Q:I've seen the robot vacuum cleaners before (iRobot Roomba) and they seem really cool. But in reading about them, it seems like the mostly work on bare floor or super short carpet. Are there any models that work with normal medium length carpet?: I have a Roomba Discovery and it cleans my medium pile carpet wonderfully! None of the Roomba vacuums are recommended for shag carpet or fringe rugs. You also must move wires and cords, just like with a regular vacuum.To get the best cleaning possible from your Roomba you should clean the brushes regularly. Most of the Roomba models now come with a brush cleaner, but if your doesn't, you can order one for less than $5.00. If you have pets I would recommend the Roomba Discovery for Pets. You are correct...they are really cool! My Roomba and Scooba(the robot that mops) are the BEST house cleaning products that I have ever owned..

Q:The motor turns ok, and my husband couldn't find where the hose was clogged.. we just can't get any suction.It is a Dirt Devil. Upright. Approx 7-8 yrs old.: Vacuum cleaners are simple machines. They only NOT work because the intake line is clogged, the bag is full, the motor doesn't work, or the exhaust vent is clogged. If you can start unhooking hoses and vents, find out what works, then re-attach hoses and vents until something doesn't work. If the motor spins and the bag is replaced, I'll bet you've got a clog in the intake hose. Disconnect it from the rest of the cleaner and jam a garden hose down the length of it. You may dislodge a wad of yuck or a golf ball or sock or something.

Q:if you brought a battery operated conventional vacuum cleaner into space, in theory would it work? would it be able to create the internal vacuum to make it work? ( I am thinking along the lines of positive and negative pressure): how could it make a pressure gradient if the pressure is zero everywhere? your vacuum cleaner would be reduced to just being a box with a rotating disc inside.

I have owned ours now for 7 years and it still works great! I loathe bagless vacuums because the dirt STILL has to be bagged and dumping the canister into another bag was horrid. The dirt and dust goes airborne creating a bigger problem than you start with! Oreck bags are worth every penny. They have a special way of sealing as you pull them out of the machine. I could go on and on. I love my Oreck. You can visit any Oreck store for a live demonstration. Just tell them you window shopping for vacuums. :) No I don't work for them. I'm just a happy homemaker who finally found a great vacuum! :)

Q:i need something cheap too: With allergies, buy any one in your price range as long as it has a hepa filter. They filter finer particles than a regular filtered vac. For a reasonably priced name for a starter vac, check the Dirt Devil brands
