- Q: I was given a 8ft 8 in x 12 ft 2 in persian rug that is in superb condition. It is authentic, but can not find out how much it is worth. I know that it cost 2,000 dollars 30 plus yrs ago, but am clueless on what it would go for these days. Could anyone give me some advice on how to find it's worth. I was given it a couple yrs ago by a family member who had passed away, it was left to me in their will. I dont like the color or style, Im into more modern stuff and I am looking to sell it. Someone please help, I am desperate and dont want to get ripped off, or name the wrong price and come to find out later that its far more pricier that I originally thought.
- This site has a rug estimator which will give you a price on your rug. You can also check our their forums or ask the site owner directly. I have been following their site for a while now, and he/she always has posts with people in your exact position. I would suggest sending some photos and they can accurately price it out. Best of luck!
- Q: What if I went to Home Depot and bought a sheet of rubber cut to just a bit less than 8' x 10' and then a piece of felt the same size - glue them together and pop the area rug on top?Would that work?
- Hi Blue Eyed Homo, I am a flooring associate that works at The Home Depot, and I know that some rug pads seem to be expensive, especially in your size. I've worked in other departments and been with the company for almost 10 years and I have yet to see a sheet of rubber that will sell in the store other than pan liner for tubs that would work in your situation. Also, you won't find at our store pieces of felt in that size. Plus, felt just won't be able to grip the rug properly especially if you have a hardwood floor. Did you check around your local stores flooring department? I think I may have a less expensive solution for you. Carpet padding, not rug pad, but the kind ppl place under their carpets. It may not look pretty but its made to not be seen anyway and it works great for big area rugs your size. Home Depot sells carpet pad in pre-cut 6ft. by 9ft. rolls or have your flooring associate there cut out a size for you. Bottom line....the carpet pad will be way less expensive than the rug pads we sell, and you'll still have a slip resistant surface for your new area rug for years to come. Hope this helps, aboveaveragejoe
- Q: My cat keeps scratching my carpet should i get her declawed oris there a way train her?
- A cat's natural instinct is to stretch and scratch. That's what helps develop their muscles, so they need to be able to do this somewhere. A scratching post sprinkled with a little catnip should take care of the problem. Also, I used to be a veterinary technician and assisted in many declawing surgeries. All I can say is that its very brutal and inhumane. It can be likened to having your fingers chopped off at the second knuckle! They are in severe pain and sometimes bleed for weeks after. It seems that a trim of the nails once a month would be a safe, painless and surprisingly easy alternative to declawing. Another thing, if he accidentally gets out and can't be found for several days, w/o claws, he cannot defend himself!!! I hope everything works out for you two! Erin G. FanciBeast Maine Coons
- Q: Will it look ok if I put a cream rug over a cream (a bit darker cream) carpet? :-/
- Hi Laly, my own Trial and Error is where my answer comes from. I had tan carpeting in the living room and added an off white area area rug. I did have it placed in front of the larger sofa. It did not visually work for me. I had no coffee table or anything that held it down again, visually speaking. I would suggest that you throw a sheet folded to the approx size of the area rug similar in color on the floor prior to making a purchase. And see what your opinion of it is. It does work visually if you have a coffee table, this will hold down the lighter rug when viewing your room. Happy decorating!
- Q: i want to put in some new carpet in these two small rooms about 3x3 each how much around would it be? plus to be installed by someone
- The standard price to install carpeting is about $3. 00-$4. 00/square foot. This only includes the installation of the carpet and not a carpet pad, which costs an extra $0. 50/square foot. Carpet installers will also remove old carpeting for about $0. 50/square foot. These would all be minimum prices and could increase depending on the type of carpet you wish to install ask at your local carpet store as they sometimes have a list of contractors that could do the work for you and this would give you a better idea ok,good luck.
- Q: What should I be looking for in terms of quality? How do you tell if a rug is the real deal? Is there any pattern or color scheme that is more valuable. I am not buying it to sell, but want a good rug. Thanks.
- Different region use different patterns. Smal knotts are good. the smaler the better. The pattern should be clearly visible in the back otherwise you have a machine knitted one
- Q: I have wall to wall carpets in my apartment. I have placed large rugs on top of the carpet. Without damaging the carpet or the rug, how can I stop them from .wrinkling and moving? Is it caused by static electricity?
- Stores sell kind of a rubbery, mat that lays under throw and area rugs. It is made to keep them from moving around and its not sticky so it won't hurt the carpet underneath.
- Q: I am wanting to purchase a carpet shampooer, but I'm not sure which one would be the best.I could use some input on this. Thanks!
- Don't okorder / this is the best easiest way to keep great looking carpets. You can rent the machine that brushes the product in and then you vacuum it. th machine doesn't cost too much to rent and the results are fabulous. I kept my carpets looking like new for 10 years. When I sold my home people couldn't believe it wasn't new carpeting. Also great for allergies.
- Q: What's the best carpet in a luxury cruise ship?
- The carpet used on cruise requirements are relatively high, it must first meet a few points: first, corrosion, corrosion of seawater is very strong, second, to meet fire safety requirements, long-term cruise ship sailing on the sea, the fire protection requirements are very high, especially the ground material. The carpet used on the cruise is not the usual carpet.
- Q: Baby had a ball with foundation in bathroom. Cleaned everything but the rug. It's vanilla-colored, and is 100% cotton. Any hope?
- I am assuming this is just a bathroom throwrug, so there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't just throw it in the washer. I would also think if you use the makeup remover cloths (like you use on your face) before washing, that should loosen up and dissolve it so it will rinse out in the wash. It is gently enough to use on your face- so it should be gentle enough for your rug. A laundry pretreatment like Oxi-clean, and regular detergeant with a non-chlorine bleach should get the rest out. The big worry with 100% cotton is if it will shrink in the dryer- but I've not had a bathroom rug do that if I used low heat until it was just damp dry, and then hung it to air dry completely. Look at the back and see if there is a care tag to say if it can be dried or not. If all else fails, and you are left with a few spots stained, maybe you could consider doing a dye job, a shade darker- to cover. Good luck with the cleaning. I have six kids, and long ago gave up on white and beige anything for just this reason!
