- Q: I have some basic speakers in my car, and I've heard you can get separate subwoofers and tweeters. I really just want a single set of speakers with decent bass. I don't want one of those giant woofers people put in their trunk.Is there a site explaining the different speaker set ups you can get? - Any computer speaker will work, i personally like the bose or kplisch edit Normal house speakers are a bad idea as most are not magnetically shielded and may cause issues with laptop
- Q: do in ceiling speakers work well for a rear surround channel
- Yes and no. I have heard in ceiling speakers used for rear channel in several displays and homes. It sounds fine until you have some effect that is clearly supposed to be coming from ground level. There is a scene in Gladiator in which an army on horseback comes from the rear channel to the front. With in ceiling rears it sounds like the horses are coming down out of the sky. That said, some people's rooms are such that only in ceiling speakers are really practical for their surround sound set up. In such a case I would not hesitate to go with the in ceiling speakers.
- Q: I recently bought an external speaker from CD-R King. Once plugged in my Asus K42F, a weird sound was produced by my Altec Lansing built-in speaker. After which, Altec Lansing's Left speaker isn't working anymore, while the Right speaker have worst quality ever. I need help with this. I plugged in a headset, quality's good. When I unplugged it, the built-in speaker sounds like trash. Help everyone.
- It is possible that the external speaker connector is bad, or the solder connections on it were bad, and plugging things into it are making the connections to the internal speakers worse. When you plug something into that jack, while connection is made to the external speakers or headphones, it also disconnects the internal speakers. If when you remove the plug, the contacts are not made solid to the internal speakers again, you could have a result like you are describing. If you put in your headphone plug, and move it around a bit, take it in and out a few times, does the other speaker ever cut back in for a few seconds or intermittently, and does the bad sound in the other speaker consist of the audio getting cut in and out or a scratchy sound? If so, could be that the external speaker/headphone jack is bad. One thing for certain, there is no way that the external speakers CAUSED damage to your notebook or it's internal speakers. YOU may have caused damage by putting too much pressure on the jack while plugging the speakers in, or when removing them. Or the jack could have been defective from the factory, or had a cold solder joint. Without being there to look at it myself, I can only give these guesses.

- If your computer speakers have a regular input like any headphones do, you're fine. I use computer speakers as my iPod speakers, and my iPod works fine. I only have the iPod Classic, but friends have used their Touches with my speakers, and nothing went wrong at all. If your speakers are the regular kind with the same input as headphones, then you're fine.
- Q: i have an orange dual terror amp head, with optional outputs of 16, 8, 8 ohm cabs. im wanting to run it with my rogue 212 amp, but using the rogue just as cab, it has a place to unplug the speakers. (i hope thatakes sense). i have the stock speaker which was blown when i got it in, along with a 8 ohm bass speaker. the cab is wired in series, so my first question, is does the blown speaker effect the output such. my second.question is im wanting to put in new speakers, since its wired in series, i'll want 2 8ohm to run in 16 ohm channel. correct?thanks for any help. im just wanting to cross my t's dot the i's, before i buy new speakers.thanks again.
- Do not connect the blown speaker to your amp. Blown speakers have unpredictable impedance (ohms) and there is a possibility it may damage your amp. Connect only the good speaker to the amp. Connect the output of the head to that speaker by itself. You may have to make a dedicated speaker cable to do this. It would have a 1/4 inch connector on one end and speaker terminals on the other. Make sure the wire from the rogue amp are not connected to the speaker. You really should get a proper amp cab for your head as soon as possible.

- Q: I have a relatively small speaker that has a treble and a bass, the treble speaker works but the bass does not is there a way for me to fix this? The bass speaker is not ripped and everything seems like it should work but does not. It speaker has a standard speaker wire thats red and black that fits in the stereo that i have. I have verified that the stereo is not the problem by switching the wires between the 6 different connections the stereo has.
- What sometimes happens to a speaker is the little braided wire from the terminal to the voice coil fractures. That fracture might be corrected with a small amount of solder applied just where it's broken to rejoin it. If the actual voice coil itself is burned out, the speaker is toast. Very expensive and high quality speakers can be re-coned and get a new voice coil and that is pretty expensive and specialized and not worth doing to a book shelf speaker.
