- Q: The other day I just found out that I had a hand-made rug that was made in Iran and bought by my grandparents about 10-15 years ago, the rug is about 6x8 and they paid around $2000 dollars for it.My question is what is the proper way to clean a rug that is hand-made? It has not been cleaned in years only vacuumed... and also is there a market place for these rugs? if I do decide I want to sell it.
- Most large cities have companies that specialize in oriental rug cleaning, maybe you are near one of these. I would suggest having it professionally cleaned every few years so that it will be less attractive to carpet beetles and clothes moths.
- Q: For all carpet experts....I accidentally spilled bleach on a small section of carpet in my apartment. I cut out the affected area and tried to patch it with a piece from the closet but the colors dont match. How does the carpet dying process work? I called several places and they suggested I do it myself since they no longer do that sort of work.
- Try cleaning with Oxy carpet cleaner by Woolite. Wife spilled beet juice on our new lt. beige berber, blotted up most of the juice, then nuetralized the rest with the ozyclean...can't see the difference, or use Rit dye in a similar color to the original.
- Q: How to remove laundry detergent from rug?

- Q: I have carpet in the backyard and my dogs have urinated on it badly an i was wondering if i put very little bleach in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the carpet would it change the color of the carpet?
- Yes, it will change the color of the carpet. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and saturate the carpet. I'm assuming it gets enough sunlight to dry in a few hours. Since it's in the back yard (and I'm wondering about this like the first answer), I think I would be inclined to use laundry soap and the water hose to clean it and then spray it down good with the vinegar.
- Q: I recently took out the carpet in my apartment. Between the carpet and the mat under that, there were thin, wispy strands off fiber-like material and quite a lot of it. Is this asbestos? Or is it normally used under carpets. Also, if it is asbestos, is my health in danger?
- well, that must be some sort of carpet padding, but i suppose it depends how long ago the carpet was installed. there was a time when they used asbestos to insulate like everything. so, if the carpet was installed after the mid 80's my guess is it's not, but if it was installed before then there is a good chance it is. if it is in fact asbestos, get it out of there, that S%^ will give you cancer, or something, it's terrible for the lungs.
- Q: i spilled crazy glue on my carpet on accident. how do i remove it thanks inadvance
- i don't believe there is a solvent for crazy glue. you may try ice to freeze it then clip at it with fingernail clippers so as to not take out to much at a time. good luck
- Q: Refreshing my memory been a while so wondering how to lay carpet with a seam. Don't have enough carpet so have some extra carpet that looks the same that I need to use so wanting to lay the carpet with a seam so all the carpet will look as one.
- Practice - practice - practice First, the carpet pieces all need the fibers going in the same direction....if you can't do that, it won't matter how skilled you are at seaming a carpet, the piles running different dirctions will stand out. Clean cuts - you need a clean cut along the seam, on BOTH pieces to get them to look good when they are joined. Two kinds of tape - adhesive, and 'carpet' tape (which needs a seaming iron). BEFORE the carpet is stretched for the room, the adjacent pieces of carpet need to be joined. This involves making a straight, clean cut on both edges - this cut should match identically. I achieve this by overlapping the two pieces, and using a straight edge, cut through both layers at once. (You need a VERY sharp blade). Next, apply the seaming tape to the underside of the carpet. I prefer to use the professional grade carpet tape, and I own all the necessary carpet tools to do this. If you do not own them, they can be rented from a local business that rents tools and equipment. I wouldnt make the investment in tools for one room of carpet. If you are using carpet tape, cut it to fit the length of the seam (actually allow it to extend beyond the ends of the seam, for a couple of inches) Plug in the seaming iron, allow it to heat up, and then place it UNDER the carpet, but ON the tape. As the seaming iron heats up the tape, slide it along the length of the seam, pulling the carpet edges together behind it, and press them firmly into the tape. (A roller is handy for this) Do NOT overlap the edges, do NOT allow them to pucker...this is why a good clean cut is so important. Allow the tape to cool, and then you can stretch the carpet and trim it out. Have Fun
- Q: we bought several new throw-rugs to protect carpets at door-ways. They were folded in half on a pile in the store. It has been impossible to remove that crease, which as the traffic goes on it bunches up in the middle even worse. Any ideas on how to get out these creases where the fold was? Have washed, weighted down, turned over, hung up.....can't seem to prevail! Need advise on how to get rid of these creases. Will never buy a folded rug again.
- I have no idea if this will work or if it was part of what you have already done. But what if you washed it or at least got it very wet, then hung it on a clothes line (maybe you can rig something up in the shower) with weights on it? Your line would need to be pretty taut but it might be worth a try. I never thought about creases in rugs but I have several in the garage that are now bent so it's something I will likely need to figure out at some point ... or toss the rugs when I move.
- Q: I mean, he can sleep on the couch, on his bed, on our beds, even the pillow pet is softer than the carpets! He prefers sleeping on entrance mats, the carpet in front of my fridge, the carpet in front of my stove and on the carpet under my bed. It's cute, but weird.
- maybe he likes the feel of the carpet haha
- Q: How to make a throw rug?
- You okorder /... The main page has a lot of different links to instructions for specific rug styles. Hope this helps.
