Q: Hi there,I have a very old house which only has 2 wires (1 white, 1 black) coming out of the wall.The ceiling fan / light has 2 red wires, 1 black, 1 green.What is right way to wire for this to operate?Thanks,: Most fans have a wiring schematic and this will tell you how to wire it. Normally black is the power, green is a ground, which you don't have, and as for the red wires I'm not sure. Is this a new fan or one that has been used before. In the USA we have a white wire which is a neutral. I'm puzzled about the two red wires, these may have been added at a later date. If your in a country that has 240 volts then this may be an explanation. Regards, Dale

Q: I moved into a home with pre-wired speakers. There is a bundle of speaker wire coming out of the wall. Each wire has 4 colors of other wire coming out of it. There are a total of 7 main wires (with four wires each) and a total of 9 speakers.: 4 conductor wire has a few neat uses. 1 is to bi-wire your speakers. Meaning that if the speaker has 2 red and 2 black terminals then remove the bridge and run the cables to the posts separately thus increasing surface conduction and increasing output and sound quality. Also if you are running cables in the wall to 2 speakers that are near each other or to a single stereo speaker then you don't have to run 2 separate 2-conductor wires. This would also be true if you are running to a second zone using an in wall volume control. If this is the only wire you have for a standard speaker connection it won't hurt to twist them together at both end (pos with pos/ neg with neg) and serves the same purpose as using thicker cables.

Q: im installing a JVC raido in my 1990 nissan maxima and cant figure out how to properly conect the wires: The easiest way to install the head unit is to buy the harness adapter that's for your car and match the colors of the harness adapter to the head unit wiring harness. An antenna adapter will also be needed for the new head unit. A dash kit will obvious will be needed to make the installation seamless.

Q: i have 4 wires going to a ac unit #10 wires 2 wires for each cir. and i need to know how many amps can I run with 2 #10 copper for one side of the breaker: 10 gauge wire is rated for 30 amps unless its a long run. I'm not sure I'm picturing the right setup you're proposing in your description but if you're talking about having two 'hot' wires and two 'neutral wires' clamped together at both ends its a bad idea. It would make sense that you could run 60 amps through the wire if it was doubled up like that but because of [science] it doesn't work like that. Not to mention any electrician or inspector would be drawing exclamation points on their notepad if they saw a setup like that. If you need to run more than 30 amps just buy lower gauge wire.

If not, where exactly would i hook it up behind my aftermarket sony headunit?: If your talking about a remote wire there should be a blue wire with a white stripe coming out of the wiring harness for your receiver/head unit... And run a wire from that to the remote terminal on your amp. All this does is send a 12v signal so when you turn the key on your car/truck it signals the amp to turn on. If your head unit does not have a remote wire you can run a wire from your amp to your ignition..
