- Q: I live with my husband and our toddler son in a decent sized three bedroom apartment, but I am having a little problem...our carpet is looking very sad. It is smushed down in higher traffic areas and I am not sure how to revive it. I vacuum regularly, and I also clean it monthly with my upright shampooer, but it isn't really helping. Any suggestions?
- Rentals use inexpensive carpet and once it's matted down, it's on it's last leg. If you're shampooing and vacuuming regularly that's all you can do. Put a nice runner over the smushed areas. Spend the $150 on something nice you can take when you move.
- Q: I need to use the carpet cleaner machine, but do not want to purchase the solution. Does anyone know of a home solution that I can use with the many, many cleaning supplies I have in my home?
- You really should pay the little more for the proper chemicals. Although they do overcharge for Rug Doctor. A janitorial supply will usually be cheaper. Professional chemicals are usually more concentrated so work out cheaper. You might consider renting from an equipment rental rather than at the grocery store. For one thing the machine will have been maintained. Many of those at the grocery store do not work properly requiring a trip back to exchange it. I owned a janitor service for 20 yr. and a janitorial supply for several years after that. Repaired many Rug Doctors from the local stores. People don't clean them out before returning. Regular rental places take care of their equipment.
- Q: Is there a way to bleach my carpet? Not to get a stain out or anything. But my carpet is a bache color, and I would like to make it white.Would putting bleach on it make it brighter?
- rent a carpet shampoo machine, mix a 10 -1 ration of water to bleach and give it a go, keep all windows open , then use a wet/dry vac to soak up any remaining water from the Carpet
- Q: I have light carpets (builder special!) and a 2 yr. old and a 4 yr. old. I keep them clean (the carpets and the kids!), but hate to pay for the professional carpet cleaners all that often. I often use Woolite OXY Clean, but I just keep finding more spots. Seems a daily battle. Does anyone know a quot;home remedyquot; I can use to spot remove? I have tried Oxy Clean, and even tho my carpet it light it has bleached some places.
- Carpet cleaning is sometimes more trouble than it is worth. A very good vacuum cleaner is always the best first line of defense. If your carpet has not been treated with a product like Scotch guard then look into this first. The site below is worth the time to go over the material:
- Q: We've lived in our house for almost two years and have the most annoying rug in the living room. It sheds constantly and it's like having a pet! I'm getting really sick of it as don't like putting my baby son down on the floor to play as he ends up covered in white fibres and if they get on his hands, they're in his mouth! No amount of vacuuming seems to help. I'm thinking about getting a new rug, but worried about spending a fortune only to have the same problem again! Does anyone know any types of rug that won't shed? I've read that wool ones are the worst... any general rug advice appreciated!!!
- Synthetics like nylon and polyester do not shed. If you look for a rug or carpet that has a long period of wear warranty, that is likely the kind that doesn't shed. That type of rug may have other issues, like less resiliency, but if shedding is the concern, go for synthetic.
- Q: I need a purple or black rug for my room. not a huge one but just for the side of my bed. I have been searching all over the place for one. price range uo to 30$ . Thank you and the best site with the cheapist price WILL be rewarded 10 pnts.
- wal-mart has are rugs on sale right now for 24.88 so go to your local wal-mart and get one... they have all colors!
- Q: Is the Circo Flower Rug - 48x70 from target dry clean only, or can you put it into the washing machine maybe like on permanent press or a special cycle like that?
- I wouldn't put it in a regular washer because you will damage both. You can use one at the laundry mat. But on gentle, and cold water.
- Q: How can I convince my parents to get carpet installed in my room? Our whole house is wood flooring. But the floor gets too cold for me. they dont want it because our dogs sometimes, quot;don't go outsidequot; and it ruins the carpet. But lately they haven't done it in my room. They also dont want it because it costs hundreds. Any ways I can earn money for it? Thanks!
- you could tell them the advantages of having a carpet in your room, and you told us that you'll be the one to gather money for it so your parents might agree with that. you can always lock your room so that the dogs cannot enter or whatever, just make sure you have the key. hope you can have your carpet.
- Q: Alright , so we forgot and left the portable heater on the carpet and overnight it caught fire and burnt the carpet, its a pretty huge area.. Any idea's of how to make it less visible or even patch it ?Thankks MUCHHH .
- yes, a carpet installer can patch it if there can be found a piece of carpet that closely matches it.if you can get it at a carpet store that would be the best, otherwise you can take a piece out of a bedroom closet or somewhere it won't be as noticeable.you can do it yourself but it is very complicated to explain on here.basically it is like a patch.
- Q: So my carpet (40 year's of age) was torn out my bedroom this morning. And what do ya knw!! there was a beatiful hardwood floor underneath. I saw all the stains/mold on the carpet and whatnot. Before I had trobule breathing and would wake up with a headace every morning becuase of the smell. However, I can notice a slight difference in smell but not a drastic Now, I can't decide if I should get a new carpet or just live with the hardwood floor that's already there. . I still have to sweep the dust and mop. Getting a brand new carpet is expensive. But with a hardwood floor in the winter it can be a little uncomterable. Any idea's??
- Depends on what the hardwood looks like. You can always get a rug to cover up part of the floor you walk on so it is not so cold. If you want a new carpet I would suggest ripping up the hardwood if you know the sub floor is good. If you had mildew and mold it means you had moisture problem probably which could also caused mildew a mold in the hardwood. If you purchase a good quality pad with a new carpet it will take care of the moisture.
