- Rent a rug Dr. and a bottle of steam cleaner solution. Put some(1/4 cup) Dawn Dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle with water and pretreat all the heavily soiled areas first. You can even try isopropyl alcohol on tougher stains. Use steam cleaner solution and the hottest water and clean. You might have to do it twice. Do it one more time with 2 cups white vinegar and hot water. Lift up on the handle as you move backwards to get the best pickup possible. You will be surprised at what comes out of the carpet! The vinegar will remove any soap residue which actually attracts more dirt.

- Q: I am trying to decorate my house and I'm really stuck on what color of area rug to get for my living room!!!My walls are beige with white trim. Hardwood wood floors in the living room and bedrooms. Black granite floors in the halls, kitchen, breakfast area, and bathrooms. - Q: My new living arrangement will be in the basement of a house my friends and I are renting. The house is kind of older, so it's going to be kind of tricky finding good newer style furniture that won't clash with the rooms. The basement has gray carpet (blah) with wooden walls that have sort of a mix of green and light brown color.
- I love the idea with the navy and the orange! Very cute, modern, and classy. The walls might not match, but its worth a try. I think it will work. This may seem a little crazy, but you could get like the paint swatches at Lowe's or Home Depot of navy, orange, grey, or whatever colors you want and hold them up to the walls to see if they clash. It's worth a try.
- Q: So I have this cheap $20 rug from walmart thats teal. I did away with it for a while but now that I want my room redone, I want a black rug to go in front of a futon. How would I go about dyeing this rug instead of buying a new one and leaving this one to collect dust? It has a plastic wired bottom to hold the rug together and to act slip resistant. Would dyeing it affect it?
- Whether dyeing would work depends on what fibre it's made of. If it's wool or cotton, it would dye quite well with ordinary dyes, though it might present a few difficulties since dyes usually call for being heated, and a lot of rinsing after. If it's a synthetic fibre, which it very likely is, it might not dye at all because synthetics don't absorb dye very well, if at all. If they do, they usually require processes that would be very difficult to achieve with a rug, such as heating the dye bath with the item in it. All in all, it's probably not worth even trying. Find a cheap black rug to buy.
