Q:bought a hookah to celebrate turning 19, and my cat knocked over the hookah while we were smoking. Lets just say there is a nickle sized burn in the carpet. Is there ANYTHING I can do? My bf is being a jerk and told me I need to sell my hookah now since it burned the carpet (he doesn't want it in the house anymore), and I'm extremely irritated because it is mine. I am so glad I wasted money on the thing that I am now not allowed to use.-It is not illegal. I smoke legal shisha out of it.-we are renting the house from his parents, and are looking for the least damaging way to cover or fix it. I have no problem explaining this to his parents, but would like to fix it if possible.: Cut out the burnt section and glue in a piece of scrap carpet! Go to a carpet store and get a carpet repair tool. They're only a few bucks. Some adhesive disks and carpet glue. Now take your cutting tool and cut out the damaged section. Be careful to not cut through the carpet fibers themselves. Next cut a replacement section from the donor carpet also being careful not to cut the carpet fibers. Next you will peel off the cover on the adhesive disk and place it in the empty hole. Now put some glue around the edge of the hole and insert your patch trying to match the grain of the carpet. (Carpet has a distinct grain). Press the patch firmly into place and put a weight on top of the area. Let it dry at least twenty four hours before putting the carpet to use.

Q:I was thinking of making a rug for my dorm room out of carpet squares - does anyone know of any way to:a) connect the squaresb) where to get (nice looking) carpet squares?Thanks so much!: If you entirely cover the floor with carpet squares, you shouldn't have to connect them, they should stay in place by them-self, as long as they are snug. If you like you could staple the corners of the squares to keep them in place. It you have a Restore, Habitat For Humanity store you might be able to get them there and it would cheaper than buying new ones. Otherwise you could try Home Depot or a carpet store.

Why not rent a Rug Doctor and clean the one you have. No point getting a new one until you're mature and responsible enough not to spill makeup, Coke, and nail polish in your room.

Q:Im have these sheets with a solid comforter i like this rug a lot but does it match the sheets? please help: Very nice sheets, but the rug-link isn't there. The pattern on the sheets is so bold that I would be very hesitant to use pattern elsewhere in the room. I'd go with bold color in the room, maybe a pale cool pink on the walls, some throw pillows in cool pink magenta orange, and a small bright orange scatter rug on the floor beside the bed. Each pattern has it's own voice, and these sheets are lively and bold and have a strong voice. Too much pattern is like the difference between having one child in the room with you and working in a daycare. Bedrooms shouldn't be too visually distracting, seeing as we hope to fall asleep there.

Q:Water from a faulty air conditioner dripped onto a small area of the fitted carpet in our bedroom. The patch is no longer wet, perhaps slightly damp, but the smell is horrible. Any advice please. Changing the carpet is not an option.: If you have a carpet cleaner (or can borrow or rent one) I would do it. There are special carpet cleaners that are heavy duty and for mold/mildew/pets and will get rid of most smells. We had some flooding in a carpeted room, and it took a couple of cleanings, but you can't smell anything funky any longer. We used regular cleaner the first time and the heavy duty stuff the second time. As a temporary solution, you could out some baking soda on the carpet, leave a day or so and vacuum it up. But, if the smell is in the carpet pad, it won't do much.
