Q: Has anyone had any issues with installing kitchen cabinets over Pergo floors? The installation instructions don't recommend it, I was wondering why? I'm screwing the cabinets do the floors or anything, and have left the appropriate space for expansion around the perimeter.Just looking for some personal comments on your experience with Pergo.Thanks!: If you are using the pergo that has a composite back then it's not good to use in a room with water. If there is a leak it can cause the floor to buckle and then you have a distorted floor that looks bad and you can't get at it if it's under the cabinets. I have made that mistake and now I have to tear one all out and replace it with tile. You spend a lot of money and then have to redo it. The only laminate floor you should put in a kitchen should be glued or nailed down for best results. Anything that floats will allow water to seep under it.

Q: My family room and kitchen are one large area, I am hesitant to put a laminate floor in the kitchen because of the dog running in and out of the kitchen to outdoors and getting the floor wet with snow or rain. Will that be a problem with a laminate kitchen floor?: It can be if you don t take precautions..You can t get water on it with out wiping it up right away..Standard size dog usually isn t a problem,but large energetic dogs with large nails can be..Rugs and not getting water ( from the sink also) is a big help..GL

It may be about 3 inches off level. We need to level out both floors, but have no idea how.: We had this problem and it not fun to fix. It is great however to spill milk in the kitchen and not have to break your neck running to catch it before it pours under the molding. What we did was tear the floor up and attach level floor joists to the unlevel ones then re-lay the floor. Sound fairly simple but make sure you think it through before you start. Think about your doorways matching up if they don't have a step. If you only have one entry that will work- just level it with that. If you painted your wall a certain way or have paneling up half way it may look unlevel after the floor's done so you might have to change that too. You could try jacking it up the low spot underneath but don't expect much. We tried it and by the time we had the house the joists were too warped. The high spot got higher too. Anyway- good luck and you'll love it once it's done!
