- Q: I spilt vegetable oil on my carpet and I can't get it out.
- Okay, what you want to do is spray the area around the spill with water, getting the carpet wet all around the oil. Then spray the spill itself with some mineral spirits. Since oil and water don't mix, when you saturate the spill with solvent, it won't spread. Then use clean white rags or paper towels to pick up the oil. It will have dissolved in the solvent and will be soaked up in the rags. After this is all done, you'll want to shampoo the area, and probabaly the whole carpet. Good luck.

- Depends on the type of carpet you have but there are two tricks that generally work. The 1st way is to set an ice cube(s) on the indent. Carefully work up the pile as the cube melts, A hair pick works well for doing this. The other trick ( if you have a heat set carpet fiber) is to CAREFULLY inject steam into the dent. Use an iron and do steam on the dent as you work at the fibers with a hair pick. You can also put a damp hand towel ( very warm water) on the dent along with a steam injected into the dent. Extreme care must be used doing it this way as not to melt the carpet fibers. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

- Go online with Frontgate or Grandinroad for indoor/outdoor rugs. They are available in all styles from contemporary to traditional, are soft to the touch and just have to be hosed down to clean. They are inexpensive as well. Home Decorators just came out with a similar line but I can't speak to their softness as I have only ordered from Frontgate and Grandinroad. I saw some of these rugs at Home Depot but they weren't soft and they looked cheap. So not all are equal.

- Hey, U.P., what's up? Sometimes we just have to be proud of the fact that even three and four year olds can use computers these days. Other times, we need to figure out how to invent a childproof locking keyboard. I mean we keep 'em out of aspirin bottles and there are trigger locks for guns. - A okorder / The higher the denier the tougher the rug. 600 denier will tear easier and be less water proof then a 1200 plus denier rug. I have the last one shown (Defender) is a great rug for really cold frosty winters. Tough denier and no neck rug attached, which I prefer for my horses that are not in much work. In spring I then switch it for a lighter rug, which they usually wear for a month or so before I leave it off completely. But please remember, even if you switch to a lighter rug, it will still need to come off each morning if it is warm and during their heavy moulting in the first month of spring.
- Q: Which is better to clean carpets - steam cleaning or chem dry?
- Defiantly steam clean them. If you are talking about the spray foam like you can get in a can and do it your self. You will accomplish cleaning them some. But what you actually end up doing is to make the carpet look better, but the foam is pressed into your carpet and left to dry (embedded) in your carpet. Not only does it leave residue in the carpet, it also caused dirt ,spills. etc to build up on your carpet quicker than it did before.
- Q: How often do you vacuum your rugs? I do it about once a week and occasionally put down freshner on the carpet and then vacuum it a few minutes later
- Every day......you would be surprised at what is in your carpet by the end of the day. Little particles and don't forget the little carpet mites that everyone gets.
