Q:I have a couple of very expensive rugs that I need cleaned. Just dont want to trust them to anybody that may not know to do them right. Anybody know of a professional that does this
Go okorder ., to locate a certified carpet/upholstery cleaner in your part of the country. If they do not clean wool area rugs they may recommend someone who does. I hope they are not full of pet/dog urine. Some dogs will mark their territory on a wool rug as they sense another animal in the area. Being stupid, they mistake the wool scent for another dog instead of sheep. You can locate specialty wool cleaners in most large metropolitan cities.
Q:The problem with putting a rug on carpet is that the natural nap in the rug and the nap in the carpet work against each other. Makes bumps like you wouldn't believe (even if no one walks on it). Furniture on top of the rug makes it worse.Does anyone else have this problem and if so have you been able to fix it, or at least minimize the bumps on the rug?
Dawn is right.. The special rug to carpet under layment ( its not really a pad). Its thin and feels tacky but leaves no residue. These underlayments are real thin and will pick up dirt naturally and loose their tackiness but you can toss them in the washer and they come back to work again. Some one will tell you to get the shelf liner material, this is not the same stuff and can leave marks.
Q:I'm on a tight budget, so I can't afford an area rug. But I'd like one in a half-moon shape with my bed on top. Would there be any problems making a sort of decorative-rug out of fabric from someplace like Jo-annes? Just sew and go, right? And if there's not some glaring oversight I'm missing in that idea, what sort of fabric? Upholstery? Outdoors? Quilting?
I've seen rugs quilts made from strips of material I think they are gorgeous totally different than everything else that's on the market today! Someone has used a bit of initiative thought of a different item to decorate the home. Before I got married my intended wife were on a tight budget between us we made a woollen rug from wool - It was a dusty job for a sensitive nose, but got there in the end it adorned our home for many years it was my pride joy for making it I'm a bloke! If you can make a fabric rug in much the same manner as i did looping the fabric within itself, as I did with the wool, you will be able to make a lovely rug I'm sure! Cheers!
Q:How do I fix this? Vacuuming only helps a little. The carpet is mushed from being stepped on all year in some areas, and other areas it looks like it did when we bought it. This makes the mushed area very noticeable. It is a lighter color than the carpet was originally.
You are describing polyester carpet, made from recycled plastic bottles, the squishing effect is permanent. When you replace it, ask for Nylon carpeting. Nylon is the best in the business next to Wool. Also, do not ever administer any so called carpet freshening powders to your carpet, as they are a rip off. Do not use any toy (Bissel or Hoover) carpet cleaners on your new carpet, as they are famous for leaving sticky soap residue in the carpet fibers that will attract dirt/soil like a magnet. This soap residue may also be responsible for allowing the carpet fibers to pack down.
Q:My grandmother just purchased a new rug to replace her old carpet. It moves very easily so it was recommended that she buy rug padding and attach it to the floor under the rug. She's worried that it will need to be stapled to the floor and in the event that the rug needs to be lifted/moved in a hurry she wont be able to move the padding, and it could get damaged. So my question, more specificially: Is there another way to apply the padding under the rug without permanently securing it (ie: staples)? Or is there a special rug padding that doesn't need to be stapled? And in your opinion, will this alternative way make the rug just as immovable? Thanks!
You have 2 options: You can buy either a special non-slip mat/material or a double sided carpet tape. Both will prevent a rug from slipping and can be found at most hardware / building supply or most anywhere that sells rugs and carpeting [Bed, Bath Beyond, etc.] The mat material is rubber-like and grips the flooring of it's own accord [it's the same stuff as the rubber type shelf liner material] Padding is used beneath wall to wall carpeting.
Q:Does anyone know where I can find cheap or free instructions to make rag rugs. I have already done a crochet rug and I would like to move up a step.

Q:Right now, I have wood flooring in my house built in the 1930s. Is there a chance that there could be carpet under the original hardwood flooring?
When using your carpets on the ground, use rug pillows. There is no query that a rug pad extends the life of your rug. In most situations, the best is nasty froth that will not move shade to the rug or to the ground and will provide good use security. Do not use a rubberized, jute or waffle pad. An asian rug or a handmade rug is best to use on the hardwood flooring.
Q:I've read you shouldn't put them on hardwood because it doesn't allow the wood to breath or something along those lines. Secondly, if you use a rug without the rubber backing do you have to use a pad so it doesn't slide and scratch the floor? Thanks
This Site Might Help You. RE: Rubber backed rugs on hardwood floors - Is this allowed? I've read you shouldn't put them on hardwood because it doesn't allow the wood to breath or something along those lines. Secondly, if you use a rug without the rubber backing do you have to use a pad so it doesn't slide and scratch the floor? Thanks
Q:I collect HAND MADE wool, silk, and cotton Carpets / Area Rugs from Iran (Persian Rugs like Qum silk prayer rugs that I display as a wall tapistry, plus floor rugs like Tabriz Kermanshah), Pakistan (Bukkhara)...so my question is what are the classical Turkish HAND MADE CARPETS callled (please no cheap Belgium machine made crap) and I've heards that they are sold at Instanbul's Old Bazzar (if I'm saying it right, and provide info on how to bargain with vendor)...please give description by NAME (generally carpets know by city/village), PATTERN (ex geometric, medallion in center), and COLORS if possible, thanksp.s. in the event I'm most likely to get Trolled at, YES I did say Persian Qum silk PRAYER rug, but NO I don't pray on it I'm not Muslim, it's just a breathtaking piece of art

Q:I'm getting new carpet installed in a home I'm selling. It's not a high end home, just a 1700 sq foot house that I'll list for $400k. The carpet the carpetman recommended to me is a shaw 18 oz face weight, 48 total weight carpet. To go along with it is 7/16quot; 6lb padding. Is this good enough? Will it look and feel nice enough for the people who come to see the house?
