Q: I just read an article about a man who was electrocuted by a live overhead wire while trimming a tree. Horrible. My question is I see squirrels running on all the overhead wires. How do they not get electrocuted?
Electrocution happens when electricity finds a way to ground. Squirrels are not grounded so they don't get shocked. Ever watch the Discovery channel? They've shown how the power company works on high voltage lines without shutting the power off. A helicopter hovers next to the power line while a technician reaches out to the power line with a probe. Once contacted the helicopter and the technician are at the same potential voltage so nobody gets shocked. However, during approach they are NOT at the same potential. That's the reason for making contact with he wire with a probe first. So that the technician doesn't take a big hit when he first touches the live wire. So squirrels, birds, rats - anything that can land on the wires doesn't get electrocuted. But if an animal touches the wire AND ground (or another wire), it's all over in a blinding flash. Hope this helps. 'av'a g'day mate. '')
Q: let me start off with I am not an electrician I just do basic stuff for side work I came in the project at the end. The lady wanted me to wire in 6 receptacles, a light switch and light fixture all on one circuit. everything is good except for the receptacle at the start of the circuit it has the lead/ hot coming in the power to the other receptacles going out and the power to the light going out (3 groups, 9 wires total). normally I would have used a junction box but I didn't pull the wire. How can I wire this. Would a 15 amp receptacle work?
A 15 Amp receptacle will work, of course, but the receptacle box is most likely already overfilled. So in order to keep the wire count down, your best way to go is to buy a receptacle that uses screw down connector tabs. (NOT the kind that you have to put the wire under the screw, but the kind that you insert the wire into the back and then turn the screw down to clamp onto it!) The receptacle is a little more money but it would be worth the expense to make this hook up work. Hot wire (Black): Connect all three black wires to the back of the receptacle on the brass colored screws. Common wire (White): Connect all three white wires to the back of the receptacle on the silver colored screw. Ground: make a short pigtail of bare copper wire (about 6 or 7 inches long). Then connect the pigtail to the other 3 bare copper ground wires using a wire nut. Then connect the other end of the pigtail to the grounding connection of the receptacle. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF WHEN YOU DO ALL OF THIS SO THAT YOU CAN LIVE TO TELL THE TALE! :-)
Q: What exactly is 6 AWG stranded grounding wire usually used for?
To connect parts of the electrical system that you want to stay very near Earth potential to the actual Earth. They carry lightning strike current to the Earth if the electrical system is struck. Ground wires and grounding electrodes metal stakes driven into the Earth they connect to) keep the exposed metal parts of appliances safely close to Earth potential when there is an insulation failure inside the appliance that connects those parts to the the hot side of the circuit. The ground path resistance has to be low to soak up this fault current while keeping the appliance case voltage below about 50 volts (above which you might get a serious shock) until a protective device (fuse, circuit breaker or ground fault breaker) opens the hot line. So its main purposes are lightning protection and shock prevention. -- Regards, John Popelish
Q: im gettin a amp and sub for my car and was wondering how would i make a wiring kit for it ... i have basic knolage of wires but thats about it thanks in advance
the wiring kit is usually: - low gauge cable of certain length (x2) - rca cable of a certain length (x1) - small power connect cable (x1) seeing as these things are already pretty much in their simplest form, I don't see the practicality of making your own wiring kit. just buy one.
Q: Broken dryer, 4 bladed wire, Old dryer available to me, has a 3 wire cord, can I swap the cords?
the guidelines basically recently replaced interior the previous couple of years requiring new properties to be geared up with the 4 prong recepticals rather than the three prong recepticals for 220 V merchants. in the experience that your dryer is fantastically new, interior the final 4 years or so... the twine that is hooked as much because it now could have the skill to be interchanged with a 4 prong twine by basically buyingh a 4 prong twine and screwing the eylets to the surprising connections at the back of your dryer. in the experience that your twine won't be able to be switched out, then i'd pass backward and replace the 4 prong container with a three prong container. i'd do it this sort so as that one and all your electric connections are interior a receptical, rather of having 220 Volt wires basically twine nuted at the same time.ok good success.
Q: How can it be possible to create a high voltage and have a small gauge wire? Example: 3gj or 3000mw in a small wire (just an example)
Wire six does not care about voltage, it cares about current. Every wire has a speific Fusing current when it melts or in a coil it burns up the insulation and shorts out.
Q: Im wondering if this 24 awg wire is good for guitar wiring. Doesn't look like something that i usually would see people use when wiring, since there is lots of different wires and colour coding wrapped up inside it.
Given okorder / I hope this will help with your decision. Good luck!
Q: I'm just wondering would i be able to connect a split 8 gauge wire with wire nuts like i'll explain:Use two wire nuts instead of one and divide the copper wire on both ends and wire nut both sides together with 2 nuts. The whole apparatus would look kinda like this:----lt;gt;---- with the wire nuts connecting the two arrow thingsThanks anyone
Even though you had been wise to make use of the noalox, or antioxidant, i might ratehr endorse that you get the suitable gauge of wire in copper and rewire the entire circuit. The intent that I say that's that your oven is a excessive resistance circuit and aluminum does no longer like high resistance. With excessive resistance on aluminum, the aluminum wire will start running or moving under the strain and can eventually burn out the connection. In the event you have got to leave it aluminum, don't use a wire nut, but get a split nut from an electrical provide, use teh same goop on it, then get two wrenches for the best way that you just ought to screw the break up bolt to the nut, tighten the item down as tight as humanly viable, the wrap it with a specified tape that the electrical give may also have. It's not the commonplace electrical tape, but a stretchable tape and also you wrap it tight at the least 3 or a bit of extra inches on all sides of the nut. This may insulate the connection in order that it are not able to be shorted out in any respect. Mine had the same aluminum connection and when I changed the stove, which was difficult wired to the stove, I simply replaced the entire wire. Mainly the field is just not too some distance away fromthe stove due to the fact it wants to be as just about it to decrease resistance. To scan what you have got performed, that you would be able to take a low-cost volt meter from Radio shack, set it on the correct settings for measuring voltage on 220, and if the needle goes to 220 + or - a bit, you're nice in the meanwhile.
Q: If you were to hot wire your car and didn't have the manual to consult the color code, what would be some ways to identify which wires are {power} and {starter}? If you were to cut all wire pairs and attempt different combinations, would that result in imminent failure? (knowing the different pairs correspond to different key positions)
Ok, so far you people have all proved to be completely useless and immature idiots. You people who comment just to comment have to realize that your opinion, nor your life, matters in this world and should express it by publicly burying yourself alive or jumping off a tall building or something simply for the amusement of others. You are dirt, you are worthless, you are nothing; no excuses.
Q: What are the types of Barbed wires?
Barbed wire is a sharp, twisted form of wire which is used mainly for protection and containment. Barbed wire is twisted at various stages to create sharp points which can create an instant injury if scaled. There are several different types of barbed wire. Classic Classic barbed wire is also the cheapest available. It is made of either steel or aluminum. The wire is twisted at sequential stages to create sharp points. Classic barbed wire will be used to keep animals in a specific area or to keep people away from a protected area. Razor Wire Razor barbed wire is used to line the walls of prisons and containment facilities. This wire is made by cutting large strips of aluminum with a sharp triangular blade on each side of the wire strip. These blades are extremely sharp. They are intended to cause much greater injury than a piece of classic barbed wire. Razor wire is often used to protect business premises from intruders. Spiral Spiral barbed wire is formed with a sharp blade running parallel to a piece of normal steel. This is then twisted into a spiral shape to create a long and continuous sharp edge to the wire. Spiral wire is often used for army exercises and for other containment or protection purposes. I hope this quite help u... thank u. :-)
