- Q: Rugs get little traffic in 2 of 3 bedrooms. Very thick plush Carpet One type carpeting. Any suggestions?
- Your carpeting is stretching which causes the wrinkles you described. Most often this is due to improper installation. Many installers just rough cut a piece of carpet, bring it in to the room, unroll it, trim it and use a tool to kick in the carpet under the baseboard and onto the tack strips. The proper way to do it is to use something called a power stretcher which stretches the carpet from one wall to the opposing wall. Go back to the people you bought it from and see if they can get the original installer to make it right. Most carpet stores send installers a lot of business and have a fair amount of influence over them. If they refuse or the installers refuse make sure you let them know your dissatisfaction and report them to the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully you won't have to pay for this yourself or take things that far.
- Q: Installer told me floors need conditioning and rugs may leave marks due to the sun.

- Q: my carpet smells like cat pee, but i know my cat doesnt pee on my floor. My family is the original owners of our house and she is the only cat that has been in this house. how would i get the smell out of my carpet and if for some reason she is peeing on the carpet how would i get her to stop? also i thought it could be the smell of dust but i vacuum, how would i get my carpet to stop smelling?
- Clean the carpet with White Vinegar to remove the urine smell. The smell of the vinegar will take 2-3 hours to go away. Or at the pet shop, get a black light which will show you where the urine spots are on the carpet. Then use enzyme cleaner, also found at the pet shop,to clean the carpet. White vinegar costs about $2. while the enzyme cleaner costs around $15. If the cat isn't fixed this will cause the cat to pee on the floor/carpet elsewhere. So get the cat fixed if not yet done. A unirary tract infection will also cause the cat to lose control to pee on the carpet. If the cat is stressed it will pee on the carpet.

- Carpet cleaner and then add boiling water. After this, make sure you scrub really really hard and make certain that the carpet is completely dry, use a hair drier if you have to, because you don't want mold under the carpet. This should remove it, it removes most carpet spills except things like ink.

- It is REALLY expensive to have done. I would make sure the value of the rug will warrant such an expense.
- Q: What is the difference between floor mats and carpets?

- Q: Does anyone have a good recommendation for carpeting with someone who has a lot of pets? I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and want to get carpet in my home but not sure if it's best to get berber or shag or plush..... sigh, so many carpet choices! I currently have hardwood flooring but I'd prefer carpeting. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you.
- Plush carpets are more comfortable but a berber will stand up to heavy traffic and abuse better. The other things you want to consider is color and texture. The more texture, the better it will hide traffic wear. Try to find something with multi color flecks, it will help to hide stains. No matter what carpet you choose pets can cause a lot of damage to it. Especially if they track in dirt and mud or if they pee or vomit on the carpet. Since you already have hardwood floors you might want to buy carpet and have it turned into an area rug. The flooring store where you buy it should be able to arrange for the carpet to be bound ( having a cloth strip stiched around the edges), and get you a protective underlayment to put between the hardwood and the rug. You can have the rug made to any shape and size you want. Since you won't have to pay for installation you save some money, you won't damage your wood floors and it'll be easier to change in the future.
- Q: I my daughter and I have three cats. 1 male 2 females. One or more are using the area rugs as a bathroom. We have added another litter box. Washed all the rugs with oxy clean for cats. I have told my other daughter not to bring her german shepard over anymore. I am trying to play with them more. Can anyone help me.
- A lot of the rubber backings on bathroom rugs smell like urine to the dogs and cats near them, and they use them to pee on because of that. Try cleaning the rugs with an enzyme cleaner (pet supply stores sell those, they take out all organics so no smell lingers). You may have to just keep the bathroom door closed at all times, to protect the rugs.
- Q: I had a bad stain on my carpet that nothing would remove. So I tried peroxide on it, and it took it out. So I was wondering if peroxide, baking soda, and things of that nature can be used in carpet cleaning machines?
- You are lucky the peroxide worked and didn't ruin your carpeting, because peroxide usually bleaches anything it touches. I wouldn't put in in a carpet cleaning machine. I would not use baking soda in a machine either; it will gum it up. I would use manufacturer recommended cleaning solutions.
