Q: I have a tile floor in my kitchen, and I have tiles in both of my bathrooms, floors and shower walls. Whats is the best way to clean these with out removing the grout?
Kaboom grout cleaner. Not tub and tile. There is to different ones. They both are very good. If you can find the Kaboom grout cleaner It will do all of it. Other wise use hot water and Just a cap full of the tub and tile cleaner from kaboom ,
Q: I have a few small pits (about 1/16 in diameter, very shallow into the tile) that have developed in some old ceramic tile in my foyer (it may be from some salt that was tracked into the foyer over the winter). Is there a good way to repair it?
I would try 'tile and grout sealer. These products are easy to apply and once dried are very hard. Go to your home supply store and look at a few different types and see what would work best for you application. Most people don't understand that tile needs to be sealed and re-sealed every year or two, especially in high traffic areas and where there will be a lot of dirt or water track across them.
Q: We have cement tiles in our apartment. To wash them, I just use liquid soap and water; I don‘t want to use toxic products. The tiles are dull-looking, though. How do I get them to shine?
At your local home improvement store they have a sealant that will bring shine to cement tiles. They have to be cleaned real good and then you put this over the tiles. Just ask an associate, and they will point you in the right direction. :-)
Q: What is the concept of tiles?
Tile concept stocks: Four-dimensional holding (600145): The company is the first listed company of professional sanitary ware in China. Now it has three major production bases in Chongqing Jiangjin, Wansheng and Hunan Xiangtan. It has an annual output of 4 million pieces of high profile sanitary ceramics, 30,000 bathtubs and 330,000 sets of metal faucets. The first in the west, the forefront of the country. More than 60% of the products exported to Europe and the United States developed countries, China's sanitary industry is the largest export, supporting the strongest one of the enterprises.
Q: I would like to know what steps to take to prepare the concrete floor for ceramic tile. Part of the floor is cement and part is painted. Do I have to prepare the painted portion before tiling?
Do not attempt to try what Ray is suggesting ( sry Ray) DIY Doc is rt.. THin set morter is a bonding agent not a filler.. If to thick it will crack and skrink . There are better product s for coatind and filling, such as self leveling compound. but thats a differant situation. Your cement floor is an excellant substrat like Doc said. The only thing I like to do diff is allow the thinset to dry dry an extra day specially over the painted part Other than that GL 20 yr installer
Q: i know NOTHING about how to do it or what i need. Could someone just list all the tools and equipment i would need to buy or rent to complete this job myself? ie, tiles, tile cutter, ?, ?, ?... etc. thanks.
you need a nocthed trail, maybe 1/4 inch. a tile saw you can buy for 90 at home depot, or rent one for the same price. a grout float, a level, a tape measure, a 5 gal bucket ( to clean your tools while you work) That's really about it. any hard ware store should hook you up as well, If you hire a person to lay the tile the going rate is about 5.00 to 6.00 per square foot.
Q: How can I remove ceramic tiles from a bathroom wall without damage the wall itself, as I want to paint the wall. Would steam help loosen the glue used?
The tiles are held on with grout, not glue. It all depends on where these tiles are and the condition of the wall behind them. Do any of the tiles have cracks? Is there any black mould growing at the edges where the tiles meet a wall or the tub? But before I go any further - If the tiles are surrounding the tub, aka tub surround or shower stall, then don't use only paint on plain dry wall. It just won't work... well, it will work, but not for long. You'll have to replace the dry wall within months! Now, to start you need to crack a tile or two, break it from the wall, scrap the rest off with a strong flat metal tool (some call them putty knives). The more moisture behind the tile the easier the tiles come off. Some tiles will be so adhered it will take the drywall paper or drywall with it, and you will have to either replace the drywall or mud it, then sand it flat and prime it. You can't get away with this, no matter how you try. It is the way of the tile, so to speak. To replace the wall or part of it there is a fairly new product on the market that is highly water resistent - nothing in this world is water proof! All succumbs to water, eventually. - you will find it at Home Depot , or any other building supplier, and it looks like concrete. Heavy as hell, and sold in sheets like drywall. You have to use a skill saw to cut out the size you need, and use screws to adhere it to the 2x4's that makes the room's frame.
Q: does anyone know what the most affordable nice tile flooring is? i was watching a tv show that was using slate for less than a dollar a sq ft. i cant seem to find that anywhere.. but im re-doing my kitchen and would love suggestions! no laminate or wood im really aiming for tile. thanks!
If you happen to have a Habitat for Humanity Restore near you, they (or at least the one near me) usually have lots of unused tile that you can buy for a low price. Just an idea.
Q: can you paint over bathroom tiles? if so what kind do i need?
Yes, there is tile/ceramic paint- several brands- all stocked by home improvement stores. The key element is the prepping. The old tiles and grouting need to be clean -and then cleaned again with the manufacturers suggested cleaner. You can decorate tiles, or change the color of the entire wall. Once the paint is dry, it is waterproof . It takes a bit of time, but with care, you should be able to do almost all the cleaning prep the day before and then just do the final cleaning and paint on the project day. Worst case, do one wall at time. It does not hurt to practice the entire process on one tile- preferably the tile hardest to see when you are on the outside looking in.
