Q: I spilled Coca-cola on my area rug. The rug is relatively inexpensive and I've never spilled liquid on it. I decided it would be a brilliant idea to sop up as much liquid as I could with a towel and paper towels and then pour baking soda all over it, which I then proceeded to rub in. (I know, idiotic). The stain is now hard and crusty and I cant seem to vacuum it out. Any advice?
Not all is lost. Break up the crusties as much as possible and vacuum, probably just use the hose, not the various heads. Keep doing this until you'd removed as much as possible. If you have a clothes brush, use that to help as you vacuum. When you've done as much as you can, time to switch methods: first put a towel, shower curtain or whatever under your throw rug as you don't want to ruin the floor under neath.......if vinyl.......relax. Anyway. Make a solution of OxyClean.....I'd say a scoop to a quart of warm water.....mix well and then apply it to the stain.........if your carpet doesn't have latex on the back and you can move it to the tub.....pour the Oxyclean over the stain. Otherwise pour a bit on.......1/4 cup or so, rub with your fingers and immediately begin blotting it out with a clean towel......white or light colored just in case you get a color run from the towel. Repeat applying and blotting it up. That should do it. I doubt you'll need the whole quart. OH yes, finish with a clear water rinse and plenty of blotting. Check the towel or whatever underneath and replace it if wet. Let the rug air dry. No hair dryers as heat will set stains. Of course we hope like anything the OxyClean doesn't remove the color from your rug.....if you have bright colors.....use a weaker solution. OxyClean ihydrogenen peroxide which will bleach colors if in a very concentrated formula which it in the in the original mixture I mentioned.
Q: Best auto carpet cleaner
Remove the seats Remove the carpet Reinstall the driver's seat Toss the carpet into the trunk and drive it to a coin-operated car wash Pressure wash the daylights out of it Leave it in the sun to dry thoroughly Now is a good time to do some serious cleaning in the car, with all the seats out of the way Reinstall dry carpet Enjoy
Q: burgandy nail varnish on a cream carpet, help??
Go to home Depot. They sell pure Acetone (the stuff nail polish remover comes from.) Pour some on a rag and place the rag on top of the stain to soak for about 20 minutes or so, then come back and scrub, it may not get it all on the first try, make sure to use an absorbent cloth to get it up or else your carpet will be saturated. Hope it helps.
Q: it is very dusty and old just want to remove the dust and try to being back the colors, considering hanging and vacuuming or blowing it with air, anyone know a better or more appropreiate way please? no stains, just dull and dusty!
hi i am iranian we iranian usually don't wash rugs we beat it it remove dust then we wash it with some soft degergents and some hot water then we dry it with some materials washing carpet makes it pale and makes the strings to become weak then it decays and tears
Q: What is sole and composit bottom of the carpet? What's the difference?
There is no need to be composit bottom. If it is laid in front of the bed or marble. The composit bottom carpet is mainly used for the floor tile: Composit bottom means that add a layer of anti-skid plastic cloth to the back bottom of chenille. If laid in the wooden floor, it not only has a non slip effect, but also can make the product more three-dimensional. Especially in the bathroom.
Q: what is everyones opinion on carpet vs carpet tiles. price ability to keep clean etc. thanks
I have both commercial quality carpet tiles and also carpet in our house. I am very handy so installed the carpet tiles myself. The commercial qaulity have a heavy backing that makes the tiles stay down without glueing. We had baseboards made from the tiles also....4 high and I glued them around the room. Looks fabulous. But you can use wood baseboards also. Carpet tiles are easy to install, just follow the instructions in the box. If you need to you can make a template out of paper to make a pattern. Then lay the paper pattern upside down on the backside of the tile to cut the tile following the pattern lines. But remember you have to lay it one the tile upside down to cut the pattern out of the tile correctly. Think about this carefully to do it right. We had our carpet tiles for 19 years in a high traffice area...in the hallway coming into our house from the garage. We're always in and out of thru the garage. They still look like new 19 years later...and we do have some extra pieces to replace if we ruined any but we haven't. I got these commercial grade for less than 1/2 price since they were left over from a big commercial job. I also put the carpet tiles in the basement in my husbands office. Have lasted 15 years and still look like new. Both are darker colors so dirt doesn't show. Have never had to clean or wash them....I just vacuum them often. But if I needed to wash or clean them I'd take them outside and brush some light soapy water on them then hose them down and stand them up to dry out well before putting them back. If you're going to use carpet tiles get commercial quality though...they are much heavier and wear better. I love them. We also have carpeting in our living room and dining room and bedrooms. Those I need professionally cleaned periodically. And of course if it's wall to wall carpet it needs to be installed by the company you're buying the carpet from...you can't do it youself. Good luck with your decision.
Q: the corners of my rug keep bending and it alllways gets messed up and wrinkledin this middle. why does it do thatt=[
Hi, okorder / ... Hope this helps.
Q: No, I dont mean dancing! I have hardwood floors in my bedroom. I want to buy carpet, but the room is an odd shape. Is it easy to cut myself, and would I only need special scissors? Or should I pay to have someone do it for me?
The problem will be the edges, unless you are talking about carpeting the whole room. If it is just a rug, cut it carefully, and then bring it to a specialty shop to have the edges sewn. Any high quality rug store should be able to direct you there.
Q: We just bought a house and the master bedroom has wool carpet in it and I just wanted to know how to clean it!!
Wool carpet looks and feels awesome, but is tougher to maintain. I would not use a general carpet shampoo on it since they tend to be rough on non-synthetic fibers over time. For spot treating (spills, etc): Use a white cloth dampened with barely warm water and a few drops of clear dish washing liquid. White cloth and clear liquid just to make sure there's no color/chemical transfer. Blot it the way you'd get at any spill and then a dry cloth to get all that water up. For a deep clean: You'll be better off getting a professional in once a year or whenever the mess is too big to clean yourself.
Q: How to make a throw rug?
Area rugs do much more than simply cover your floors. They offer both comfort and style, and with the right positioning, can alter the entire appearance of a room. Standard rectangular rugs provide both utility and elegance while circular and octagonal rugs add a unique look. There are a wide range of sizes and styles available in a variety of colors and patterns, so you're sure to find one perfectly suited to any room or living space in your home. Area rugs can be constructed from a number of different materials as well, giving you even more choices. Selecting the perfect area rug can be simple with the following questions: How large should your area rug be? What style is best suited to the room? What colors and patterns will help you achieve desired effects? What purpose will the area rug serve? What type of fiber is best? Find answers to them according to your room. Hope that helps!
