- Q: I'm remodeling a house on a tight budget. All the carpet needs replaced and I was wondering if anyone has bought carpet from Ollie's Bargain Outlet? If you have, is it a good choice and will it last a long time? I was also looking at Lowes carpeting. A good friend of mine told me that Lowes carpeting isn't very good in the long run. Has anyone had any problems with it? (I'm installing the carpet on my own if that makes a difference)

- You could rent a 'rug doctor' carpet cleaning machine. The walmarts in my neighborhood have them. They are like $20 to rent for 24hours. I've heard that they work very well.

- WHAT?? Are you sure that was a hair dryer and not a freekin' HEAT GUN? I've never heard of a hair dryer that was hot enough to melt the typical polymers used in carpeting. In any case, you tried to fix a problem and for some strange reason it didn't work - if I were the owner, I might be upset, but if you really used just a conventional hair dryer, and it indeed melted the carpet, I think I would be more upset with the carpet company. After all, you were trying to do the right thing. Now, if you're lucky, the homeowner will have some spare carpeting that they've saved away for exactly this kind of accident. An experienced carpet layer can surgically replace that using any one of two or three techniques. They can even do this if the homeowner doesn't have some spare carpeting, although that will add some additional cost, and the match may not be quite as good (depends on the color and style, which if the house is new, will hopefully still be available).

- If you want a cheap carpet, I wouln't bother with an online source. By the time you paid shipping, your price would be increased considerably. Try a carpet store that sells room-sized remnants. You may be able to find a piece large enough to lay wall-to-wall, or you could check into having it bound. Do you have Big Lots in your area? I'd check there, and also the classified ads in your paper. Sometimes people change out their carpet and sell large pieces. Do you have a Habitat for Humanity thrift store in your area? Check that out.
- Q: When I first moved into my apartment it reeked like cat urine and the carpets where filthy. I shampooed the carpets using a water and laundry detergent but the carpet still looks bad. I have read about using vinegar and I tried it on one spot but I dont know that I used the right amount because it didnt seem to work. - Q: We are going to replace our flooring in the basement, it has very expensive cushony white carpet, and over the years with kids and dogs, it no longer looks white. Our basement is just under 1000 sq ft, and don't really feel like ripping all the carpet up. Its a very warm, dry basement, no dampness or leaks. - There are many nice machine made rugs that are not very expensive.You can find them at department stores, which often have sales, and home improvement stores -- which are good ones for high traffic areas. Hand made ones will be more expensive, it's all in how much you can afford.

- In summer I use one good paddock rug (something light) and my summer shade, non rip light rug. So on the cool days and nights they where a paddock rug and the rest of the time their summer coats are protected from the sun - because we show. In the autumn I use a heavier winter rug (disappointed with my latest weatherbeeta - the straps have broken, leg straps and surcingle straps). Then just before winter comes I use an under rug as well. In the Spring as the temperature permits I undress my neds. I haven't used canvas rugs in a couple of years, but I certainly see them as more forgiving if they are left on the the horse gets a little warm. So while I love my weatherbeetas etc they are time consuming changing them along with the rain clouds. Happy riding.
