- Q: If you can tile on top do i need to prepare the old tile surface?
- You technically CAN... but definately make your work easier and more durable if you go ahead and bust out the existing floor and start from scratch. There are incidentals you need to account for like total floor height and you run the risk of your new floor cracking where the grout lines are in your old floor.

- You should not apply tiles on plywood, you'll be doing a great mistake, use a cement mortar directly on a concrete base, they'll last almost a lifetime....
- Q: i‘m thinking about laying my own tile. ( this way i could save $2700) yeah, i know its a pain int he butt. BUT i‘m still going to do it because i like doing my own work. I‘m laying down 24x24 tiles. do you have any advice or secrete or techniques to offer? its a straight edge tile so i was thinking about using no spacers. I was also told to spread thinset on the tile in addition to the cement floor.

When you buy the tile check for the size notched trowel that's recommended and use it on the concrete floor and flat butter the back of the tile, and use a rubber mallet to tap it firm.

- You want a clean, flat surface to place your tile on. You can buy leveler at your local hardware store or you could overlay your floor with luon which is a very thin plywood to help level your floor and have a clean surface to work with. You want to start at the center and square out your floor with chalk line. You want your cut pieces on the edges. My husband also used an adhesive to ensure the tiles stayed put, but ask to see if this is necessary. My floor has been in for about 10 years now and the edges are still tight.

- These tiles are self sttick, so no other glue is needed. However, the surface of the floor must be clean, dry, and smooth for the tile job to last. Be sure to follow installation instructions carefully. Personally, anywhere water is involved, (bath, kitchen, laundry,) the less joints that water can penetrate, is the better solution. Self stick tiles will no hold up to an overflowing sink or toilet.

- Depends on what is the glue on the wall. Water glue with a towel dipped in warm water can paint clean; silicone with a blade scraping; universal glue (strong glue) with organic solvents (thinner, banana water, alcohol, gasoline, etc.) can be washed clean.

Here however, you should notice that all parts of this equation are very easily square rooted...so, square root both sides to simplify and solve for x: sqrt [25(x^2)]= sqrt[16(x+1)^2] 5x = 4(x+1) 5x = 4x + 4 x = 4 Therefore the side length of each tile is 4 cm. Of course, you can check your answer by plugging it into any of the equations above, and making sure that the left side of the equation acutally does equal the right side!
