Q: ANy ideas?DOes anyone know how to fix it?
It sounds like an automatic alarm system. There should be a cooersponding red or green light on the dash, some spell out the word Theft. I don't think there's anything to fix. _____________________________ I stand corrected, then. No alarm system. How about automatic headlights? Do they go on with the ignition switch? Or, do you turn them on manually? If you have this option, then try switching off of automatic. If the headlights no longer flash, then the problem is in the headlight auto switch should be replaced. Some auto switches are located below the rearview mirror, others on the interior dimmer switch on the dash.
Q: They don‘t completely go out, but dim for a second then get bright again. Happens about once every 90seconds. Checked alternator - tested good one store bad at another. Can‘t see any obvious bad connects , contacts or grounds. ‘98 Ford Taurus. Suggestions?
1 bad battery [not holding voltage 2 bad connections 3 bad alternator
Q: a Ford mechanic said that i could have ran into a lightning burst near my car and it affected my electrical system. by the way, i am changing my alarm system since then. is this possible? does it also affect my HID headlights?
Dancing HID is a common problem. It mostly occurs when using cheap chinese kits from OKorder. One of the only things you can try to do, is use the relay kit designed to give a more constant power to the ballast when the bulb is switched on. Lightening had no effect on it, I assure you. I have installed hundreds of kits. Usually if the Dancing is bad enough, you can take your complaint to the manufacture of the bulb and they will swap it out. Good Luck!
Q: I left my gas cap off and someone told me this may have caused my check engine light to come on. Well I filled the tank and drove it a bit, but the light is still on. I drive a 99 chevy malibu. Is the light supposed to turn off or do I have to get it reset??
Hi, I am an auto technician. If your check engine light was a result of the gas cap being off, the light will remain on until the code is cleared, or a minimum of 40 engine warm up cycles. Not to sound pessimistic, but there is a possibility that the new gas cap could be faulty, if it is not a quality one. There are a lot of variables, too. Assuming this is an Evap (fuel vapor control) problem, the outside temperature plays a role. If the temperature is too low, (roughly 40*f) the computer will not test the system, which could mean your light will go out, only to come back on in warmer weather, if the problem remains unfixed. Fuel level is important, too. The computer will not test the system if the fuel level is too low (under about 25%) or too high (over 80%). As for clearing the code. Disconnecting the battery is NOT recommended, because this erases a LOT of valuable information, including your radio, of course. The fuses aren't really a good choice, either. Your car probably has several going to the computer, so it's a guessing game. The light should be turned off with a scan tool. But first make sure you find out what codes are stored. If the problem is in another system, some of the information needed to fix the car will be lost when the codes are cleared. Some parts stores can do this for you, but they do not have access to all of the codes that may be stored in your computer. Your best bet, I must say, is to find a reputable shop that specializes in driveability and diagnostics, and have them diagnose it, and explain your options. I would be interested to hear the outcome, if you don't mind. Good luck.
Q: airbag light stays on all of the time only if someone is sitting over there it goes out is it serious trouble?
nothing serious. its probably a faulty occupancy sensor see if your jeep is still under warranty
Q: ENGINE LIGHT ON AND WON‘T PASS EMISSIONS IT IS NOT IN THE MANUAL OR 20.00 BOOK I BOUGHT AT AUTO ZONE IT ‘S DIAGNOSTIC PRINTED OUT THIS MESSAGE OF A MALFUNCTION OF THIS PART??? HELP
That depends on which part of the system you need. The most common problem in that system it the secondary air injection pump. It is located under the vehicle kind of in a little corner between the frame rail and crossmember. Because they are under the truck, they tend to get dirt, debris, and moisture in them which causes them to go bad. Another common failure that we see where I work is people drive the vehicle through deep water and the pupm gets full of water and shorts out. Anyhow, there are other parts to the system, but that is the most common to fail.
Q: I have 2005 dodge ram 1500 and got stuck on snow after got undying I noticed my engine light on and now it won‘t go off help
Best to buy one of those engine plug in analyzers, $30 - $80. It will save you in the long run. Most often it's the O2 sensor going bad. Check to make sure the gas cap is on tight, may need a new one. If the O2 sensor has 4 wires, two of those will have the same color. These are the heater wires. They heat the sensor and then go off. If the heating element is burned out, it will cause the light to stay on. You can beat the system by connecting a turn signal light to these two wire. Best to try the analyzer first, and besides it's a good tool for other vehicles in the future.
Q: I have seen some comments about unplugging the battery, but I am not sure how to proceed.
Have you hit anything with the front bumper, like maybe a snow drift. It is possible that the problem is just a sensor connection. Make sure to remove the fuse for the air bag/SRS system before testing any components. Some auto parts stores can recover the code and tell you what the code stands for, and most will do it for free. I Do Not recommend disconnecting the battery. Yes, it will clear the code, but now you don't know where the problem is. When the battery is disconnected on some vehicles, it will set a check engine light for charging system malfunction. Hope this helps and good luck. Christopher
Q: Today my engine started making a hum - it sounds like one of the belts. Shortly after the check engine light came on. I ran a check and it says system running lean. I checked the gas cap and it was hardly on. I reset the system so the light is now off - it has not come back on. The sound from the engine continues. Do you think the sound from what presumably could be a belt and the system running lean code are related or coincidences? I have a 2006 Volvo S40.
well no since the code has not come up again.
Q: My car is running fine but the engine light came on one day.. I took it to advance auto for a free computer reading and it cam out with system or car running lean..I ask the guy he said it could be the O2 sensor? I don't have the money right now to take to a mechanic .. what could it be? and where are the O2 sensor locate in a 2001 ford escort zx2 ?. maybe I can change them.. Thanks
dont know much about a zx2 but o2 sensor is usually inside the throttle body, and if you don't really know what ya doing it's best you dont touch it so nothing else goes astray. A good mechanic will be able to say whether its your o2 sensor or something stopping the throttle body from working properly, and they can replace it for you. what you could do is see if any wires are loose on the sensor and see iff its shorting out anywhere, that could be giving th ecu bad readings. how lean is it running? if its not using too much fuel you dont have to let it worry you until you have the money to get it fixed. oi at the person below, I may be wrong but the o2 sensor has nothing to do with fuel, only measuring the volume of air comin g into the intake manifold controlled by your throttle bodyor that may be the map sensor lol. and the injectors are behind the throttle body and sensor, but correct me if im wrong, im only here to help
