- Q: We are trying to get the carpet in one of our bedrooms in our house replaced, but we are on a tight budget. We went to home depot and they said they would have to charge us around $900 to replace all the carpet padding and install the new carpet. we said that we would leave the same padding (to save money), but the woman told us that it is an ohio state law that carpet companies MUST replace the padding if they are going to replace the carpet too. another company we called said this isn't true. was the lady at home depot just trying to get more money out of us, or is there really a carpet padding law? I cant seem to find anything about it. any help is appreciated.
- Is this home you own or rent? And also what state are you in? I know there are states where if you are a landlord, you have to replace carpet and padding every 2,3,5 years for your tenants. I dont believe that I've heard of any law that requires you to replace carpet padding in you own your home while you are replacing yoru carpet (however its a good idea to change the padding if you are doing new carpets, because the old padding will retain the stains, and odor of your old carpet, and if you've had water damage, there may be mildew as well).
- Q: I have a carpeted hallway and it gets very dirty from people, prams etc. Can anyone tell me the best cleaner to use?
- If you want something that's more for a specific spot on the rug and that''s quick and easy - try the 409 carpet cleaner (you can get it at the grocery store or walmart) - it's foam that you spray on the rug and then vacuum it up. A good thing about this stuff - I use it on my dry clean only blazers between trips to the dry cleaner - it's great for getting stains around the cuff and any make-up stains on the lapels! Foam it on, rub it in and then use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum to suck it off of the fabric!
- Q: Hi, everyone, Last friday night accidentally I park my car near gutter and it was raining very hard. Any way my car was flooded, the water level.thank God the car is working great except that the air bag light is not going off. I am planning to take it to body shop. Anyway my question is about the wet carpet in the car. I tried everything from using wet/dry vacuum to hair dry to leave the car open in the sun for few days. For some reason the moist is still there and has a bed perfume. Does anyone know how to fix this problem.thanks
- suggest that once you have vacuumed the excess water,move the car inside if possible, open all car doors and and use electric fans to dry out the carpet.If you do this overnight it should be dry by morning. this is how I have seen the shops do it.
- Q: What kind of rug should I buy that will stand up best to cat's claws besides sisal?
- take a cardboard box, cut it into strips 3 inches wide.16 to 24 inches long depending on the size of your cat. find or make a box 6 to 8 inches wide, to fit the strips in. take the 3 inch stips you cut and turn them one edge [so you can see the corrugation] fit the strips into your box so tight that there is no movement. before you fit the strips in put a small amount of catnip in the bottom of the box. the cats will use this like a scratching post. do not put too much catnip in the bottom or the cats will just lay on the box. when the cats have destroyed the box build another...
- Q: How do you handle the new carpet?
- Wash: spray detergent 10 to 15 minutes after the stain from the fiber, and then wash it with a washing machine. Operate back, each operation ensures a portion overlap, at least two times after washing.
- Q: I was just wondering if CLR can remove carpet stains. If so, how would you use it? what are the steps?
- Not sure what CLR is, however I would like to tell you what not to use. Never use any products made for doing laundry as some can damage the dyes in nylon carpet. One drop of white or clear dish washing soap in a glass of water will remove most spots without adding to much soap to the carpet. Soap still in the carpet becomes sticky and a dirt magnet. Some dish soaps dyed various colors can dye the carpet. Food grade dyes such as those found in Kool Aid cannot be successfully removed without specialty products available to hot water extraction carpet/upholstery cleaners. These specialty cleaners for removing food dyes require extraction after they're used.
- Q: How to do fireproofing treatment to carpet
- there is no good way, since it is easy to catch fire, how can place carpet, that is not pure wool carpet, how to pass is hard, like the hotel carpet tufted carpet or other woven carpet, scutcheon: no open fire and no smoking, the best way is to go the hotel that is operating to see.
- Q: I just bought this big wool shag Rug.. and its really nice except it shedding..there is red hair balls everywere... on the floor...on my cloths ...its almost like having a big red dog that sheds constantly! what can i do ? is there something to spay on it ? someone suggested to me to use hairspray???... any advice?
- Let me know when you find a solutions, because I have one too. Just don't walk on it. It will not shed if nobody touch it. It is good for looking, not practical. And you can't use vaccum on it, got take it outside to beat it.
