- Q: Do most people prefer carpet over hardwood/vinyl/linoleum?Carpets collect dust hair mites and all things gross.. and you have to vacuum which costs money.. not to mention hard work and is loud and annoying. Also, many Americans wear shoes in their homes. So why would you want a flooring that collects the dirt on the bottom of your shoes? When has home carpeting become generalized standards for most homes? Anybody know?
- Most homes don't have carpeting at the entrance door where alot of people take their shoes off. Carpeting has a pad underneath it, unless it's like mine where I have underfloor heating in my ground floor living room. Little kids like to play sit on the floor, so carpeting is warmer/softer for them in the winter months. Most bedrooms are carpeted for barefoot warmth. (You can't fall asleep if your feet are ice). Mopping shampooing is work, shampooing a carpet is done less frequent. I'd rather have baby tip over and bonk his head on carpet than on a tiled floor. Full room carpeting became popular about in the 60's. Under floor electric heating is catching on, I have it in my bathrooms built in '99. ele ^ (my delete isn't working)
- Q: We just bought a new rug from IKEA 7ft by 7ft, and its a plush rug...we bought it because our 9 month old son started crawling and his knees were getting tore up from our carpet...The rug we have it awesome, but when he crawls over it, little pieces of fuzz come from it and he balls it up and tries to eat it..and it sheds all over our carpet and is really annoying....it was a pain in the *** to bring home being soo long, i dont want to take it back, is there something i can use to make it not fuzzz off? We vaccum and vaccum and it makes it worse it seems...HELP PLEASE!!!
- Wool rugs need to be vaccuumed twice a week with a really good vaccuum, for 6 months for them to stop shedding! Good Luck!
- Q: Does anyone know anything about Indo Bijar rugs. I bought a 6x9 Indo Bijar rug today for next to nothing and am curious about its value. It has a tag on it from a profesional rug repair shop in Dallas ( the tag just says indo bijar 6x9 clean and replace fringe) It's in great shape and was hoping to resell at our yardsale but not sure about the value. I found two similar rugs on Craigs list, one was $4,000 and the other was for $600.

- I have a suggestion. It has happened with my carpet in the past. All you need to do is, take piece of rag (preferably cotton), immerse it in boiling hot water and dab it on the patch where it is. This should soften both the carpet and the dough. Once this is done, say, in a couple mins or so, take a terrycot towel and brush it in one stroke. This will take off the stuff from the carpet. If this does not work, take a moist cloth (drenched in regular water). Take a semi-hot pressing iron, and slowly and lightly iron the surface of the cloth. This will make the dough stick to the cloth. It is pretty simple and non-time-consuming. Good luck :)

- If it has a rubber backing, then no,the rubber will weaken and you will have a rug with half of the backing gone and a repair bill for your machine. I would suggest if you are going to put it in the machine, go to the Laundromat, they have larger machines and super dryers.

- Q: I need to shampoo my carpets but I want the best results possible. I know that the rug doctor is a commercial rug shampooer but do you think it has the same results as a professional coming in to clean them or would I get the same reults doing it myself?
- I purchased a Bissell steam cleaner a few years ago. It works extremely well. I only use Resolve rug cleaner in it even though the directions say to only use Bissell products. I've used the rug doctor in the past and my cleaner works at least as well.
