Q: I'm trying to get my bench press form right, with free weights, but whenever I try my left side seems to always be lower than the right causing it to be unbalanced. The weight isn't an issue here as even with the bar stripped of free weights, I still have this problem. However, when I go to the bench press machine, I am able to do that with no problem at all, so I'm sure it's my form that is a problem. What can I do?*I'm right handed if that matters...
You can concert your family Doctor.
Q: I had to press 5 different types of leaves from my yard for part of my science project. I put newspaper, then the leaves, then a little more newspaper, then my english textbook, a dictionary, and a gallon of water. I let it sit for a week. My results:Australian bottle tree, Australian willow, kumquat bush, and lemon tree leaves worked perfectly.But... the ficus leaf (still got flattened and everything) is BROWN!What happened?I need to know ASAP so I know if I should try the ficus again or do a different type of leaf. I only have time for one more round of pressing before the project is due! Thanks :)
Ficus plants are always a problem when pressing. The main reason is that they have latex in their tissues and many of them have relatively thick leaves. Not only do they turn brown (or even black) but the leaves usually drop off the stems. There are a few ways to make good Ficus specimens but the ones I've heard of require alcohol (enough to dip the plants in) and you'd need to be able to apply dry heat to your press for a few days at least. So, if you don't HAVE to have a Ficus, use something else (weed from your lawn would be easiest).
Q: I need to know what a railway press is used for, how it works, and what they look like.
Haven't heard of that one Dude. Sorry. Any additional details?
Q: The Lombards press carrots by hand to make carrot juice. One fourth of the juice is extracted from the first pressing. Each subsequent pressing extracts one fourth of the remaining juice from the carrots. How many times will the carrots need to be pressed to extract at least two-thirds of the juice?
first press: 1/4 second press: 3/4* 1/4 = 3/16 third press: (3/4)^2* 1/4 = 3/4^3 then 1/4 + 3/4^2 + 3/4^3 + ... + 3/4^n 2/3 3/4^2 + ... + 3/4^n 5/12 1/4^2 + ... + 1/4^n 5/36 [1/16 - 1/4^(n+1)]/(3/4) 5/36 1/16 - 1/4^(n+1) 5/48 at this time ... no value of n will satisfy... 3/4^2 + 3/4^3 + ... + 3/4^n ... as n goes to infinity .. . . yields 1/4 adding the first value, 1/4 .. . .. . this adds up to at most 1/2 and thus will not yield the desired 2/3 level.
Q: I want to make my own herbal tinctures at home, such as echinacea and cayenne tinctures. I see presses vary in price, from around $40 to almost a thousand $. Does a $40 herb press do the job, this job being to be able to make a few quarts of tincture from one batch of herbs?
I have never heard of using a press for tinctures. I think of a press for expelling oils. Tinctures are liquid extracts using the herb and a medium like alcohol (grain alcohol or vodka), vinegar or glycerin. When I make tincture, I am usually using fresh leaves. I get enough leaves to fill the bottle. I run the leaves through the food processor and pack the bottle. Then I fill the bottle with the liquid. I use 90 proof vodka or grain alcohol with water 50/50. Vinegar I use straight. I have never tried glycerin for my homemade tinctures. I did make valerian tincture a long time ago. I used the powdered root and I forget the amount I used. You can use leaves, flowers, roots or the peppers, crush or chop and for dry ingredients fill your container halfway and then add the alcohol. I would spend my money on bottles, herbs or alcohol rather than a press. Good luck! Making a gallon would require a lot of herbs. Dry herbs would be equal to half a gallon of chopped herbs to a gallon of alcohol. Most tinctures need to age for around 6-8 weeks. Then you strain them out through a sieve and then a cheesecloth or tightly woven white towel. Then bottle. Remember, tinctures are strong medicines. Use them by drops or dilute before ingesting.
Q: What was the impact of the printing press?
well basically the main thing being printed was the bible, and it was written by hand, many times by monks.
Q: Can I use ground espresso in a French press coffee maker?Would this be too strong? Would it make a mess?
you can use it by all means... the main problem will be that the coffee will seem a bit muddy... espresso is ground very fine... so the filter on the Coffee pot will mean the Coffee is a bit muddy!
Q: What should an athletic 16 year old male about six foot three, that weighs about 160 pounds bench press.
75% of his weight this applies to all men below age 20
Q: For my product design I have decided to make a skateboard but this means I'm going to need to build a skateboard press to make the deck . I was just wondering ow long you think that this whole thing will take because I have got about 4-3 months on it I already know my plan of action and how I shall make it but if you know any easier way to make the press that would be less time consuming that would be very helpful ! :) so if you could just give me a rough estimate of how long you think it will take to make thank you
I'm assuming your deck is over 2 feet long but less than 3? The cheap presses they sell at Harbor Freight tools (12 and 20 tons respectively) would supply the necessary pressure, but would focus all the force near the center area, requiring dies that would transmit that pressure outward. Perhaps a better way would be to stand 2 of these presses next to each other about 16 to 20 inches apart and lay the die crosswise between the two tables, actuating both hydraulic jacks at the same time or alternating strokes to get even pressure. Making the dies might prove to be the tougher task.
Q: My brother has been pressing my nose and 2 me it looks wider I'm really upset.
You'd have to press a weight against your nose and strap it around your head for a long time and then stretch your nostrils sideways to make your nose look wide. If you give in to your fear you'll start believing it. If it's really getting wider it's because it's naturally wide, not because your envious brother is pressing it. Punch his nose in if he keeps doing it. If you want, take a photo of your face every week for a few weeks and compare.
