Q: I have a light beige and ivory rug with blue and green details. It doesn't match my decor, which is neon pink, bright green, and gold. How can I get rid or dye out the blue parts of the rug? What about bleach?
You want to do this at a laundromat, biggest machine possible. in cold water, bleach the rug. It may take two tries---using the largest possible machine, try a cup of detergent and a cup of bleach, and see what happens. If you get the desired shade, or lighten it enough, then you can immediately dye it (To a darker shade, of course.) Otherwise, double or triple the bleach, no detergent, and run it again. You may put additional bleach in the compartment where the fabric softener goes, and it will bleach it again on the rinse cycle. After you dye it, as a courteousy to the next person, run it through a cycle with detergent, empty. Or you can do a load of dark, old clothes, like blue jeans. To dry it, lay it on a flat surface, turning it occasionally, and avoid direct sunlight, ideally it will be in the shade on a warm, breezy day. If indoors, dry it on an old sheet on a carpet, with a fan pointed at it, again, turning it every hour or two. Good-luck---Brian
Q: Hi all i burnt the carpet and if our landlord see's it i am done for, is there anything i could do to make it look better, thanks
Snip the burnt area with scissors (just the fibers). Find an area of rug (under a couch or better, in a dark corner)trim an area about the size of the burn and glue the unburned fibers with a household glue to the cleaned burned area. Actually, cut out from your closet a small piece of carpet pad, get a carpet floor adhesive from your nearest Home Depot. Use small spatula apply glue on floor,on pad, and set carpet on top it. (:
Q: My friend knocked over her beer on my rug and didn't tell me until the morning after... it smells pretty bad. Any suggestions how to get rid of it quickly and permanently? I don't have many tools to use but i can run to a drug store if i need to.
Get a towel and some warm soapy water. Scrub it up good then blot it dry with another towel as well as you can. When it is Completely dry sprinkle with baking soda, let that sit for a few minutes and then vaccum up.
Q: I need to patch a section of my carpet. The size I need to patch is 2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I will be patching just a few inches from the wall/front door. Here's my questions:1. Will the patch job be noticeable at all or will it blend in to the other carpet? 2. Will the replaced carpet piece be loose or need stretched? 3. What if the carpet I am patching doesn't exactly match because my current carpet is used and the patch will be brand new? I've never done this before so any advice for a first timer would be awesome! Thanks!
i saw this on TLC once. go into a closet you never use, or thats cluttered with junk. cut out that section however big you need it. make sure the piece of carpet you cut out of the closet fits perfect where the patch needs to go. now. at a carpet store for a couple bucks you can get this carpet tape (i dont remember the exact name, tell them what you are doing, they will help you) and you just put the tape half under the old carpet on all sides, and place the patch on top. and ta-da. you could hardly tell when i did it. hope it helps!
Q: What is the best way to get a VERY yucky white carpet clean???I have a carpet shampooer and it doesn't seem to do the job. Do you know of any good pre-treaters or tricks I should know?
Add a little bleach, and baking soda. Works well for me!
Q: So we recently just moved into a new house, and my room is hardwood flooring. I have this HUGE empty space in the middle of my room and want to get a rug.Well since everything else in my room is pink, where can I find a pink rug?Possibly around the size of 5ft x 4ft.Oh and for under 40 dollars.I just need the store names pleasssssse (:
Also look around when dorm furniture and sales start, you'll see a lot of pink.
Q: Help! my floor is carpeted, and I had a flood, so now my whole carpet is wet and I don't think it's going to dry by itself.HOW DO I DRY IT?
Suggest to use a wet/dry shop vac to suc up the water/moisture ,then use fans and a dehumidifier.
Q: I don't have a stitch of carpet in my house, but my floors always seem dirty, even 20 minutes after sweeping. Carpets or flooring, and why?
if i had it to do over again i would have put the snap together wood looking laminate throughout my home instead of carpet. carpet gathers more dust and pet dander, and stains. with the laminate i could have kept it clean between times with a simple swiffer mop cloth.vacuums make so much dust unless you spend an arm and a leg on them, i hate them. next time my floors are redone, it will be laminate. when we tore our carpet up i was shocked at the nastiness under it, not only the dirt that was trapped that the vacuum couldnt get, but the padding had made a lot of its own nasty dusty crap under there from being worn and walked on....i did put down berber carpet this time and no padding, not next time though. we dont wear shoes in the house, i dont know about rude,( it is rude when someone else wears their shoes on your carpet for sure) but its considered nasty, i dont wasnt someone possibly tracking dog knows what on my carpets...carpets gather dust, hair, and anything else that floats by.
Q: I purchased an old wool, floral patterned, pile area rug (approx. 8' x 10') at an auction. It needs cleaned and there is not a professional cleaner in my area. Can I clean it with a traditional steam cleaner using cold water? If so, what about the beater bar? Do I need to diconnect that so I don't fuzz the wool? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I am a pro carpet cleaner and have been in the business for 10 years, do not take your wool rug to the laundry mat and do not use your steam cleaner on it. Wool is a very delicate fiber and can therefore be easily damaged. I would definitly see if there is any professional carpet cleaners that will come and pick it up from your house. If your area rug is not to expencive however you may be able to get away with just using the steam cleaner with no beater bar and just water, but if it is expencive the the only way to go it to have a pro do it.
Q: Hello:I am planning to buy contemporary rugs (10ft x 8ft) for my living room. can someone please tell me good stores or online links where i can buy... thanks for the help.
