Q: My father changed out a 3 prong plug to a 4 prong plug and crossed the wires by mistake. So the red wire on the plug was connected to the black wire to the dryer and visa-verse. What would happen to the dryer if it is turned on with these wires crossed? Consequently, my dryer's motor is not responding, however the heating element is working. Was there a short? Did the motor get fired?
The red and the black each deliver 110 volts to the prongs to which they are connected in the plug. As long as the neutral is correctly positioned, the power should be okay and nothing should be damaged. If he also mixed up the white wire, and put one of the red or blacks where the white is supposed to go, it could have caused a problem. If the heating element works correctly, then you are still getting 240 volts to the dryer. I'm inclined to think there is a problem where the motor is connected to the power, or there may be a separate fuse on the dryer that blew during the wiring process.
Q: I've had my subs wired up for a while but want to see if there is a more efficient way to do it. Hardware: Sony Xplod 800w amp bridgeable amp - What's the best way to wire these up to get the most volume?
wire the voice coils to series on each sub and then wire the subs in parallel to the amp and voila.
Q: Both wires are green but unsure if it is the top or bottom wire.
go to autozone and get a test light (looks like a screwdriver with a light in the handle and a ground) ground it and poke it on each wire, light lights up you got the hot one.
Q: Or can stranded wire of the same gauge be subsitituted for solid wire without any consequences? The reason I ask is because its for a massive 4kJ capacitor discharge circuit, and I need all the energy delivered to the power coils im using, cant afford to have much leakage inductance.
Stranded wires have slightly higher inductance than solid wires, but this is noticable only on transmission lines and larger conductors. if you are only using a short conductor, i don't think the inductance of the wire will affect the system, unless the wire is coiled.
Q: Hi,I have an issue with wiring in house. This is in Paris, France. I will share a foto so you can have a clearer picture what my question is.
Got a meter? On the output side Wht/Grn = ground Brown = 'Hot' (230 V.) Blue = Neutral Test out what you've got in the French outlet box.
Q: When I cross the black wire and ground I get a spark. Isnthis normal?
Well, one of the wires has to be hot, or it defeats the entire purpose! Yes, generally black is the code for the hot wire. White is generally neutral, and green is ground. There are weird exceptions, so don't assume anything about anything. White and green are not the same, by design. There should be working voltage between either of them. There should be negligible voltage between neutral and ground. If you don't know what you're doing, don't work on house wiring with the power on. That stuff can burn you. Burns are the worst injury to recover from, in terms of taking a long time, being painful during that time, and leaving you scarred in the end. On second thought, don't work on it with the power off either. You can hook things up wrong and it will seemingly work until one day it bites somebody, possibly not you. Learn how to do it properly. It is not that hard, but you do need to do the research. It also helps to have a few basic tools like the plug polarity checker.
Q: TRUCK WIRES, quot;orange, yellow,,red,,black,,white,,brownSTEREO wires ,,Yellow, red, black how do i hook this up right ? HELP !!
Or, do it the right way, and get a voltmeter, ensuring the vehicle wires are connected properly to the aftermarket stereo, based on ITS wiring diagram. I hope you are soldering and shrink wrapping your connections! Edit: Read the fricking manual for the radio! We can't tell you how the manufacturers designed the radio, especially since you haven't given a brand or model number! If you don't have the manual, download it from the internet! Did you even bother looking on the chassis of the radio to see if the wiring pinout is stamped there? The Chinese don't adhere to the same wiring norms we do, you can't assume anything, which is why I told you to use a voltmeter.
Q: is this a wire that like is the same as buying any other one?
8g might be a little overkill. A 10g 2 conductor wire should be sufficient for nearly any application. Here's a link with more than anyone ever needs to know about speaker wire:
Q: Are toast - previous owner did a bad amp install on them and there is basically no wire left to use for mine.Is it possible to run a radio power wire/remote wire from the fuse panel back to the radio? If so can i just shove the wire in the fuse holder then stick the fuse back in on top of it?((Fuse 8 is the mustangs radio fuse))
Never wire anything into your fuse box, that will defeat the purpose of having it. You will have to do what's called a hard wire. You will need to run all new wires, which is the safest way to do it, with all proper fusing. A constant +12, a switched +12 and a ground is all you need for the radio to work, and all new speaker wires. If you can find one in a junkyard, you might be able to find a new harness to repair the OEM one, and that would really help you out. Good luck!
Q: i just got two new aiwa stereo speaker's they come with their own wiring in the back but i dont know which wire is whatthere is one black wireand there is another black with gray dashesim thinking the one with dashes is positive?the speaker works both ways
Chances are the marked wire is positive. For your purposes it doesn't matter a whole lot. The phasing (which DOES matter) will be correct as long as you are consistent with both speakers. If you can remove the front grill or otherwise see the speaker cone directly, you can check the polarity with a AA or other 1-1/2 volt battery. The cone will move forward when the positive wire is *briefly* touched to the positive terminal of the battery while the negative wire is held on the negative terminal. If you see it move back, you've connected the wires in reverse. Don
