- Q: I bought a new rust color (redddidh orange) sofa set for my yellow (not very dark and not too light) colour painted living room. Should I put chair backs ( laced piece of cloth at the headrest) and arm rests or should I put some square cushions on it. Also please suggest the colors that would look good.
- I'm really impressed with your colour selection --- so many people are afraid of it these days...ultra modern, however, if you put lace on the new sofas, you've just set its style back a few decades or so (and not in a good way). Cushions all the way...a pattern would be nice. Bring the yellow into the cushion, a little more vibrant than the shade on your wall.
- Q: A friend has offered me a sofa - can't take it with her on a move. It is only a year old and very nice. BUT, she has 6 dogs. And all the problems that come with that. They have had mites, fleas, I am sure they have probably peed on the sofa, etc. I am wondering if there is anything you can use on a leather sofa - either store bought or made-at-home that I can use to clean and disinfect the leather. - Firstly, I would thoroughly vacuum the sofa under the cushions, underneath, on all the fabric areas, checking for obvious stains, etc - if there are any, I would sponge clean those and let the sofa air out for a few hours. The vacuuming and airing should deal with any flea eggs, etc if you are thorough enough. If you notice any urine odor, there are products to treat that, in the pet aisle or specialist pet store. Next, I would get a dishrag, using soapy water and wring it out well, wipe over all leather parts and dry, to remove dirt, then use leather cleaner to condition and protect the sofa. I clean my leather sofas with leather cleaner that is from the automotive dept. It is liquid that you apply with a cloth and then buff off with a dry duster. The sofa should be as good as new and last for years.

- Keep it until you can afford another one. Then, either sell it or give it away. A decent sofa of any kind should not be wasted, and someone will enjoy it. In the mean time, if you are very embarrassed, put a cotton, hemp, or synthetic throw over it. You can either use a large, decorative blanket, or get a cover specifically made for sofas. If you explain that you bought the couch before you went veg, your vegetarian friends will not criticize you. We all have remnants of our pre-veg lives, and most of us recognize that throwing out perfectly usable items is a bad idea. By eliminating meat from your diet, you are making a choice more important than any furniture choice. If you eliminated eggs and dairy, it would be even better. More animals die every year from the meat, egg, and dairy industries than from leather, fur, and animal testing combined. Though we should obviously seek to eliminate all of these things, what is needed most critically is more vegans.

- After 5 years it will be difficult to retrain her. If that is the way your mom really wants it, try to retrain her she's worth it ,right ? we all have bad habits. Patience is the key. Have you ever known anyone who quit smoking? or say developed diabetes and had to relearn how to eat ! It is really hard. I was watching a talk show, Dr Phil or Oprah who had a guest psychologist, she stated, It takes 21 days to change a habit. I don't know if that is true with dogs, but hey give it a try, it's just a little time consuming. And if you love someone (even a dog) sounds like she's worth it. Decide on a reprimand to use, clapping of hands, one word command, NO: DOWN: BAD: reinforce, follow thru with a new idea, on the floor, in a new area, or put her a small childs' chair, Ottoman or just her bed, something similar,she has always been on a higher level, close to someone, so she still needs that comfort and/or attention.

- plywood, 3/4 inch. or if you are too poor for that, anything you can stuff under there. I wanted to make some permanent couches out of trees. My wife bought some for $3000 instead. Mine would have cost like $200 for cushions and would have been nicer. You can get them in the trash too, or from thrift stores for like $50 sometimes. A roommate and noticed a nice one in the trash once and we exchanged it with ours.

- I know several people who have them, and they are very happy with them. They are made from leather, so they will have all of the same great qualities, just more seams to be aware of. - I have had both in the past, and once again. The sofa bed mattress is an air mattress, which should sleep more comfortably. My son uses the futon, and sees to have no issues with it. My mother has used the sofa bed, and the first one, she honestly didn't care for. I have learned to sleep on both, and actually prefer the futon. Our futon is double mattress . One mattress is the typical futon mattress, and the other has springs - also a futon mattress. We use that one on the bottom.. It may depend on your family members ages. Have you given thought to a day bed. That uses a regular mattress, and it can be a trundle, which means double space. One mattress hides beneath the other. There are many different styles of frames for these. Check them out!

- im not sure what 'a little sofa thing' is lol. look at the room from the entrance. if it looks cluttered, then its too much. if it does not look cluttered and there is plenty of room to walk around, im sure it is fine. you can never have too much seating if the space is available.
