Q: What should i know to avoid being scammed or over charged for a new synthetic (debating between polyester polyester nylon) carpet pad for a Living room stair case. What is the average amount of additional carpeting needed?
i went to the home depot and they were SOOOOOOOOOO helpful and honest (since they pay an outside contractor to do the work, they dont try to bs you more). it will cost a lot to do stairs... the carpet comes in precut rolls of so many feet. what they SHOULD do is first come out to your house and chart the rooms... the contractor that did ours had a handheld device that he keyed the lengths into and it calculated the best way to lay the carpet out with the least excess... and seaming. if the flooring underneath is bad, they will not install over it. ours was plywood and just fine. ask about tear out and disposal fees for the old carpet. also ask about removal of furnature. the contractor we had charged like $100/item. $50 for a lamp. make sure to get a water retardant pad. do scotchguard!
Q: i have a peach carpet and ivory and gold suite
Your room sounds beautiful and for an area rug,you could get an Aubusson-like rug with a background of rust or sage green or a soft french blue...any of these colors would look wonderful with the peach. Check out the QVC and the Home Shopping Club websites for some gorgeous examples.
Q: how do you make a rug?
Depends on what kind of rug you want. You can go to a carpet store to buy a remnant, then purchase an easy finishing edge cording so it doesn't get ratty edges. Or you can do some quilting and attach it to a straw or rubber type mat. Try googling DIY Rugs and look at all the different types you can make and what the materials would cost. There are so many choices!
Q: My carpet had high traffic so I bought a large bottle of carpet spray from the grocery store. I sprayed and worked the solution in with a sponge, I cleaned a 5X7 area = 35sq ftSome parts of the carpet are still kind of damp when walking on them, it has been 20 hours.I have my windows open and I live in Colorado, very dry...humidity meter in my house says 26 right now. Even with my windows open for the past 20 hours the carpet still isn't completely dry.I am concerned about mold because I lived in a house once where we had mold problems and I don;t want them again! I read Mold can grow very fast...Since I used carpet cleaner and didn't just pour water on my carpets will the carpet cleaner cause mold the same way water will? Thanks!
Using some fans to give some ventilation will help the carpet dry.
Q: I have a large family room - 25 x 16 feet. I currently have a 9x12 rug on one side and want to add another on the other side of the room. The rug that works best with my existing rug only comes in 5'8x9 or 8'8x10. The first seems a little small and the second a little big. Can you have two large rugs in one room or does that overpower the room? I would only have about 14 between the two rugs if I went with the larger rug. It seems like it would look like a little landing strip. But I don't want the small one to look like a postage stamp. What to do?
It depends on what you are going to put on it. You could turn the other rug so they won't be so close together.
Q: i have a 3ft. carpet python and need to move him into a bigger tank. my question is what size of tank should i get. please use in gallons example: 20, 50, 60 gallonsthanks for ur help
80 gallons!!!!
Q: i took my carpet there was carpet underneath it looks pretty good but . but how do i get the glue marks off any suggestions
I don't quite understand--they glued carpet TO carpet? That's the laziest thing I've ever heard. Carpet adhesive can't be removed from carpeting, you have to tear it all out and replace it. Keep going and see if you hit hardwood floors, much better looking.
Q: cleaning rugs/my wine/ pets?
hi, check out howtocleanstuff it's a great resource.
Q: My apt is approx. 900 sq ft. Minus the 2 bathrooms, and dining and kitchen rooms is about 860 sq ft maybe. I want my old carpet to be replaced with the soft carpet. The one that is not too furry. Not Berbar carpets and not commercial. My current one is 10 years old and is commercial. I hate it cuz it roughens my feet over the years and i have to wear slippers.
860 square feet is 95.5 yards. The style of carpet you want is a sculptured plush, which can retail anywhere from 17.99 a yard upwards to 35.00 a yard. If you were to figure 19.99 a yard, for instance times 95 yards you would have around 1910.00 for only the carpet! You must also take into consideration the following costs: Removal of old carpet and pad- both the labor and the hauling away. New pad. Installation labor costs. Any cost for furniture or appliance moving or disconnecting. Moldings or cove base or quarter round. If your landlord was looking at commercial carpet it is due to the fact that it will stand up to the normal abuse most tennants subject flooring to. I work in a flooring store and I also own a rental. I know the usual life of carpet in a rental and the cost of the materials and labor for my area. In your area, it is likely that your costs would be much higher than here, since I live in a small town. Hope that helps! p.s. without actually looking at the installation area in person, to quote you a realistic price would be impossible!
Q: Iam looking for others that can help and inspire a begninng rug hooker. I just completed my first project using burlap and wool yarn. I cannot find the same burlap or yarn in the area so would love to find some via internet or the SC/GA area. Walmart carries a very flismy burlap which I do not like, and acrylic yarns which split
