- Q: My husband ( yes...the one with the dents in his head from the cooker hood ) is fixing rustic tiles in my kitchen. He has done loads of tiling with plain tiles ( i.e straight edges!!) but we're wondering about spacing these with irregular edges. Very little advice on the web apart from to space them more widely which doesn't really help! Anyone done this and pleased with the result?
- Yes me and my husband did our kitchen with these tiles. We didnt use spacers at all but trusted it to the eye. We left a 5 mm gap where the straight edges were. I really am a perfectionist and I thought I wouldnt like the effect but when the tiles were grouted in they were absolutely fine. I think those with a wavy edge are perhaps more forgiving for DIY people like us. You dont say whether yours are floor or wall. Ours are floor tiles by the way. Good luck!

- Q: so i bought tile but not the bull nose end pieces cause they did not have them for that tile. I tiled all the way out to the edge of the counter and now need a way to finish the edge. - you could paint over them again, which would look fine, but I wouldn't tile over them. to start, its not a smooth surface, which means that it will be very very hard to do a good job. Plus at some point, the old tiles will start to lift and fall off, which means it will ruin your new tile job. for what its worth - scraping them off is not a fun job, but its not a hard job and its something you could do yourself which would save money.

- Anything really I would make a suggestion that you dont use white because if its a floor tile you will spend alot of time keeping them clean... I would suggest something in natural stone or something that looks like natural stone.. its more traditional... but almost any color can go with white its just a matter of your decor and your prefrence another thing is trying to relate your floor to your countertop can help
- Q: We have an installer, whom seems to be doing it wrong. I can‘t find any website that explains how to install tile the way he is doing it. Can you tell me if this sounds correct?First he puts mortar on the bare cement floor, then put down versa-bond or a bonding agent.. and then he puts more mortar on the tile and then lays it down.. Does this sound right to you?Thanks
- Versa bond is a thin set brand name. It s a good thin set too.So I m not sure what you mean by a bonding agent. And putting it on the back of the tile is a method ( slow method) of setting and leveling tile. I would have to know the trowel sizes that he / she is using before passing a final judgement. I would use a bigger notched trowel on the floor and just a thin smooth coat on the tile back. Both methods will level tile and ensure a full coat of thin set for tile to bond well to the floor.
