FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:Why don't they make gasoline powered vacuum cleaners?
Because carbon monoxide and the smell of gasoline exhaust aren't good indoors, and all homes have electricity.
Q:I have the Miele now, and see that Kenmore was top rated by Consumer Reports.
Have used Kenmore for years, also based on C/R ratings. Mine is a cannister; works well on dog fur. As I recall, Miele's biggest problem was initial cost, so if it's working ok, stick with it, but if you NEED to replace it, go with Kenmore. (My sister-in-law, whose kids have asthma, also swears by Kenmore.)
Q:I would like to hear from users of the H20 Vacuum Cleaners. Are they as good as they say?
yeah, they really suck
Q:I have carpet all throughout my house, white carpet! I had 4 upright vacuums in the last 2 years. My first vacuum cleaner was a dirt devil and it would pick up stuff, then throw them back. The second was the same one, I thought that the first one messed up. My third vacuum was a Bissell and it picks up really good, but it gets clogged and I had unclogged it alot of times so I just got sick of it and threw it away. Now I just bought a eureka vacuum and it worked really really good but now it's not picking anything up. Now I just don't know what vacuum to get, because I had some many. Please suggest some really good vacuum cleaners. Thanks, :)
1. Dyson 2. Dyson 3. Dyson, expect you get the picture. The first time you use a Dyson in your house you'll be amazed how much muck it picks up, then you realize all the previous times all you were doing was moving dust from one place to another. Dyson.
Q:anyone know of a car wash that also has vacuum cleaners and such to clean your car out in Winston Salem, N.C.?
Whats wrong with using the one at your home? I use mine to clean my auto interior once a week for 4 o years.
Q:anyone own a kenmore progressive vacuum cleaner!? I am in the market for a really great vacuum, at a resonable price, (unlike dyson's)! i have read good and bad reviews on the progressive! I have a black lab and I need a great vaccum to get up all that dog hair! Please let me know what you think and also what kind of progressive you have! THANK YOU!
I own one - but - I also have central vacuuming as well. I own a Bernese Mountain Dog - very furry. I use the Kenmore cleaner at my office...a lot of foot traffic on commercial type carpet - you know - the real flat ugly stuff - and my vac does an excellent job. I would definitely recommend the progressive - Consumer Reports rated it one of the best too (if that means anything to you)
Q:gift horse in the mouth?Especially with the new Horsepower vacuum! : P
A vacuum would be a perfect gift, if it were for her to clean with.
Q:It's around $500 for a middle quality/tier unit.
It okorder
Q:I have a Dyson Animal - what brand of Vacuum Cleaner do you use - Hoover, Dyson , Vax ..etc...
I have a vac that I bought from a local vacuume shop that was built to their specs. It cannot be bought in any store or even on the internet (at least the last time I checked). Delta is what it it called. It's has a very heavy duty motor which is considered to be commercial duty. Has 3 stages of filter plus the bags I buy for it are hospital grade hepa. What goes in that vac does not come out of it that is for sure. So I am not spreading more dust while I am trying to clean it up. It's a bit on the bulky side and awkward to get around with but I have found that with vacuumes there's always some sort of sacrafice to be made. You have to decide on what is important to you with the features and just pick what best suits you. This machine I can have serviced and it should last me most of my life. All parts can be repaired/replaced on it as needed. Because it cleans so well and keeps the dust contained rather than spewing it right back out I choose it over lighter weight cheaper vacs that are easier to work with. IMHO you should look at a vac store before buying out of any general merchandise store.
Q:Greetings, all! I am currently cleaning my room, as in looking for dust spots and trying to sweep it up. I tried vacuuming, but my bird got scared and jumped to the bottom of the cage, so I figured to get a little birdhouse to move him while I did it. I also cleaned the lamp that I was using to give him light at night, and I accidentally swept too fast, I saw the particles rise around the cage. I got so worried. Should I be worried? Or is it only a large accumulation that could damage the bird? What can I do?Thanks in advance!
Get a vacuum cleaner that will pick up dust. These new vacuum cleaners they've come up with have Hepa filters in them and are supposed to be good if you have allergies and such. Might be helpful for the bird as well. I have one myself because I have 2 cats and a lot of hair shedding. It works great. Might want to try that.
