Q: We have a private well with a 40 year old water pump that is rusting away, and sounds like a truck. It's a double jet well pump sitting on a tank, with a second tank to one side that it's also connected to (with a thick pipe). I don't quite understand why there are two tanks (there's a third which is obviously the hot water). I'm guessing one of these is to hold water, and the other to provide air pressure? In any case, the pump runs OK, it doesn't leak, and provides plenty of pressure. It is just unbelievably loud. I've been told that replacing the bearings might take care of this problem, but seeing how the tank the pump rests upon (with a thin tube connecting it to the pump) is rotting away, and the system is older than I am, should I just replace the whole thing?: It sounds like you have two pressure tanks. I am going to guess that the one under your pump probably went out and instead of taking it out and re-plumbing everything they just spliced in a new tank. You can get a re-build kit for most pumps but it sound like your pump is pretty old and probably being held together with faith and rust and taking it apart might cause more problems. What I would do is price out what the re-build cost and what labor might be against what a new system might be. If you decide to go with a new system I would suggest looking into getting a submersible pump, using the same tank but making sure it is in a good location and plumbed with a union. when your pressure tank finally goes out it is going to weigh a ton and trying to move it around plumbing can be difficult. good luck and happy holidays.

Q: Im changing the water pump on my explorer. As i was unscrewing the bolts one of the heads to the bolt wore out and now its really hard to take out and its giving me a headache. any ideas of what i should do to take it out?: If there's tail of the screw still out ,use an alligator clamp wrench . clamp it as hard as you can ,then spray some WD-40 waite 5 minutes and then try to open it . If it brake from inside the trade ,there's no way except drill small size hole than the screw, in the screw and then use left turn opener wrench (buy it from auto zone or home depot) direction of the use it's on the Package .It is a left turn traded screw with square end . After you get ride of that screw for re installation use high temperature grease and apply to the tread ,make sure pump cap it's not deform ,if is deform buy new and apply grease to the washer gasket before install .

Q: I tried using my water line with a pressure tank and pressure switch but without a pressure tank I observed that when he pressure reaches 30 psi the motor pump switches off automatically and when we open the faucets to use water the pressure switch turns on again the motor pump.: Never use a water well pump system without a pressure tank. The tank performs several functions - when it is in good operating condition. You want a specific amount of run time and off time on the submersible pump that will bring your water system and tank to a set pressure range. And as said, it is a buffer to eliminate surging. Plus permit a proper cycle time. Most standard water systems are set in a 20 pound differential. It is frequently set to pump at 30 PSI and shut off at 50 PSI or pump at 40 PSI and off at 60 PSI. 30 PSI is quite a low setting on the pressure switch Defective pressure tanks are very common and when they go bad, the risk of damage to the pump is at hand. There are very specific criteria to follow for a water well system. Too many variables to list here It would be best to have a reputable water well service person assist you. Pulling a defective submersible pump is not fun or inexpensive. Make a call - you will be glad you did in the long term.

Q: We have a 3-story (including ground floor) house. Q: Can someone please post a picture of how to find a Water Pump on a 1992 Dodge Spirit with a K2.5L Engine, it would be much appreciated. :): The cooling system on your engine circulates water from the engine into the bottom of the radiator and then from the top of the radiator back to the engine. At the bottom of the radiator will be a black water hose. Follow it back to the engine. That's the water pump.

Q: Is this a symptom of a bigger problem or do I just need to replace the water pump?: Time for a new pump That leak comes from what is refured to as a weep hole. Get it fixed ASAP as if it over heats it can and will crack a head if it gets to hot.

They use them to vacuum airconditioner systems and check for leaks in vacuum operated controls.
