- Q: Hi,I have an issue with wiring in house. This is in Paris, France. I will share a foto so you can have a clearer picture what my question is.
- It's not just your oven that makes a difference, but the year your oven was manufactured in AND the country it was manufactured in that makes a difference. It was easy to identify your supply wires as Brown = live wire; Blue = return (neutral) wire; green/yellow = earth ground, and this is single phase wiring. There would be an orange wire for 3 phase... ...but the oven wiring conforms to a different standard of gray - white -red where red is possibly the ground line, while the other two are your live and return wires, with the gray likely to be the return wire....BUT...in some time periods, the red wire was the live wire. Your best bet is to test the oven wiring out with a multi-meter and look at what color of wire is connected to where. The earth ground should be connected to the oven's cabinetry; the live wire would be wired to the oven's internal fuse or circuit breaker, and then wired to the business end of the heater elements, timers, etc. The return wire would be connected to the other side of the elements and timers. Your most reliable way to address this is to consult a professional. That second link I posted has both old and new French wiring standards, and neither match your oven. And if your oven isn't manufactured in France, you have yet another level of wiring code to unscramble.
- Q: Im currently running 8 gauge power wire from my battery to my amp which is a hifonics zxi8408 i have it bridged to 2 channels so its pushing 440 watts x2 to 2 alpine type Rs. The current speaker wire im running is 16 gauge.My question is...since im going to go down to 4 gauge power wire, should I lower the speaker wire and get 12 gauge speaker wire also? What will sound the best?

- Q: I'm not sure what kind of wire to use to make wire rings. I had found 50ft of thin wire for a cheap price from city mill. Is there a difference between wire from city mill and wire from Walmart or Ben Franklin? I went to Walmart yesterday and the wire was expensive for such a short length. Am I able to use wire from city mill or is it different from wire you would get from a craft store? To me, wire is wire but i really don't know much about crafts.

- Insulated copper wire is just another term for electrical wire that has insulation on it. Yes, you use normal copper wire that is insulated with rubber, plastic or enamel. Enamelled wire is the stuff you see in motor windings, comparitively fine and coated with transparent enamel for insulation.

- You got lots of good answers but I like Lic. Electricians best. If you are in an older Mobile home where all the wiring is aluminum be very, very careful about over loading receptacles. Aluminium wire was outlawed for use in branch circuits (receptacles, lights) because there were many documented fires as a result of its use. If you are concerned about aluminum wire to the panel or major appliances, have someone check/tighten the connections.

- seriously, who would use 14 guage wire for your subs? I am running 1000+ watts With an Alpine 4 channel and a Diamond Audio Sub amp, not some cheap Sony, Jensen, Audiobahn or the like. I have an 8 guage power/ground wire to my dvd player, 4 guage to each amp, i run 8 guage pwer wire for my speaker wire to my subs. my remote wire runs relayed thru 16 guage

- Q: i bought a programable thermostat that says it needs a c wire to be able to use the remote...i dont have one of these wires on my old thermastat but im kinda understanding the c wire was just to power a clock on certan thermostats is there a way to rig a c wire to power what i need???
- The C is the 24 volt common. You will need an extra wire in the bundle from the stat to the furnace. You should have a C terminal in the furnace on the terminal strip. Look on the circuit board on the furnace low voltage board. If you have the extra wire, hook it up on both ends.
