Q: ok i have theses 2 rooms that have laminate flooring in them and there is a water damaged spot almost in the doorway first rooms about 420sqft and the other rooms about 110sqft and right where the doorway is to the rooms is a spot that is water damaged and it's about 4ft from the starting wall can we cut up the flooring and replace it without having to redo both rooms is there a way to put it together backwards from starting wall to finish point?: If it’s the self locking, floating floor type yes, i have done it it can be carefully disassembled and all the reusable pieces saved and then re-installed you must have enough new pieces of the exact same floor to replace the damaged ones and re install all the flooring you removed pull up the molding that hides the edges of the floor and find where the last row of flooring installed is and lift gently to unlock all the pieces

Q: is it just laminate flooring?: A sad excuse for wood flooring. Yes, they are an inexpensive means of achieving the hardwood look but, they will not wear the same way. You especially DO NOT want them in any area with the possibility of water exposure.

Q: We have engineered 'click' laminate floating floor with a thick underlay which comes in panels. Our neighbors complain about the noise- they can hear each step we make. How can we make the flooring soundproof while maintaining the strength of the floor?: Try looking for accoustic underlay. I dont know of any specific brand. What you want is low density underlay which would dampen the sound better. Sound travels best through higher density material so you want to give the sound waves less matter to travel through. Also if the laminate flooring is installed over timber construction flooring you should look at installing accoustic foam inbetween floor joists which would reduce the resonance. The laminate flooring is installed over high density particle board (sheet flooring) which is installed over the ceiling joists of the level below. The hollow area between ur floor and their ceiling acts like a resonance chambre of a guitar which just enhances the noise transfered through the wood. so you would want to install something to dampen the noise in that hollow part of the floor construction. Q: Will laying one layer over another be bad? I'm worried that the flue from the previous flooring will make the floor uneven. Thoughts or advice?: The best thing to do is to take up the old and to put a quarter inch piece of plywood down to level it out. If you leave the old down, it will be lumpy and uneven...been there- my husband lived and learned this one.Its alot of work and mess bt it'll be worth it to not have partially sunken floors...

Q: if a vinyl floor was installed in the 1970's, would this flooring have any asbestos in it.: Very possibly. However, asbestos in floor tiles is not nearly as dangerous as asbestos insulation, because the insulation is loose, fluffy material that can easily become airborne and be inhaled. In floor tiles the asbestos is bound and cannot become airborne unless you are sanding the tiles or something like that which produces fine dust. Many states don't even have special regulations for the disposal of asbestos floor tile.

Q: we refinished them 2-3 months ago,we watched a video. they turned out beautiful, except one bedroom started to ripple,and now it is swelling up off the floor. I'm worried the rest of the floor is going to do the same.please help!: Is the flooring over cement or sub flooring? Sounds to me as if moisture is playing a part in this. Check to see if there is water pipes or drainage pipes beneath the floor in this area. If so they may be leaking and causing moisture build up between the hardwood and sub flooring. If no water leakage is occurring it could be just ground water evaporating through the flooring. With conventional flooring you can place 8 mil plastic on the ground underneath the home ( if you can crawl under there ) should stop moisture. When you refinish flooring and remove the coating it opens the pores of the wood up, which allows moisture to be absorbed. Sometimes more than it should. Hope this helps some.

Q: I will be moving shortly to another flat which has ancient stained wall to wall carpets. Judging by the age of the block I'm guessing that underneath the carpets are parquet tiles. I was thinking of having the parquet sanded and gleamed, but then I also started thinking in terms of laminated flooring, with which I'm not very familiar. How hard-wearing is laminated flooring, how easy is it to clean, if pets have 'accidents' are the floors likely to stain, etc. How do the laminated floors compare vs parquet?: Laminated flooring is the easiest surface to clean. Also with all the colours to choose from, it's very tempting. From a money point of view, also art deco-ish, people absolutely love reviding the old parquet flooring. They would not think of taking it out. The quality of the wood is much more hardy than laminate. Once you have taken all the gunk, there probably is, off the parquet flooring, you can have a poly-urethane sealer put on. It does not shine, and can be cleaned with soap and water.

Q: I slip when i do roundhouse, front, jump kicks on WET FLOOR.Solutions to this??: it sounds like you need more fleibility in youre legs and hips. when you kick as high as you can youre muscles stretch like a rubber band wanting to snap back. with more flebility you can handle more tension. as keep youre balance as youre first priority. like my coach always said when youre off balance thats when bad things happen

Q: I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor &quot;sizing&quot; that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks: Do you need to put anything under vinyl flooring when doing a cement floor in your basement.
