- Q: I understand that telephone splice connectors are designed to splice 2 or more phone lines. But can they be used to splice speaker wires? If so, would it make a good connection?
- Yes, they would make and maintain a good connection, but don't expect to run a lot of power (over 30 watts). This could eventually cause the connection to fail. These connectors are fine for small signals, as they were designed for. If you must use connectors for speaker wires, and cannot come up with a solid piece, by all means, use yellow electrical wire nuts as they will provide more dependable service than a tiny 3M connector meant for solid # 28 AWG. - Q: I purchased a new horn to install on my 1996 Honda Civic. The first step is to Cut the existing connector off the wire running to the horn and install a female blade connector to the wire. How do you install the connector on the wire? I see where the blade part plugs into the horn mechanism, but the other end is a flat O shape. Do I stick the wire through it and crimp it somehow or do I need to solder? (I hope not since I don't have a soldering gun.) Unfortunately the directions have no pictures of how the car wiring attaches to the connector :( Thanks for any info.
- the o shape wire is the ground wire for the horn. you need a connector with the blade part on it and the other end is cylindrical so the wire goes in it and then crimp it on

You should be able to feel a slight vibration when the hard drive spins up. If there any indicator light on the hard drive enclosure that lights up? Did you try it with another computer? If it does not work return it.

- Q: I destroyed the spade connector pulling off the bad heating element. Now I have to put one back on and dont know if I can just solder one on or do I need to braze it on? Since the spade connector and wire will end up being buried the the insulation behind the rear of the oven I'm thinking solder would be ok, but not sure of the type to use. - Mark, conventional solder will melt at the temperature of the oven element. I have the same problem with a two burner stove top. The spade connector was spot-welded on, and separated. The end of the element was not smooth enough to clamp a high temperature spade lug on it from the appliance parts store, and I don't have a spot welder. Brazing with a torch would be much better, but I don't know about the electrical conductivity of a braze weld. Around here, we use coat hanger wire, it makes a great braze, works well on radiators, but with all my electrical experience I don't know about the electrical conductivity of the repair. My vote for a solder joint would be silver solder, it melts at a higher temperature, and silver is a good conductor. Better call a local electrical repair company (electrical contractor), and ask to speak to the owner, they will always talk to you. This is not a repair job he would ever get, so he may help you out of the kindness of his heart, it happens in my town. I'm good, but he is better, try to get some help from him, and be sure to tell him the two options I gave you.

- Check your connectors CAREFULLY. There is probably a 8-pin connector that breaks apart (it just slides apart) to make (2) 4-pin connectors. It would be unusual to see a power supply that has an 8-pin connector but no 4-pin connector. The usual configuration is a 4+4 connector that you can slide apart if you need to.
- Q: I am installing a new cd player in my '86 Toyota Pickup. The cd player has smaller gauge wires 18-22 gauge that need to be connected to a wiring harness that has 16 gauge wires. I was going to use butt connectors but the handful that came with the install package only have connectors that fit only 18-22 OR 14-16 gauge wires. - You can use those butt connectors that came with the package.They will work with 16 gauge on one end and 18 on the other end.
- Q: I was looking on the market for a 9800 GT and most of the ones I saw required 2 6 Pin PCI connectors. I saw one 9800 at a local Best Buy and the recommended power supply was only 350 watt. How do they expect you to have a power supply like that with two 6 Pin PCI connectors? I have a BFG 450 watt psu and it only came with one connector. So my question is, is there any way I can hook up another 6 Pin from my power supply to the graphics cardare there any kind of adapters out there? I would appreciate some help.
