Q:I'm trying to hook up my second phone line. I have a red, green and yellow wire in the cable, but no black wire. Is there a reason for this? And what can I do to get the second line up and running? thx
the wire you have is designed for 1 line only. Back in the day the yellow wire was used to carry ground because ground was necessary for old circuits. Ground is no longer needed so in order to get two lines you need at least a two pair wire (meaning four wires) you might have to run a new wire unfortunately or just keep that one and run another to separate jack.
Q:I'm not sure what kind of wire to use to make wire rings. I had found 50ft of thin wire for a cheap price from city mill. Is there a difference between wire from city mill and wire from Walmart or Ben Franklin? I went to Walmart yesterday and the wire was expensive for such a short length. Am I able to use wire from city mill or is it different from wire you would get from a craft store? To me, wire is wire but i really don't know much about crafts.
difficult problem. try searching on yahoo and bing. that will help!
Q:cd wires tie into what color wires in your car
if the harness is cut Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow Car Radio Ground Wire: Black Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown Car Stereo Antenna Trigger: Pink Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue good luck and i hope this helps
Q:how do I replace this, the wire is built into the speaker and runs into the unit.
If you have enough wire, just twist it back together and cover the open wiring with electrical tape. If he took out a chunk of wire, just buy some more speaker wire and do t he same thing. The wires should be red and black, just connect the red to the red and the black to the black. It's a really quick and easy fix you can do yourself.
Q:I am wiring a GFCI receptacle with two regular receptacles after it.So before the GFCI I have my 12/2 wire from where it will hook into the box (the line side), after it I have my wire going to the two other receptacles (the load side).Well the GFCI receptacle has screw terminals for the line HOT and WHITE wires as well as a GROUND. On the bottom it has screw terminals for the load side but ONLY the HOT and WHITE, no ground screw.Does this mean that I don't hook up the ground for the load wire or does it mean I have to pigtail the ground to the same screw the line ground is using?I didn't want to assume that I connect the line and load grounds out of fear I was circumventing the GFCI.
Maybe you got a bad GFI Recepticle!!! all the ones I ever worked with have a place for the ground wire!!! Take another look at it!!! maybe someone didnt put the green screw in?? Bring it back to the store and get another one!!!
Q:have 0 gauge power wire, but don't have a ground wire! can I use the power wire as a ground wire if I cut a piece off?
Sure! Normally a ground wire is green so you can wrap a little green tape around the ends. Make sure you connect it to a bright metal spot on the frame of the car or go directly to the negative pole of the battery.
Q:Should I just buy normal speaker wire for wiring my subs together inside my box?? With positive and negative and then pull the wire apart and use only 1 of the wires? Also is 10 gauge good for this if my subs are 600 RMS a piece and my amp is 1180 birthsheet RMS...2 Kicker L5 12sAlpine PDX-1.1000
well speaker wire inside the box i never would wire them together but 10 gauge sounds ok but just buy an amp wireing kit and it will give you proper wires just to be safe make sure all your wires can handel the power other wise it will burn the wires up yes you should pull the apart cause it wont sound right i usaly do is like the wires i buy have a white stripe on them i use that 1 as a ground wire so i know whic 1 is what
Q:remote 2 wires for power black - white also 3 wires to goto fan/light ? white - black - red
wire it black to black white to white. original wiring could be wrong. please better description. for light kit red or blue should connect to that. dont forget grounding wire even though white wire polarizes
Q:I know that a fuse is connected to the live wire. And I was wondering; since a fuse and the circuit breaker are similar, would the circuit breaker also be placed so that both terminals of the circuit breaker are connected to the live wire? If not, would it be connected to a wire that connects a live wire and neutral wire?
The neutral wire is never connected to to a circuit breaker or fuse. It measures the current passing through the hot wire and opens if the current gets to high. Although the same amount of current passes through the neutral wire, an open breaker or fuse in that wire would let the load be connected to the hot wire but not to ground so you could bet shocked from it.
Q:How can I investigate the resistance of wire and how it changes with the length of the wireCheers
get a multimeter. get long lengths of different gauge (diameter) copper lead wire. for each diameter, measure the resistance. cut 1ft off, measure the resistance, cut 1ft off, measure the resistance, cut 1ft off, etc etc. plot the resistance vs length for each gauge separately. show that the resistance is linear in the wire length in each case. now use the different diameter data to measure the resisitivity of copper. resisitivity rho = R*A/L R = resistance L = length A = cross-sectional area cheers
