- Q: I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 DVR Digital Cable box and yesterday when I arrived home, it was not showing the time or any evidence of power. The TV and DVD player work just fine, but not the box. I unplugged it, tried a different plug but no power. I hear the box working, but it never shows any sign of powering on. - are you sure there's not 1 power cord with six plugs on it? often the power cables will have connectors all the way down them.

- No need to leave it plug in all night. You can do it the simple way and shut it down for the night. As for myself, I put mine to sleep during the night (unplugged of course) and causes me no problems.. but if you are unsure on what to do, just shut it down during the night and no harm will be done.

- EIDE (Enhanced IDE) is no longer a standard on most computers which uses SATA. In turn, they also use different power connections. The channel cable is dependent on the mother board, but the power supply is dependent on the power box. If there is an IDE channel, but no power cable, you have only two options. 1. Buy a new SATA based drive. 2. But a new power supply. Buying a new power supply to replace the one you have is definitely a void of warranty. You are much better off with a new drive.

- many devices get power from usb. however the new hard disks, required higher current/power to run and it cannot be provided through single usb cable. hence you have to use two cables.

- What do you mean by power cable, it doesnt really matter, its in your case anyway and the 600W is enough to power most decent GPUs for a budget go for a AMD HD 6850/6870, a bit higher go for a GTX 560 TI or AMD HD 7870.
