- Q: I hava a 12x12 ceramic tile that we want to hang on the wall (not permanently). The tile has no hooks or anything in it. What‘s the best way to hang it?
- Ceramic tile is a wonderfully versatile material. Not only does it make beautiful flooring and countertop surfaces, it can be crafted as a work of art in its own right. If the piece has a hanging wire or other hanging device, then hanging a ceramic tile wall piece is no different from hanging a picture. However, many ceramic tile artworks do not include any built-in hanging devices, and so it may be necessary to install one. 1. Lay the ceramic tile wall piece flat on a work surface. Place several pieces of cardboard underneath the tile. Clamp the tile to the work surface. 2. Determine two locations near the top corners of the piece for holes. They must be at least one inch from the edge of the tile and at least three inches from the top of the tile. 3. Cover the drilling locations with duct tape and mark the drilling points. 4. Install a carbide-tipped masonry bit into a variable-speed drill for drilling regular ceramic tile. For drilling porcelain, use a diamond-tipped drill bit. 5. Drill slowly into the tile. Apply very light pressure while drilling to avoid cracking the tile or its glazed surface. 6. Thread a hanging wire into the drilled holes. Twist the wire securely around itself behind the tile. 7. Hang the ceramic wall piece in the desired location from the hanging wire.
- Q: I am looking to tile my livingroom/kitchen area appx 500sf. I am going with porcelain due to the strength ( i was told its better). My question is for resal (4-5 years) what is a better tile to lay; polished tile or regular glaze. I like the shiny clear coat look the polished has but someone mentioned it picks up footprints and it is not good for resale.Also, I was thinking that If I went with a larger tile, 18X18 or larger that it would look much cleaner with less grout lines, but since its only an area of 500sf that it would make my place look smaller than it is?any suggestions are helpful. - A high sheen tile is going to give you a more formal look. A matte finish will be more casual. If you place the tiles on a 45 degree angle, the space will appear larger, but it will require more cuts and a little more tile. If you use 18 tiles and keep them squared with the room shape, the room will appear smaller. I am not a fan of big grout lines unless you are using Saltillo (Mexican) tiles. If you have the option of coloring the grout I would try to match the tile as closely as possible, unless you want to call attention to the grout.
- Q: I want room color which color perfectly adjust with my granite green tile
- The corporate headquarters of Enterprise Rent a Car have Green granite on the floors and walls. Their leather furniture is a red wine color, and there's also some gold in it. I think other colors would be gold, yellow, tan, and that pallette. Good luck, I hope it comes out well.
- Q: I have a tile floor in my kitchen, and I have tiles in both of my bathrooms, floors and shower walls. Whats is the best way to clean these with out removing the grout?
- Kaboom grout cleaner. Not tub and tile. There is to different ones. They both are very good. If you can find the Kaboom grout cleaner It will do all of it. Other wise use hot water and Just a cap full of the tub and tile cleaner from kaboom ,
- Q: We want to put up kitchen tile for our back splash. I would like to put the squares on diagonally but my husband is concerned about the difficulty of all of the cuts. I need some DYI help. Please only serious replies, no jokesters
- Not totally sure what you are asking. I have applied square tiles in a diamond pattern. Be sure to get a wet tile saw to cut the tiles diagonally in half, as this will do a much neater job and make things easy for you. It really wasn't that difficult, lay out your pattern on the floor to get an idea how many cuts you need to make. Use those plastic spacers to ensure uniform spacings between tiles and then just have fun with it. It was a project that I enjoyed and it brought instant enhancements to the kitchen.
- Q: We had glass tile installed in our kitchen and it looks wavy. Our installer said it was an optical illusion which I disagree with. I noticed it as it was being installed and that he did not use spacers. Wouldn‘t that have allowed the tiles to move before they were grouted?
- Spacers are not always needed if these are sheet mounted glass tiles. If individually set tiles then yes they are needed.. Some sheet mounted tiles ( either ceramic or glass) are not set absolutely straight and need to be checked. The best way to check if they are wavy or not straight is to use a straight edge or with 2 people use a string and stretch it out along the grout line. Another possible thing is that your glass isn t all the same size and gives it a wavy look.. This does happen in both glass and ceramics. In this case if the grout line is straight thats all a tile person can do. Not defending the person , just giving some possible explanations. - Q: How can I remove ceramic tiles from a bathroom wall without damage the wall itself, as I want to paint the wall. Would steam help loosen the glue used?

- Q: The tile I want to clean was built with the house back in the early 1900‘s but still in very good condition what would be the best way to clean that because its very dirty, and i think its porcealin. The second set of tile looks like it was put in back in the seventies but doesn‘t match the original tile at all, what would be the best way to change the color other than replacing it. Could i use pray paint?
- First I would clean the tile with a mixture of bleach and water usually 3:1. Then I would sand the tile down, next use KILZ premium primer it will stick to anything you put it on, Wait one hour then you can top coat it with a 100% Aacrylic paint such as KILZ Casual Colors from Wal-Mart. The reason I say use a 100% aacrylic paint is due to the fact that it make your paint more washable and scrub-able it will also last longer, i.e no color change or mildew.

- Can be installed, to warm the tile tile heat transfer effect is better than strengthening the floor, the best are installed to warm, increased by 60mm or so.
