Like why would one want a floor, completely covered with a layer that is hard to remove, easily gets singed if you spill, and never >80% clean?
- Some people prefer carpet because of the feeling on the feet. Carpet is also cheap . Myself I have hardwood floors throughout most of the house. In the kitchen I have engineered floor made of rubber. It is easy to walk on and yet almost impossible to scratch. To me carpets are nothing but dirt traps and odour traps. My son has allergy problems and we took out the carpets his problems almost disappeared. Actually carpets are easy to take out. But I would never have any installed. Too hard to clean

- The short answer: you can't. The longer answer: it depends largely on your function inside the floor function, and how much uglier you're willing to make the function. Certainly floor(constant) is simply a constant, floor(sin(x)) is relatively simple to describe: -1 on intervals (2pi*n-pi, 2pi*n), 0 on intervals [2pi*n, 2pi*n+pi/2) U (2pi*n+pi/2, 2pi*n+pi], and 1 at points 2pi*n+pi/2. You could also perhaps make some limiting procedure, like an infinite-degree polynomial, to describe things. I'm not positive how to go about trying this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it could be worked out somehow. Finally, you could cheat and just say floor(x) = x - fpart(x), where fpart(x) represents the fractional part of x. That's hardly a help though, as fpart isn't nicely defined either. This is essentially what the last answerer was doing with the modulus, although depending on how exactly you define the modulus it shouldn't give you problems with negative values; dividing -2.3 by 1 would actually give you a remainder of .7, and so x-(x&1)= -3, as desired. (Remainders are usually restricted to be between zero and the divisor.)

- Q: I need help finding out if the floor in the building I work at is capable of supporting a restaurant.I know an engineer should be hired, but my boss is an architect who thinks he knows.The question comes in two parts-1- 2 1/2" x 12" (actual) joists on 16" centers, 16' 6" long, made of 100+ yr. old western wood (presumably San Francisco area lumber). Are they capable of supporting 100 lbs. sq ft. load?2- If a wall (theoretically non load-bearing, but floor to ceiling, with two floors of apartments above) were put on the floor, parallel to the joist, would the joist underneath it need to be reinforced?If it makes any difference, the floor will be 4" x 4" ceramic tile, on two layers of 3/4" ply.
- This is something that needs to be visually inspected. What it comes down to is, you would need permits to make this conversion and so the county is going to impose requirements. If you are serious about this project you should consider finding out what those requirements will be. If they include a structural engineer's drawing and approval, then you might as well get that ball rolling. I don't think you can go on anything anyone can tell you here. Sure it sounds like it has the potential of being adequate, but there is also potential for additional support needing to be added below, such as a beam perpendicular across the center on posts. Consider the combined weight of occupancy and service equipment on the entire floor. Look for any signs of stress, rot, infestation, water damage, trades over drilling, sagging, splitting, etc. These will be the determining factors. Chances are good that you have adequate support but my opinion on the matter is useless to you.

- yes.. wash it well and dry completely then acid etch, dry again, and apply a good layer of demetcoat as a primer, then paint with marine grade floor paint.. this approach avoids worrying over whether there is any moisture..and costs a fortune.
- Q: I just got my wood floors refinished about a year ago. But over time I noticed the my floors are dull and blotchy. Recently I have used "Bruce" hardwood floor cleaner and "Rejuvenate" which both claim to shine and not leave a residue. I have tried washing the floors with water but still can't get rid of it. Why are my floors not shiny anymore?
- Once a year I call in the guy that has the big machine buffer and he puts paste wax on the floor. I use Murphy's oil soap to clean them. If I want to bring up the shine in the interim I use mop and glo but he yells at me for that :)

- as for boards to build a deck, Lowe's or home depot or if there is a local lumber yard they might work. as for hardwood flooring lumber liquidators has some great prices a lot better than Lowe's or home depot and they sell the ones like bellawood and the others that have long warranties. you can find them online to see if they have a store near you, or you can order directly from them.
