Q: My mother recently passed away. I had prepaid her rent for a full year. The bedroom had several stains on it and I recognize the carpet needed to be replaced, and I'm OK with paying for it. The bedroom is around 200 square feet in Connecticut. The landlord took the opportunity to replace the carpet with hardwood. He told me the carpet would have cost $600 installed but he paid extra for the hardwood out of his own pocket. The carpet that was there previously was the cheapest contractor grade material you can imagine. I have a hard time believing it cost $600 at $3 a square foot for cheap carpet installed. Should I be pressing this? I figured it would be $300 - $400, max, for similar off-white basic carpet.: Offer 350 and tell him to sue you for the rest. Tell him you aren't paying for the best carpet when he didn't even install it.

Q: wax cleanup from rug: don't use an iron. You have a good chance of melting your rug if it is made of synthetic fiber. I used an iron on a rug before and the rug material actually melted and stuck to the cloth I had laid on top. If your carpet is wool or cotton it won't melt...but the melted wax will actually wick into the carpet fiber when it liquifies. Do the opposite. Get a bag of ice and freeze it for several minutes, then scrape the hardened wax from the carpet with a credit card or plastic scraper. If there is any wax color remaining in the carpet, you may have more problems.

Q: what should i do?: Do both. Vacuum the rugs during the week to pick up particles and hair, and then throw them in the wash on occasion to make sure they stay fresh. I would also spray them lightly with Lysol a few times a week to keep mold and fungus at bay.

Q: We had some pee spots on our area rug while house breaking our dog. We rented a rug doctor steam cleaner and cleaned our rug but now I can smell dog pee just sitting on the couch. I can assure you we were very thorough in cleaning this rug; went over the area many times using over half a bottle of solution then ran just water several times to get up all remaining soap. I can understand that it seems we have loosened and spread around the pee, but if doing a through job with a steam cleaner doesn't work, what else can I do? Now I couldn't even spot treat since it is all over now. I would assume the pee is up but the odor remains. There is no carpet pad under this rug which I know can be the problem with carpet. Thanks for you help! :D: Wow thats quite a list :P but anyway i live in the UK to so i know about how cold it gets one thing i would make sure to do is that on the middleweight and heavyweight turnouts, make aure they have necks, either detachable or built in. This is because it gets cold so your horse needs to be as warm as possible also it depends on the breed of the horse but you might want a lightweight summer turnout sheet , maybe for windy days, light rain or just to keep your horse clean :) an exercise sheet is a good buy if you hack out alot or dont have an idoor school and you wont need the fly sheet until the summer as with the L/W turnout :) good luck with your horse hope this helped x

Q: It has no darts int the shoulders like most rugs and i don't want to buy it if it will rub: I am going to buy one exactly the same - for the same purpose! my friend has one and it goes under everything - stable rugs, quilt rugs, outdoor winter rugs, canvases, deniers, even summer rugs just for the extra warmth - everything! She has had no rubbing problems and swears by them! I am going to get one exactly the same and i am sure you will have no problems with it! All the people i know who use them have no rubbing problems or anything as i asked them the same question - so from what ive heard - go ahead and buy it!!! kizza

Q: The floor is pretty beat up in some of the rooms and between having a baby and preparing for a deployment I don't know if we're going to be able to fix it properly in the near future so I want to prevent further damage with rugs and runners.Anyway, I want to put runners and rugs down in the heavy traffic areas. Couple of questions:Do you know of a good store/website that has matching rugs and runners for reasonable prices?Also, we plan to put the runners on stairs ourselves, which are all wood also (they are straight and all the stairs are uniform in size so it shouldn't be a problem ... it's a three-story-house) but we were wondering if we can just buy a runners to do this or do we have to buy special runners specifically made for staircases? I have personally purchased two runners and stapled them, one after the other, onto my stairs. It was supposed to be a quick-fix but it turned out so well, that here we are 7 years later and it still looks great. If you select a runner with a boarder, begin at the top of the steps. Once you work your way down the steps, you may have to cut off the edge of the rug (boarder) and then some, so the cut lands at the end of a riser above a stair tread. If you want the boarder to show at the bottom of the steps, begin the second runner at the bottom of the steps and work up to the other runner until they meet in the riser crease. This will look like it is all one custom piece with a boarder all around the edges. Good luck. To protect your floors from further damage until you can get around to either refinishing the floors or installing wall to wall carpeting, I would certainly use rug pads under any runners or throw rugs.
