- Q: I‘m redecorating the bathrooms of my town house. I want to tile the one wall in the shower with small blue Mosaic tiles, and the rest of the bathroom with plain white tiles. As it‘s a very small en-suite, I‘m thinking o
- Mosaic tiles can add a lot of variety and interest into a bathroom. A mixture of blues is suitable and your decision to keep the other areas white is also correct. I am assuming the fittings will also be white colour. But, if you are planning to cover only one part of a wall where it is against the shower, it might not look right. (unless the wall you are referring to is the wide side of the shower and it is also the full width of the bathroom) it is best to either use it on all three sides of the shower or in one full wall of the bathroom.
- Q: Can I also use thin set to grout my tiles on counter? I‘m using white glazed ceramic tiles 4x4. If not what should I use? Please help
- The most popular tiles are large format styles that minimize grout lines and make a small kitchen appear larger. Squares are the most popular shape, but rectangles, hexagons, and octagons can make a statement. You can incorporate one or more styles to create a variety of patterns, from checkerboard to basketweave, and add accents for visual interest. The hardness that makes tile so desirable as a kitchen floor surface can also be a drawback. Serious cooks will want to wear comfortable shoes or put down floor mats or area rugs, because standing on tile for long periods of time can be tough on legs and backs. Its surface is cold to the touch of bare feet. And dropped dishes, mugs, and glasses can break on impact.
- Q: anyone know this kind of tile? How durable is it? is it suitable for wall or floor?
- If its the honey or green onyx in the lower pictures, to answer your question, it is for wall application only, not durable enough for flooring. Expensive but can be used with other tile if you d like to make stripes and small designs. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: How can i get hair dye stains off tiled flooring?
- I would try a magic eraser.
- Q: I am installing 4x4 ceramic tiles on a shower wall. I have been using a 1/4 x 1/4 sq. notch trowel, but am having trouble with the tiles staying put...should I use a 3/16 x 5/32 v-notch trowel instead?
- Tile Trowel
- Q: Classification of tiles?
- les according to the process is divided into: glazed tiles, quintana brick, polished tiles, tiles, ceramic tiles. 1, polished tiles: polished tiles is the surface of the whole body brick body polished / polished from a kind of bright brick, is a kind of quintana brick. The surface of the polished tiles is much cleaner than the quintiles. Polished tiles are hard and wearable and are suitable for use in most interior spaces except for toilets and kitchens. In the use of infiltration technology on the basis of polished tiles can make a variety of imitation stone, imitation wood effect. Polished tiles easy to dirty, non-slip performance is not very good. 2, tiles: This is a high temperature firing ceramic tile, is the hardest of all the tiles. The tiles are more demanding than the polished tiles. Requires a better press, can suppress a higher density, the firing temperature is higher, to achieve full porcelain. The tiles are reinforced polished tiles. The surface does not need to be polished. Can be more resistant to dirt. Polished tiles and tiles are relatively beautiful, high wear resistance, generally used in the living room.
- Q: I only have a couple of tiles in my shower to grout. I bought some pre-mixed tile grout from Home Depot. It says on the back NOT FOR USE IN SHOWER OR UNDERWATER. I called home depot and they said it would work if I were to seal it. As many know sealer is very expensive and I‘m only doing a couple of tiles that will be exposed to water. Do I have to seal this? I understand there exist grout with sealer already inside.....
- Sealer, sealer, sealer... It's like the magic solution for everything now. The most important thing about what you are doing is the adhesive for the tile. Make sure it can handle the water. And spread it thick... let the tile squeeze it out and wipe out the excess. You cannot have air bubbles under the tile. The steam will expand the air in that bubble (1,000 times it's cold volume) and pop the tiles. As for grouting between the joints: consider using caulk instead. You can specially order (at the hardware store) tinted and colored caulks. In a shower, there is no better solution. I bought a grout remover tool and took out the grout in my tile shower then installed a light sand colored caulk 15 years ago. I never sealed the glazed tile and it still looks good.
- Q: What are the benefits of installing tile in kitchen and bathroom or would linoleum be better? Also, how hard is it to install tile floors. I‘ve had friends who‘ve had no experience and they did it and did a good job. I am just a bit skeptical of doing it myself but just wondered if there are videos out there that shows you how to do it.
- Tile is better in my opinion than linoleum. I don't know about videos, but there are instruction manuals where you get your tile. Everything you need is pretty much in the same area as the tile. The only thing you need to remember when laying tile is; make sure you leave no space( not even pencil size) between each tile, do not get the tile wet for (they say 72 hrs.) at least 4-5 days (this is my advice). You want to make sure that it dries and seals thoroughly. With linoleum you are taking the risk of it seperating and warping (which happens very easily). The instructions on linoleum says do not mop or walk on it for 3-5 days; when truthfuly you want to stay away from it for 7-10 days. If living in the home this is impossible!!

- Q: This tile in my kitchen became loose a while ago and today I decided to try to fix it but not sure what to do. As you can see from the image link, a fair amount of concrete has come off with the tile. I suppose I can‘t re-use this tile. I have a spare one available. What I need to know is what product do I use to fill in the hole? Should I try to get out all the old concrete stuff first?
