- I say couch, but there is a difference between the two! A couch is very similar to a sofa. Derived from Middle French, couche, a couch is an article of furniture for sitting or reclining. Sofa, taken from the Arabic suffah, is a long upholstered seat usually with arms and a back.

- I did extensive reading about this kind of behavior in cats before litter training my cat so that I would get it right the first time. I only have one cat but I read about others with more than one and had this problem. One person was on a cat forum for weeks trying to solve the same problem and it turned out that her cats each needed their own litter tray/box, and it needed to be cleaned almost after every use, or asap. The fact is that cats are extremely clean animals and they will sniff for where their own smell is and poop there, then cover it up. So the answer is: the cat the pooped on your sofa is the one that smelled the other cats' smell in the litter box and didn't want to go there, or who was fussy about his or her own litter box being full. Once you get it so that each cat is sure of his or her own litter box and are cleaning it up after each use or as soon as you get home from work, etc., you'll never have a problem again.

- Q: how do you remove felt tip pen from leather sofas?
- Unfortunately you will have re-dyed the leather and so there is nothing on the DIY basis that will remove this. It will need a solvent to remove the marker and this will also remove the finish and pigment from your sofa (if it is a pigmented suite) which will then need replacing. This is best left to the experts. Call a trained leather technician to do the work. If it is an aniline style leather then the mark will be permanent and only time will help as it will dissipate and blend in slowly. Baby wipes will damage your leather so please do not try this. Hairspray sometimes works on pigmented leather but can also make matters much worse.
- Q: I have a loveseat that accidently got a slit cut in it. It is made not of actual leather but that kind of material that resembles it. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
- You can go to JoAnn Fabrics or your local hardware store. The store should have a vinyl and leather repair kit. This kit contains small vials of color that you will mix together to match your sofa. Then there is a little tool that gets heated and melts the color and you fill it in the slit. Well -- read the instructions carefully so you don't miss a step. if you take your time, you should be able to repair the cut so it won't even be visible. I also use this on car dash boards and vinyl seats. If you're not sure about this, get a couple of trial pieces and practice a little bit before you go for broke. Oh and if you need a small patch, you can turn the couch upside down and carefully loosen the dust cover on the bottom. Hanging over the sides should be a couple of inches of excess material that you might be able to clip.

- Q: I have a down feather filled sofa and feathers keep coming out. I am finding them all over the sofa and the people sitting on it. Is there any way of stopping this?
- interesting. Feathers aren't usually used for sofas because they compact so much, they don't offer good support/structure. Well- the only solution I know of, is making your own liner. You would have to open the cushions, and If there IS a liner in there already, take it out, and basically make a pillowcase around with with another fabric that will hold in the feathers. (you need a VERY tight weave so they don't come through- check your fabric shop for recommendations near you). If there is no liner in there (loose feathers when you open the zippered cushions) well, that's you're problem. You need to measure and custom sew a liner for it, and put all the feathers inside that. Then you would re-put on the real outer cover to your cushions. If the actual SOFA part (not just additional cushions) has feathers coming out, unless you're very handy, I'd get quotes on getting the whole thing reupholstered. Good Luck.
