- Q:I have a small house that is 3 feet off the ground on a permanent foundation (insulfoam block). It is completely enclosed and has a vapor barrier on the dirt under the house. The floor is a standard wood floor with floor joists and has carpet and pad on it. I notice that the house is warm....but the floor is cool and it feels breezy at floor level. I was wondering if insulating the floor under the house may help?
- The floor is cool and breezy due to natural convection. Warm air raises, cool air sinks, so the coolest part of your house will be the floors unless you have radiant floor heating. I am not familiar with the insulfoam brand, but this sounds like an insulated concrete wall. This being the case, your house is probably fairly new and insulated better than an older house. The insulated foundation should be adequate for floor insulation in terms of efficiency. Adding floor insulation may improve the temperature of the floor in heating season by just a bit, but not enough to make a huge difference. Short version, if you want to insulate to get a marginal improvement in the floor temperature, go for it. Don't expect to recover your cost through a lower heating bill.
- Q:How does the floor sound handle?
- Floor, there are two causes of the ground, 1, the ground is not flat; 2, after the installation did not immediately check the proposed removal of the re-installation, installation before the ground leveling, after installation, to maintain the indoor humidity in the range you need to buy the floor
- Q:Home ready to install the wood floor today saw a feeling that they are not good to say that the floor of their home is not easy to deformation of the wood is also easy to deformation anyway wood to hides the assembly of locusts, Check the pine wood belongs to the cork can not do the wooden floor? My home is plumbing to ask the wood to do the wood floor in the end will not be easy to deformation what? Hope that everyone or used friends to give advice ~ more
- I think the home plaster, or the laying of multi-storey solid wood flooring better, because it is better absorption, and not easy to deformation. (Such as you said pine), one need to install keel, so, and between the warm film gap, heat is not very good, the second is the solid wood floor, after the water absorption is relatively poor, easy to bad. The above is to give you personal insights.
- Q:We're putting in Pergo flooring. Just wondering how everyone cleans theirs.
- Cheap solution to replace those expensive PERGO flooring cleaners. 1/3 part white vinegar 1/3 part rubbing alcohol 1/3 part water 3 drops diswashing liquid Mix this into a spray bottle and you have the equivalent of the Pergo floor cleaner. Just spray and mop; also great for deodorizing a room and for a fast cleanup. I also use this on my tile floors with great results. Pergo is better off when water doesn't sit on it too long, the alcohol is added to make it dry faster. And it won't leave your floor sticky either.
- Q:Does anyone have any experience with cork flooring? PLease give details.
- I love cork flooring! My grandfather installed cork in one of the rooms in his house in 1953 and it still looks great today. Here are the PROS of cork flooring: 1. Cork is eco-friendly, moisture resistant and naturally hypoallergenic 2. It's natural honeycomb structure provides a natural cushion so it's great for those who have joint problems or have trouble standing on hard surfaces 3. Cork is available in planks, tiles and mosaic tiles with several varying textures and colors leaving endless pattern and design opportunities. 4. Cork flooring can be done as a DIY installation project 5. Cork flooring can last many many years 6. Can be installed over radiant heat system (if approved by manufacturer) 7. Cork is a natural noise insulator (why it's used often as an underlayment) 8. Safe flooring for small children 8. Easy to clean and care for Here are the CONS of cork flooring: 1. It may not withstand heavy foot traffic 2. Heavy furniture may cause indentation marks (use felt protectors) 3. May require refinishing every few years (some cork finishes do not require this) I'd say there are more pros than cons with cork flooring. Cork is gaining more and more popularity due to its green properties as well as the fact is now available in more colors and styles. I say go for it! It's lasted almost 60 years in my grandfather's house!
- Q:Can jacking up a floor be used to create more living space or a whole new level between two existing floors? Is this possible when trying to add an extra floor to your house? Thanks.
- Jacking up a floor will tear it away from the walls. All 4 walls. The floor is connected to the walls.
- Q:I have an android phone, downloaded the game 100 Floors. Played the first 3 floors just fine but the 4th floor is giving me a lot of problems. I've of course looked up cheats and walkthroughs and I know how to get through the level but I simply can not get it to work! I've uninstalled and re-installed a few times, I keep working at it but its not budging. I know it sounds silly but its a simple addictive game I'd like to play to keep myself sane at work during breaks. Any help would be appreciated!
- I might help you out with this one. It's not that hard. You need to use your 2 fingers. Do you have android? If so, I know it might not work with multi-touch and you have to download some sort of program to make it work for multi-touch. P.S. we also have the solution to level 5.
- Q:I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor "sizing" that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks
- You were fortunate to have armstrong perimeter glued product installed. So yes the floor would be in good enough condition. Some must do's These are important for warranty and longevity of your vinyl floor. Floor needs to be extremely smooth not to show through residental vinyl with its sheen. Use Portand cement products only they are good moisture resistors. I personally use ardex feather finsh it is very strong and will spread very nicely. Spread the ardex over all joints in the floor and where old glue was scraped. It dries in about 1/2 hour, using a fan to quicken the drying process. When dry sand ridges smooth and then do a very good sweep. Using a hand broom to make sure the floor is clean, I also use a joiny knife to scrap across the floor to make sure no old staples in the floor have started to rise up. Vinly is suppossed to be rolled with a 75 to 100 lb roller but if you use a wet rag and start pushing out air from center to edges you will acheive a good enough bond. A 1/4 piece of rice would look like a mountain under the vinyl. Anything larger than a grain of sand can be seen under the right lighting conditions so again smoothness is key. Good Luck Im sure you will be happy with your acheivement.
- Q:Okay, something's been driving me crazy; I have no idea what this type of metal flooring is called; it's usually found in factories, submarines, ships, and other dangerous but industrialized locations.
- diamond plate, google image it.
- Q:Lyrics rubbing friction on this smooth floor.
