- Q: my carpet smells like cat pee, but i know my cat doesnt pee on my floor. My family is the original owners of our house and she is the only cat that has been in this house. how would i get the smell out of my carpet and if for some reason she is peeing on the carpet how would i get her to stop? also i thought it could be the smell of dust but i vacuum, how would i get my carpet to stop smelling?
- Clean the carpet with White Vinegar to remove the urine smell. The smell of the vinegar will take 2-3 hours to go away. Or at the pet shop, get a black light which will show you where the urine spots are on the carpet. Then use enzyme cleaner, also found at the pet shop,to clean the carpet. White vinegar costs about $2. while the enzyme cleaner costs around $15. If the cat isn't fixed this will cause the cat to pee on the floor/carpet elsewhere. So get the cat fixed if not yet done. A unirary tract infection will also cause the cat to lose control to pee on the carpet. If the cat is stressed it will pee on the carpet.
- Q: Someone told me that decorators have a general rule for the size area rug you need for a room. It is something about a certain number of feet of exposed floor around the perimeter of a room. Does anyone know about this? Thanks.
- There really isn't such a rule. An area rug is used to anchor the furniture arrangement in a room and as a sound barrier for hard surface flooring. I would look at how the furniture is arranged a choose a size that optically connects the furniture to the rug. More often than not, people choose a rug that is too small and out of scale with the furniture. A 6 x 8 may be optimal for the dimensions of the room if it serves the scale of the furniture and the amount of furniture in the room.
- Q: if i were to rent an apartment in moscow couldi already get it with carpet?
- With just one difference - when russians own carpets they do not lay them on the floor but hang them on the walls - If you like this - A possible explanation of this is that carpets being made of wool can contribute to more isolation against cold in houses -
- Q: Water was spilled on his rug a few days ago and now the smell of skunk where the water was spilled is becoming overwhelming. Tried scrubbing it with soap but once it dried the smell came back. And there absolutely was no skunk in the house. No animals in the house either. Wondering if my daughter peed on that spot ( she pulls her diaper off sometimes). Please suggest something to get rid of the smell I can't afford the steam cleaner right now but I have a wet/dry shop vac.10 points for best answer thanks in advance for your help
- Boys track all kinds of smelly things into the house on their feet. It could be skunk smell. Everyone who has told you to use plain white vinegar is right. If you want to heat it to near boiling, that could not hurt either. Then dry as best as you can with white towels or color fast towels. Use the shop vac to extract as much water as you can and put a fan on the spot. You want to get it as dry as possible. Health food stores and pet stores sometimes sell safe enzymatic cleaners for pet stains. They really do work on all kinds of animal or urine stains and odors. Tomato juice works because of the enzymes in tomatoes. I would not put it on your carpet. It will smell like rotten tomatoes over time, and stain your carpet red. If your son did get into a patch of ground where a skunk had been, some of the smell might also be lingering on his shoes and clothes. Sometimes time is the best solution to bad smells. Time, fresh air and sunshine all work wonders. If you can't pick up the smell right away, just keep the room picked up, open a window when you can, run a fan to keep air circulating around, and open the blinds.
- Q: its brand new.. but it smells awful.. like a burnt popcorn/broken vacuum smell.i tried to let it air out for days .. not working.. and its too heavy to bring otuside.. its very light colored.. is it okay to ripe it down with soap and water and a rag?? will the soap do anything to the rug?and is there a better option? to wash it with
- The best way to keep a rug clean is to keep it from getting dirty in the first place. Removing outdoor shoes when entering the house (as people do in most rug-weaving countries) is a good idea if this accords with your lifestyle. Bare-foot or sock-foot traffic is much gentler to a rug than a hard outdoor-shoe sole (or spike heel), and leaving your outdoor shoes at the entrance to the house tracks in much less dirt. Be aware that it is not advised to use carpet shampoos or sprays! **************************************... Carpet shampoos if not rinsed out thoroughly, usually end up attracting more dirt, and with carpet shampooing machines (especially ones with several brushes) care must be taken to avoid damage to your area rugs. Know that if you do plan to shampoo your carpet yourself you should first sweep or brush the carpet so that the nap stands up and loosens any embedded dirt. Then vacuum. By doing this, the carpet might look clean enough so that you could delay shampooing it. Neutralize odors by sprinkling a mixture of 1 cup Borax and 2 cups cornmeal. Allow to stand for an hour before vacuuming. You can also use commercially available fragrance powders for vacuums they might work too. You can sprinkle baking powder all over the carpet. The longer you leave the baking soda on the floor, the better it will clean and freshen the carpet up. It cleans up the area where the smell originated and stops it from getting in the air. Hope you are able to get rid of the smell with no harm to the carpet!! Good Luck !!
- Q: We just bought a house and the master bedroom has wool carpet in it and I just wanted to know how to clean it!!
- Wool carpet looks and feels awesome, but is tougher to maintain. I would not use a general carpet shampoo on it since they tend to be rough on non-synthetic fibers over time. For spot treating (spills, etc): Use a white cloth dampened with barely warm water and a few drops of clear dish washing liquid. White cloth and clear liquid just to make sure there's no color/chemical transfer. Blot it the way you'd get at any spill and then a dry cloth to get all that water up. For a deep clean: You'll be better off getting a professional in once a year or whenever the mess is too big to clean yourself.
- Q: I have this expensive shag rug from pottery barn, and my two cats have peed on it. I couldn't tell because the shag is so fluffy but when i moved it there pee had stained my wood floor. I love this carpet, and don't want to throw it out. Does anyone know how I can clean a shag rug from cat pee? They only went in one area so its secluded to that one section.(No I will not get rid of my cats)
- Without knowing what the rug is made of, I'm not sure of what to tell you exactly. If you think you could wash it in the washing machine, try that. If your washer isn't big enough, maybe a triple load washer at the laundromat will work. If it's too big for the washer you could take it to the carwash and use the clips on the wall of the carwash stall to hang the rug on. Spray the rug with the soapy water, making sure to rinse well. Take it home (take some large trash bags with you to avoid getting your car soggy) and let it dry in the sun, perhaps over your fence.
- Q: The problem is I am not sure how I will paint the bottom part because of the carpet. What is the easiest way to paint it without having to remove the carpet? Are there paint shields specifically designed for stairs? Thanks
- Using your finger tips, tuck the tape that is lining the edge of the tarp into where the carpet and wall meet.
- Q: ok so these might be stupid questions but.. can cooler rugs:a)be used under other rugs?b) be left on the horse when out in his field to stay clean?c)be usesd as an anti sweaet rug?d)be usesd as a travel rug?e) be usesd as a stable rug?thanks!!
- well ive only ever heard of it being used as a rug you put on after exercise to cool him down.
- Q: I'm looking for a new rug for a private elementary school library. It must be clear colors, thick enough not to roll on the edges and steam-cleanable. Any ideas?
- First off - Rugs/Carpet usually do not Wear out. Matting or crushing is what the consumer perceives to be wear, but it is usually a result of soil build up without proper maintenance. Your rug/carpet must be professionally steam cleaned once a year and the vacuum you use must be checked to see that the bead-er bar is functioning properly to beat at the fibers. Second - price will play a huge part in the size and type. Since this is for an elementary school and they probably do not have rug/carpet in budget, my guess is that you will be paying for it? Suggestion - go to a local carpet store and pick out the least expensive to your taste, have the store order to your size and then have it bound around the edges. You can pickup double side tape and use this to hold carpet flat. This may be your least expensive way. Good Luck.
