Q: Does it matter if I replace 8 ohm speakers with 4 ohm ones?: Yes. If you are only replacing the speakers. Since the amp powering the speakers will output at 8ohms and the new speakers will be 4ohms, your ohm load will be high to low. This will cause the amp to work twice as hard and it will overheat, if not fail.

Q: Hi, currently I have some klipsch promedia 2.1 pc speakers on my computer. And these are what I use to fill my whole room with sound. I'm 16 so I just need to worry about my room. So on my desk are my computer speakers but behind my desk is a dresser. Im thinking about buying the Klipsch kb 15 bookshelf speakers for the top of the dresser. You can avoid the need for a sub by using speakers with larger woofers. Generally, 8 will do in normal rooms, and 6 is probably enough for small rooms.

If you are replacing 6 ohm speakers with 8, that is a minuscule difference, and actually will make the receiver work easier. Speaker impedances are NOT consistent; they vary (with frequency) from less than 1/2 the rating to 3 times the rating. That is why they say Nominal impedance. You may need to correct levels, which your receiver may or may not have the ability to do. Check to see if there is a level set-up in the menu of the receiver. Other than that, you will be fine. You shouldn't go lower in ohms (say, a 4 ohm set) than the speakers supplied with the unit, although it may or may not bother the receiver because of that pesky variable impedance that all speakers have Good luck!

Q: all the speakers in my Chevy Tahoe went out the only speaker that plays is the driver side tweeter and door speaker the rest just wont play anymore I just bought a new radio and its still doing the same thing what can be the problem I wont have to rewire the whole thing will I: It could be a number of things, you could have blown them to the point that they don't work, but it really sounds like a wiring issue. You might have some wires disconnected at a certain point along the line. I think so investigation into the issue as far as tearing the car apart is necessary b/c it's hard to diagnose with just the aforementioned info. Go to start-control panel and double click on Sounds and Audio Devices Then check if the volume is on. Or double click on the Volume control icon and make sure no output is muted. Speakers have no drivers, but your audio card needs one. make sure your audio card's driver is installed properly.

Please, if possible, just a simple way to determine if the speakers are compatible with receivers.: Pretty much any standard 4 to 8 ohm speaker will work with any home theater receiver. It is a good idea to test the speakers there at the store if you can. Maybe bring along a short piece of speaker wire already stripped for testing each speaker and each speaker output on the receiver. Blown speakers will not work at all or they may just sound raspy. Don't worry about the watts too much. As long as it is a name brand speaker, it will work fine as long as you are not blasting the receiver at full volume.

The main issue is that the factory installed (usually) speakers needing far less power to drive them and as such you will need to turn it up to reach a similar sound level. be advised you CAN exceed the potential of the stock radio and get horrible sound as the Total harmonic distortion at that power level from the stock radio will cause poor sound. just don't go nuts on a high end set of pioneer speakers and you'll be happy.
