- When does the clunk occur? EDIT: Alright, well that could be a few things. It kind of sounds to me like bad hub bearings. Get your tires off the ground and wiggle them up and down (not back and forth unless you wanted to check for bad ball joints). If there is play, then you will need a new hub assembly on that side. The other things I would check for are bad engine and transmission mounts, and the drive shaft-to pinion flange bolts to be sure they are not loose.
