the terminals marked line. Again keep the white and black on the correct side. Use the 6 inch piece of bare with the 2 bare wires to connect to the ground screw on the GFCI. Fasten the GFCI into the box and put the cover on. Now go to your panel. Put the white wire in an empty lug on the neutral buss with all the other white wires. Do the same with the bare wire to the ground buss with the other bare wires. Connect the black wire to your new circuit breaker with it turned off. Turn it on and test the GFCI by pressing the reset and then the test button to make it trip. Reset it. That's it. William, many local jurisdictions require pigtails in this case. I don't know where MMike is from, so I used the more restrictive code. And in my humble opinion, when you shove 4 stiff 12 ga wires on screws back into the box, you have double the chance a screw is going to turn and loosen, giving you a bad connection, not NEC code there, just me and over 45 years experience. Thanks Russ.
Q: So earlier my passenger low beam wouldn't turn on. i went and bought a circuit tester and found out a wire located here _-_ lt;=== (the bottom right plug on the socket) that wire wont light up. i bought a socket at the same time, but i dont know how to replace it. and even if i did.. i don't see how that would fix the wire. It's possible the wire is fine. but i cleaned the socket and all that and still nothing.any advice would be great. i really need to drive at night1994 GMC jimmy
The wire that leads to your socket may be worn or damaged. Find out which wire is not working. Use a meter that has a sharp probe, so you can stab the wire with the probe and see if it is putting out the electricity, up the wire from where you put the socket on. If the wire is not working, but off the part of the wire that is not working and splice in a new piece of wire and attach to the socket. Hopefully this will help you.
Q: I have a 1997 Dodge Neon 2DR and i did a electric door and mirror conversion but i cannt figure out the wiring... how would i go about figuring it out... can some explain or better show me how a basic lock and mirror controls are wired
The black wire goes to the black wire The red wire goes to the red wire The white wire goes to the white wire. Just be careful with the blue wire, it goes to the green wire.
Q: Ok, I am having trouble installing a new car radio in my 97' Honda Civic Lx. It's just a basic pioneer cd player.. I matched all the colored wires up and still nothing. My brother had told me something about + - for example do i hook the green stripped wire with a flat green wire? Vice versa.. Help please.. Also If you know of a web site with diagrams?
they make wiring harness adapters where all you do is match the colors and plug them in. yes u do have to match the wires with stripes (i.e. green with stripe to green with stripe) but if you have already done this you may have blown the channels if you have crossed the wrong wires
Q: I am trying to hook up my motorcycle turn signals but am having trouble with the wiring. Off of each signal stem comes a red wire (positve) and black wire (negative). Then coming form my bike I have a purple wire, blue wire, and green wire. I was messing around with the connections and was able to get all my signals to light up, but not in the fashion i need, like blinking correctly. Any suggestions? Do I need to split the wires? Does one wire go to the left signal and one to the right?
Does the flasher work? Are you using two filament bulbs? The green wire is a ground. The blue and purple sound like HD wiring, one is for blinkers, and one for running lights.
Q: I have this sony x plod headunit that i want to install.unfortunetely i do not know the wiring on it. i could find out as i go along which wires go to which speakers... but which two wires are the POWER wires?so i attached pictures but the basic layout is on the left side there are 4 sets of two wires (im assuming they pair up vertically)on the right side there is a long black wire with a metal hook on the end.
Please do not waste your time on that stereo. It has ridiculously poor sound reproduction. Sony makes some of THE WORST stereos on the market.
Q: Found some electrical wiring resonably priced on craigslist but it says -----8 gauge (AWG), 3 wire, direct burry electrical cableDOES THAT MEAN ITS 3/0 WIRE? Because I need 3/0 wire direct burriedI am looking to buy some extra 3/0 wire and found some on craigslist for a reasonable price....
8 guage wire will handle up to 40 amps. The 3/0 wire is used to run service entrance cable for a 200 amp service. If it is direct burial cable, it will have the letters UF on the sheathing.
Q: I just bought an aftermarket cd player for my Grand Cherokee and I would rather not have to cut and strip wires so I want to get an wiring harness adapter. My question is, can I just get any wiring harness adapter or do I need the direct connection adapter that is specifically made for Chrysler to Kenwood?
Doug is spot on, but missing one thing that im going to add in real quick. The wiring harness makes things simper because it is color coordinated with the aftermarket wire radios. Some chrystler/dodge/jeep come with an existing amplifier that must be bypassed in order to have sound come through the speakers. Lucky this bypass is easy as connecting a wire. (quick note, buy only metra install kits- wiring harness and dash kit) On the wiring harness there will be a blue wire (not to get confused with the blue wire from the radio) coming off of it. This needs to be hooked up with the red wires, or the blue wire from the radio's wiring harness which is the amp remote wire. This bypasses the amp.
Q: Thermostat has two red wires two black wires. The baseboard has one red one black wire.
I'm not sure I understand how you're trying to hook this up. It sounds like you've got two pairs of black and white wires? Were these installed with the intention of supporting a 220 volt device? You really should be seeing a black and a red wire, and measuring 220 volts between them. Try measuring between the two black wires - you'll either get 220 volts, or nothing (if they're on the same leg). What connections are available at the heater, and how are they labeled?
Q: I have a Trane Heat pump AC/Heat. There are several wires and Im a little stumped? There is a Tan wire*which the book does not show) and a black wire that is labled X1 on the old one but is not in the new ones book? I have also been told NOT TO hook blue wire up to the B port?? But if not, not sure where to put it?
The tan wire isn't used on digital stats you should tape it up. The black wire which should actually be X2 should be emergency heat. And you are correct do not hook up the blue wire to B, you will blow the low voltage fuse or transformer. If the Hunter stat has a C or 24 volt common terminal you can hook the blue wire up there and you won't go through as many batteries. All the rest of the wires should hook up color for letter. GL.
