Q: So I customized my guitar, and now I need to wire it. i have a pre-wired pickguard but I don't know how to actually hook it up. There's 3 wires. I have 2 humbuckers, 1 singlecoil, 1 tone, and 1 volume. All I know is that one wire gets soldered to the back where the springs are and another wire goes to the input jack. But there's a 3rd wire and I don't know where it goes. I don't even know which wire goes to what. Please don't post a diagram because it doesn't help. Q: The wire I need only comes bare and I would like to try enameling it myself with polyester-imide or polyester-nylon, so that it comes out like magnet wire. What all would I need?: You can't use bare copper for coil windings. It would be like having a shorted coil. The varnish or enamel gives a coating thick enough to insulate from shorting and thin enough to allow for efficient induction. I don't see how you can make a winding without it touching itself at some point. Most coils overlap.

Q: How do you attach light wires to boat trailer frame?: If your frame is hollow, use a fish to bring the wires through the frame. Some things you want to watch out for is corrosion of the trailer, and the wires flapping in the wind, or the wires snagging on something when trailering. That being said if you have to mount the wires externally use enough enough clips to keep the wires snug to the trailer. Be sure to seal the holes you drilled for the clips with silicone or rust preventive paint. If you can go through the frame internally, you need only secure the wires with clips at entry and exit points.

Q: Both wires are black. One has what looks like white paint on it.: In Knob and Tube wiring system the black is the hot wire. KT is no longer an approved wiring since the insulation will deteriorate over the years and no ground wire is present. It should be completely removed as soon as possible. The wire with the white paint is probably the neutral wire. To verify this, take a conductor from the neutral buss of the panel and run it to the outlet, then use a solenoid tester to read the voltage.

Q: I have two white wires left...one is a speaker wire and the other is the constant 12v wire and I don't know which is which. Let's say, hypothetically, that you are using a single pickup. Then, the signal wire would go straight to the Volume pot. The tone pot would be an offshoot of the volume, which tapers the high end. There are multiple ways to wire a tone pot, should you install one, and the wiper of the volume pot goes to the tip connection of the output jack.
