- Q:I'm putting suspended ceiling in my basement (using Armstrong tiles). Unfortunately, on one of the walls, the level of the ceiling has to be above the top level of the wall framing (it's a long story involving a structural beam, some heating vents and a window), so there are no studs behind the drywall where I need to attach the wall molding. Would molly bolts or something like that be able to support the weight of the suspended ceiling, should I try to cut some wood to fit and block in behind the drywall, or is there something else that I should do?
- Just cut a pc. of wood and hold it behind the drywall while you run a drywall screw through the wall mold/drywall and into the wood block. Install the longest pc. of wood you can fit up and in behind the drywall. If you glue it on you will probably get the glue all over you, the wall mold and the drywall + do you really want to be waiting for that glue to dry. Keep your hand out of the way of the screw. You can predrill the holes in the wall mold so your drywall screws will go right in the hole and into the drywall and wood block. If you need any advice on installing the grid ceiling just ask. Some helpful hints can make your job easier. I would need the room dimensions and also are you installing 2'x4' tile or 2'x2' tile? There are some nice looking 2'x2' tiles that are flexible. The 2'x2' tiles are a little easier to install if you have close clearance above the grid work. Good Luck
- Q:I currently have gold fiberglass, paperbacked insulation under my first floor/ on basement ceiling. (Between the joists of course) I was considering replacing it with rigid styrofoam board (blue or pink) insulation for a cleaner more attractive appearance that can even be painted. i realize this wouldnt be cheap and there would be a lot of cutting involved, and then a lot of sealing up gaps with foam spray and such. I was wondering how good the insulating properties would be as well as the sound insulation properties. Could the styrofoam insulation perform better than the fiberglass bats i have now? I'm also not sure what thickness I would need to do the duties of the fiberglass. The fiberglass is about 6 thick. What are the potential positives or negatives i could gain from the installation?
- Don't do it. Exposed foam is a fire hazard, and as an insulation, it's far more expensive. I bet drywall is more sound-deadening, too, just because it's more dense. I'm not sure I can see any potential positives to this proposed project, and I'm sure it violates safety standards and building codes.
- Q:what should I charge to install 1500 sq feet of drop ceiling
- um .......YES! the best movie I ever watched was me and my ex BF. we were way better than any professional pron stars, and there was not stupid plot or bad acting, cause it was the real thing. so having a mirror would be well.....just absolutely fabulous. me and my current BF have set up a large mirror within view of the bed. Hee Hee Hee WTF is up with all the people who fear something falling on them? Do they not have ceiling fans/chandeliers where they live? These are probably the same people who run for cover when someone yells that the sky is falling.
- Q:I have a manufactured home and trying to finish the basement. I am stuck on how to install a ceiling being there are steel beams instead of wood therefor nothing to attach a grid to. Any ideas or anybody ever done this before?
- you could buy screws with a drill point and a hex head.attach with these to the metal beams drop down enough to clear obstacles support grid with wire hung from screws
- Q:anyone know how to put up something called ceiling max its like a drop ceiling that is a inch from ceiling?
- Great Link MM, but I don't see anything in the text that suggests the FREE space above all the grid work and tiles. Beyond that the text deals with a basement, and/or an area of exposed rafters. Normal drop ceiling requires a drop in the area of 8 inches minimum. I'd be doing Ceiling Max to cover damaged ceilings if I could get to within and inch or 2 of the old. The process, as explained is no different than normal grid install for a drop ceiling. I'll do more research however. The Q nudged an issue I have in a home, and I do drop ceilings with my Son often, commercially.
- Q:What is the light steel keel double gypsum board partition wall
- National Standard Atlas 03J111-1 (light steel keel wall) Free to see this Atlas it, the main content is: light steel keel gypsum board light wall practice.
- Q:GB keel, ordinary dragon brand gypsum board 9.5mm
- Of course, the surface is high
- Q:I am in the process of finishing a basement ceiling. I would prefer to use drywall (I like the look, and I have a lot of sheets of drywall already) but I want to be able to access above the ceiling if I ever need to run wires or anything. Could I install a drop ceiling grid, and then cut drywall panels 2'x4', prime and paint them, and use them in the drop ceiling? It would save me from having to buy drop ceiling panels. My main concern is the weight - I think it would be substantially heavier than normal drop ceiling panels.
- As a professional let me give you some info. Cutting sheetrock into perfect squares and exactly the same size consistently is a real challenge for anyone. Not to mention the waste factor. You can easily chip corners or break an edge, not to mention you'll have unfinished edges that will spill sheetrock dust into the air. You can actually buy tiles out of a sheerock product and save valuable time and money plus the edges will be safe for your family. On another note you can just sheetrock the ceiling and install a few access doors below valves and things if that's your concern. BTW I like the sheetrock look too. Good Luck
