- Remove the baking soda from the new carpet with a vacuum cleaner. Finally empty the vacuum cleaner's garbage can.If it still tastes good, you can reuse baking soda several times. If you can't find any sodium bicarbonate, you can also use white vinegar instead.

- Q: I have a large family room - 25 x 16 feet. I currently have a 9x12 rug on one side and want to add another on the other side of the room. The rug that works best with my existing rug only comes in 5'8x9 or 8'8x10. The first seems a little small and the second a little big. Can you have two large rugs in one room or does that overpower the room? I would only have about 14 between the two rugs if I went with the larger rug. It seems like it would look like a little landing strip. But I don't want the small one to look like a postage stamp. What to do?
- Lay out a template of each rug size for the chair and ottoman area. You should be able to see more clearly which size would be best. Also the rug in that area does not have to be large enough for the pieces to set totally on. It merely has to define the area and add interest.
- Q: I accidentally dropped my red nail polish on to my carpet... i tried using windex - it faded it a little bit- but i can still see it! anything else i can try? and i am going to have a carpet cleaner person come and clean my carpets so will they be able to get it all out? and could there be a reaction from mixing the windex with the carpet cleaner? - Are you using a rug with rubber backing? I have one of these rugs in front of my fridge, and the vinyl flooring underneath is also yellow. I found this from Armstrong Flooring: Place a walk-off mat at outside entrances to reduce the amount of dirt brought into your home. We do not recommend the use of rubber- or latex-backed mats because the chemical (antioxidant) used to keep the backing from becoming brittle can permanently stain your floor. We suggest a nonstaining vinyl-backed mat or a woven rug that is colorfast. Most of these products are identifled colorfast by the manufacturer.

- Q: We have rugs in our house that cover a large area because we have wooden floors. We have had them for a few years and there is a lot of dust that is sand colored that doesn't go away easily even with vacuuming. My mom thinks its just backing from the rug and it's normal. Were planning to get rid of them soon but is this dust/sand stuff really harmful to breathe in? It's been there for years but we don't move them around or anything.
- It is a combination of dried backing and dust. I would suggest wearing a mask when you take them up. If you have dust allergies, it will certainly give you grief. Rugs not only need to be vacuumed on top, but should periodically be rolled up and vacuumed underneath as well, then the wood floor cleaned before putting the rugs back down.
