Q: I got a new stereo head for my 1999 Ford Contour Sport on my birthday. Since it‘s been installed, I can only get any kind of electrical power when I turn my lights on and the dimmer knob is up all the way. My lights inside don‘t turn on unless my headlights are on and neither does my sound system. I also cannot use my remote lock on my keys unless my headlights are on. I figure it‘s a wiring problem that may have something to do with the stereo head. Any ideas or suggestions as to how to fix it?: if you had it installed a t aplace of business then take it back and have them correct their mistake. if you did the work you need to go back over what you've done and make the needed repairs and amke sure you don't use any extra wires. the engineers have designed it so that you just can't swap a stereo out any more. it's been a while, but i have heard of a manufacturer running the power to the computer through the stereo unit, how brilliant is that?

Q: The service air conditioner light on our 1991 Cadillac sedan deville 4.9 comes on when I turn the air conditioner on. The electronic climate control will not let me turn on the heat or the ac. It just defaults to economy. The ac at this point no longer blows cold air. I push the off button and eventually the light goes out. Do you have any thoughts on what may be causing this? Any trouble codes might lead to better diagnosing. A shop would have to test to see which system sensors, relays or other areas are not getting power or malfunctioning or diagnose a problem with the main climate control unit. Parts and labor can get pretty spendy so many people opt to switch out the automatic climate controls for a manual control system if the car is worth keeping long term or alter the climate system to perform more manually.bypassing the computer controls with on-off switches mounted to the instrument panel or console mounting platform.

Q: ok i own a 2000 silverado 4.3L Vortec engine. last year i put true duals, no muffler but the cats still there. the cats have been burned through and are jut pipe basically now. anyway the o2 sensors along the right pipe are ruined one is cut off and the other is melted to the pipe. the right pipe is questionable. anyway i recently put a cold air intake on with stock tubing. i used the old sensor thing with the electrical plug. i decided to just run the filter literaly on the intake manifold. the truck actualy runs and the service engine soon light went off????? so i took it for a drive and it runs great!!! better than ever and i can hear the filter. i like it but i noticed my transmission cause its auto that it is shifting a lot smoother and actualy faster. like short quick shifts.!! i plan on running it like this permenantly is that good idea???: They will cost more than you will gain back. Q: My check engine light came on in my 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS so I took it to Auto Zone and they use the OBD on it and turn off the check engine light and said its my Knock Sensors so I need to know should I take it to my dealer for servicing.: Knock sensors? That could mean that your engine could start knocking soon, if it does, then you will need a new engine. So have your dealer look at it and tell you what's wrong, but if you dont want to spend alot of money on the problem, dont have the dealer fix it. If you have your own mechanic, let him/her do it.

Q: Mitsubishi Galant 1998. I was in a recent auto accident that damaged the radiator area and I am trying to fix it myself. The check engine light is on it runs pretty hot. First off I understand that the coolant system is pressurized. In the accident the coolant bottle was crushed in such a way that the cap does not fit properly onto the bottle. The hose is still in the coolant and it doesnt leak. Could this cause a problem since the bottle cannot be pressurized?Second the radiator fans do not come on when the engine is turned on. does the thermostat need to activate the fans before they come on? ie is this normalAny ideas would be great. Thanks!: I had a similar problem with my truck years ago. When I would turn the ignition on the fan would turn on even if the engine was cold. It ended up being that the temperature sensor wire got a break in it and grounded out. When the sensor grounded the computer thought that the engine was overheating and would turn on the cooling fan. With your car being in an accident the wire could have been pinched and grounded it self. Does the Temperature gauge go to the high side when the ignition is on and the engine off? If there is no temp gauge, just a Temperature light the light sould be off with the engine off and the ignition on. On most vehicles the coolant overflow bottle is not pressurized, but some are. If the radiator doesn't have a cap on it the overflow bottle will be pressurized.
