- Q: Why the new tiles are double? What material, so good?
- It is not Yeah, Hongyu tiles on all the whole body bricks, all a layer, so that the selection of more detailed, with a higher specification, the quality is so more stable
- Q: How to calculate the loss of tiles
- The loss rate of the block surface is calculated according to the fixed standard. Ordinary tile loss rate of 3%, such as interior wall tile wall. Special tile loss rate of 2%, such as marble walls.
- Q: I have really old honeycomb tile in my bathroom and it would be extremely difficult to remove it. The surface is pretty flat .Would ceramic tile work best , or something like self stick vinyl tiles?
- The answer to your question is NO...The reason is that you would end up with cracking tiles and lifting. Not to mention that the cement won't stick long term. You can rent a tile remover for little cost if you are willing to put in a weekend of sweat equity. It sure beats spending thousands on a contractor to do it.
- Q: I am tiling my kitchen countertop and want to put in some wood trim pieces around the front edge like is in newer homes with tile countertops. What I want to know is, where in Lowe‘s can I get that? Is it going to be with all of the moulding, etc., and am I looking for something inparticular? Thanks!
- I did this in my Kitchen and it looks great. We tiled it with granite 12x12 tiles and then topped the back splash with a decorative molding. It looks so good. For the front you can use pine its not too soft ours is pine and the kitchen is 6 years old now and it still looks great. We looked everywhere and couldn't find an edge thick enough so we made our own with a router. It was easy and then you can choose any wood you want if your wanting to stain it. One tip!! Make sure to leave about 1/4 inch gap between the tile and wood molding on the front and then fill it will silicone (you don't have to leave a gap at the top of the back-splash when you put molding on there to finish that edge off). It will take 3 or 4 times to fill it all the way and get it even perfectly with the top but its worth it. If you don't do this the tiles will expand and contract differently then the wood and the grout will crack and look like crap after a while. Trust me we first did it in the bathroom and that's what happened and we had to redo the whole thing. Every year or so you have to add some caulk or silicone but its not a big job its pretty easy and I do it once a year when I reseal the grout which is really important in the kitchen so you don't have staining. Its all done in an hour or so.

- With no offense to you or others who answer, the answer truly is NO, not to any satisfactory level! After installing thousands of sq. ft. of tile, and applying thousands of gallons of paint, AND UNDERSTANDING the properties of fired, glazed tile, I share this. It's essentially GLASS. Without much detail regarding color I'm going to assume you're talking about individual tiles interspersed among a base color tile. Also without knowing the substrate, there is an option. If you can match the base color tiles, and live with them, you can use a diagonal grinder to remove the surrounding grout, around the offensive color tiles, chip them out carefully, and after cleaning the substrate, install new. Certainly that can be applied to NOT matching tile pieces as well. Allow the mastik proper drying time, re-grout, and hopefully be OK with it. If that seems too easy, or difficult, you should consider other PATTERN options, since it's possible you'll damage base color tiles, OR, again, see if that base color is still available. For that you may have to go to a manufacturer, which may be difficult since many are in Europe and/or Mexico. Steven Wolf

- Mexican tile, also known as Spanish tile, is a broad term used to describe a number of tile materials on the market, ranging from saltillo to hand made ceramic tiles sporting traditional Spanish and Mexican designs. Regardless of the type of tile you choose, you can count on Mexican tile to add a warm, pastoral, south of the border flair to any space in which you have it installed. Saltillo Tiles Saltillo tile is by far the most common of the Mexican and Spanish tiles found on the market. It is made from raw clay traditionally pressed by hand, and has an earthy, rough, almost terra cotta look to it. Depending on the firing, saltillo tiles range from deep yellow to deep orange in color, and come in a large variety of tile shapes, everything from your basic square to hexagonal and more elaborate patterns. Because of the nature of the clay and the more traditional form of production, these tiles are more porous than other ceramic tiles. As such, they should always be sealed with a quality sealant to protect them from stains and spills, which they would readily soak up if not protected. They will also need to be periodically re-sealed. Don't think of this as a downside, however. Like with hardwood, refinishing your saltillo will revive your floor, keeping it looking like new far past the time when other ceramics will have lost that newly installed look. On a final note, saltillo tiles get their name from the town in Mexico where they were originally, and still are, manufactured. If you get the real deal, and not an imitation variety, you can expect to find an odd chicken foot print or other animal print in your tiles when they are installed. Place these tiles in a prominent place in your tiling project for a great conversation starter and enjoy the rustic feel such imperfections will add to your finished product. Most tile floors, including Spanish tile, will feel cool to bare feet in both winter and summer.

- Q: we are constructing apartment....got a question about tile work..which is better, is it better to leave some gaps between tiles and is it better layout tiles with no gaps between them...the builder is suggesting the first option above...i prefer the second option...because with the first option, i feel there are chances of dirt getting clogged as time passess by...please advise
- tile is always done with gaps, which are then filled with grout. small wall tiles usually have a tiny 1/16 gap, while floor tiles usually have bigger gaps from 3/16 up to 3/8

- Porcelain tiles will not break if installed correctly. Let's say, a hammer fell on the porcelained floor, this wouldn't break but would chip and that applies to all kinds of tiles.
