- Q: I heard that ceramic tiles absorb water and we have ceramic tile in the downstairs bedroom. After I wash the tile floor how long do I wait until I can move our dressers and furniture back on the tile? Because once I bring in the dressers I don‘t think the tiles will have a chance to dry because it is fully covered by the dressers, right?

- Q: Our house has Asbestos floor tiles throughout. (I had them tested, and they definitely contain asbestos.)The dilemma: Currently these tiles are covered with carpet. The carpet is old and ugly and needs to be replaced. We want to replace it with Laminate flooring.I‘m worried about pulling up the carpet tacks at the edges. Is there a safe way to do that? Also, is it safe to put Laminate flooring over asbestos tiles?
- Asbestos okorder and I can provide homeowner consultation on how to safely deal with asbestos floor tile in the home. I can cite study data showing exposure levels associated with certain floor tile removal tasks.
- Q: Do I want to use the concavity of a marble tiles to make a TV backdrop, right? Help designers,
- The concavity stone is very unique, not only can do the backdrop can also do the home garden, but I still like their art painting, is the need for rice too much. O (╯ □ ╰) o, the last only bought a cappuccino series of brick, but we can learn from the effect.
- Q: I am looking at purchasing a home but on the disclosure form from the seller, it shows that there is asbetos tiles on the basement floor.I know asbetos is a problem but in this case how much would it cost to remove it? should this be a deal breaker?

- Q: best way to install floor 12inch by 12 inch floor tile
- First you decide if you want a seam or a row of tiles in the middle. Make sure the floor is clean and without divots (fill in any holes). Drop a chalk line down the center of the room and lay a row of tiles dry (no stick) along the line to see how they look. You don't want one end to leave a sliver and the other end to leave almost a full tile - try to balance the ends that have to be cut. Now dry-lay a perpendicular row from the center to check the ends going across the room. Lay a full tile or its edge down on the chalk line. This first tile will be used to orient all your tiles so make sure you're satisfied with the placement. Then lay a whole permanent row of full tiles down the center. Now you have to decide if you want the tiles layed side by side or brick wall pattern. Next lay the perpendicular row down permanently. Now all you have to do is fill in the quadrants as far as you can go with full tiles. After all your full tiles are down, it's the cut ones that remain. Slide a full tile in place up to the wall and mark where you have to cut. Peel and stick tiles usually can be cut with a sheetrock knife and a metal straight edge or a good pair of shears. Some of the cuts can be tricky - I can't see them so you'll have to muddle through.
- Q: I absolutely hate the tile in our main bath, its coming up and in a few places there is no grout, so its basically looks awful. The bathroom is my dogs fav place to be and i am constantly sweeping the gobs of hair that get in the cracks. Are there any suggestions for an eay fix? How much trouble would it be to just fill the cracks with grout and put stick tile over it? Would that be a ridiculous idea?
- .. The tile is loose.. hence the grout coming up and tile.. No real easy way to fix..One POSSIBLE solution is to remove all loose tile.. Some may be still bonded. Fill with a self leveling compound and redo with a self stick tile ( this is a temporary fix) and let the dogs have the room back. Or put a sheet vinyl down over the repaired surface using a floating type vinyl that requires no glue. Best is to take it all out and start new, using new tile or sheet vinyl.. GL
- Q: I have a small round accent table with formica top. I‘d like to try my hand at mosaic tiling on the top. Is it possible to do this over the formica, or do I have to remove it. If so, what do I use to prep the formica before tiling. p.s. I‘ve never tiled anything before. Using this as a learning project. Thanks for any suggestions, tips.
- Do NOT try to sand or grind off the formica top!! That is a terrible idea!! Instead go to the lumber yard or home center and get thinner for formica cement, or any brand of contact cement thinner, or, barring that, try your hand with acetone. Try to start the top separating by prying at an edge or even breaking off a chip, use a brush and flood the crack or edge with the thinner and the formica laminate will come loose so easily you'll probably be surprised. The glue bond is never that good with formica, what makes it stick so well is simply the fact that it is such a large gluing surface area in a typical formica application. Work with a cheapie, throw-away brush and a putty knife. Use the putty knife to lift the formica and keep flooding the area near the putty knife with contact cement thinner via the brush. The formica laminate will come off very easily. If you don't feel like dealing with removing the formica, don't try to stick tile to it. Instead, try applying some 1/8 thick fibreboard, using the same formica contact cement and a lot of fasteners. Then, do your tiling with the firbreboard as your substrate. But, removing the formica laminate is actually very easy. The thinner gives off nasty fumes, do it outside or in a very well ventilated area. Once the formica is off, keep rubbing down the wood substrate with the thinner to get rid of as much of the gunky contact cement residue as you can. You can brush on the thinner, then scrape the softened glue off with a paint scraper and finish the wood off rubbing it with a cloth dampened with the thinner. This should not take long. Then, hit it with a coarse sanding to prepare it for tiling. This is the perfect project to try your hand at working with tile.
- Q: What kind of tiles are suitable for home decoration?
- That depends on where you are ready to use? And your home decoration style.
- Q: I recently removed some old tile in my kitchen that was bound to the floor with adhesive. I‘d like to either remove the adhesive or make that area of the floor level in order to place some stick tile. What is the best solution for this? Do I need a sealant? Should I chip up the old adhesive and then seal the floor? Thanks!
- Heat sections with a propane torch and remove with a scraper or putty knife. After removal, buy some floor leveller and use as directed. No sealant required. Your new floor and the adhesive you choose will seal just fine.
