- if your down to the sub floor, you can put down 1/4 inch backer board on top of the sub floor. then the difference can be made up with the laminate. laminate floor comes in different thicknesses. when you say your husband busted up the tiles, do you mean ceramic tiles? ceramic tiles would be set in a layer of mortar. the laminate does not have to be exactly the same height as the existing wood floor. you can put a transition piece between the new laminate and the existing wood floor. you will put a transition piece between the old and new floor anyway. it's easier if the floors match, but they don't have to be exact. there's molding or thresh hold strips that go between the new and old floor. they come for floors that are even as well as uneven.

- I don't know about that particular model, but I have hardwood flooring throughout my whole house and have a shark steam mop...one of the basic models that have been out on the market for a couple of years. I love it. It works well if you take your time. I like the fact that is leaves less moisture on the flooring than any other method I have used previously. I am happy with mine, and my daughter likes hers too. The only thing about this model is that you have to clean the corners by hand as it does not get right into the corners...no biggie for me....and it does an ok job on travertine, but great job on smoother porceline tiles I have.

- Since it glued to the floor as you say,it has to be a wood flooring. Minor scratches can be touched up with a stain or a touch up pencil. You may have to do some urethane but thats hard to do in small spot and have to look good. Pergo is more into the floating floor ( laminates) line of flooring. If it is a laminate, then there is nothing that can be done to hide scratches. Chair leg protectors and theres several types are good or a area rug to protect the the floor. - To one gallon of hot water, add 1/2 cup ammonia. That dissolves any grease on the floor, anything sticky on the floor. If you want your floors to really shine, use Pledge Floor Wax. That is the best on the market. It used to be called, Future. Oh, don't use that Mop and Glow crap. That is what it is....Crap
