- Hi the professional opinions will also differ. that is for sure its a lot to do with taste generally and various arguments around the type of batteries used. some same as some need to be charged up then leave the power just in case of a power cut then you could have time to switch it off without loss of data. that does seem the most logical answer. however some believe charging and discharging the batteries makes them last longer. so you see there are lots of answers to your question.

- It will work if the wires are undamaged. But they will have been kinked when the cable got chewed. The cable is now dangerous, if the wires are pinched you may get a hot spot, melt the insulation and fire/shock hazard. Turn it off and replace the cable.

- EIDE (Enhanced IDE) is no longer a standard on most computers which uses SATA. In turn, they also use different power connections. The channel cable is dependent on the mother board, but the power supply is dependent on the power box. If there is an IDE channel, but no power cable, you have only two options. 1. Buy a new SATA based drive. 2. But a new power supply. Buying a new power supply to replace the one you have is definitely a void of warranty. You are much better off with a new drive.
- Q: I have a power adapter that changes the tip of a power cable from the US standard to the Spain standard. My laptop has 3 prongs and the adapter accepts 2. It fits into it, but the 3rd prong just rests outside. I know the voltage over there is twice as strong, so will this work correctly?
- i hope to goodness this is not just a gimmick that changes from round plugs to flat plugs...make sure it down-steps the voltage too!!! but otherwise, yeah. the third prong is not essential in any country, it's just a safety feature - many homes in the US even don't have it. my one friend installed fake electrical sockets that have the hole for the third prong (but the hole is not connected to anything) and her laptops work fine.

- The higher they are up, the Higher the voltage. Of course, high voltage power will usually have individual bare aluminum conductors on porcelain or plastic insulators. Lower voltage (120/240 in North Amercia) is either three or four conductors on a set individual insulators, or two or three insulated wires wrapped around an aluminum wire (steel cored actually). The 4th wire, if there, is for street lights. Telephone is a think cable, with junction boxes evert few homes, which the customer lines come off of. Cable lines are a round coax, which connect to its pole equipment with threaded connections, usually with hex fittings, and splitter/taps which customer lines conenct to. Cable lines also have power injector boxes every often. They supply the power for amplifiers. If the wires are overhead to a home, you can usually tell by what they connect to. Electricity is obvious, the individual conductors from the lateral connect to the individual conductors on the drop, which lead to the meter. Telephone and cable both usually go to similar boxes on the house, but cable continues with one or more of similar coax, while telephone goes in with a JKT, Cat 3, or 5 cable, often grey.

- That's right, the power cable is in case your power supply doesn't have a 6-pin power connector. A 300W power supply for a 3850 is cutting it a bit close, but you'll probably get away with it if the rest of your machine is typical. (Typical machines with a 3850 are just under 200W peak. See link.)
- Q: My amp was working this morning. On my way home, the power cable came out somehow. I put it back in and it wasn't powering on. The amp fuses were blown, I replaced them. Then I went to hook the battery terminal back and the fuse in my power cable blew instantly. I replaced it and tried again and it blew again. Also the fuses in the amp are fine now. I did the same process when I installed my amp the first time and it was fine so I don't know why it's doing this now. The amp is a Boston Acoustics 800w RMS amp and an 80a fuse. Any ideas?
- Look at your previous question. I told you what it probably is. Either you have strand(s) of power wire stick out somewhere and touching something it shouldn't be touching. Or. You tapped the power wire on something during removal and cooked the amps power supply. The current flow from a shorted circuit gets very hot, very fast.
